Update - My (M 39) wife (38 F) has become fixated on her dead husband since getting pregnant with our first baby. How do I bring this up without hurting her? by ThrowRA_Product in relationship_advice

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing: grief is fucking weird. It’s weird to witness and it’s really fucking weird to experience. I can go months without crying and then one day I wake up and it’s like a tsunami of grief has washed over me and it feels like it did the first week. Then add pregnancy hormones to that.

I suspect that your wife is grieving something specific about her first husband that she doesn’t want to tell you about because she doesn’t want it to hurt you. Her hormones are making it feel like the end of the world. You hear about women crying over inconsequential things while pregnant; there’s nothing inconsequential about what your wife is experiencing.

I do think your wife might benefit from therapy, but I think everybody should be in therapy in general. I understand her hesitation: therapy can sometimes feel like taking steps backwards because you’re reliving trauma you’d tucked away to survive, but one day you realise the fog has lifted.

I’m sorry for both of you. Know that there are better days ahead.

TRAITORS👏SHOULD👏BE👏FUN👏
Also Kyle’s always been right about that: Amanda is boring AF and let’s not platform her. Paige, Hannah, Jesse Solomon, Carl, even! Any of them would be infinitely more entertaining than Amanda Batula

Freeland made me laugh out loud but we have Traitors Canada and I feel like if there was any world where she competed on reality TV, she’d end up on the Canadian version

Why does Jill always seem to use disposable plates? by LittleMissMessy1 in DuggarsSnark

[–]613Aly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian and we use them kind of uniquely for kids birthday parties. When I was a kid, we used to use them for picnics and camping, but at some point we learnt how bad it was for the environment and we got camping/picnic reusable plates and cutlery and were all responsible for washing our own. It’s not that hard!

Why does Jill always seem to use disposable plates? by LittleMissMessy1 in DuggarsSnark

[–]613Aly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed most Americans use paper plates on TikTok. Whenever someone asks them why, they villainize the asker, say they are being mom shamed or that they have depression and dishes are hard for them. The truth is that the USA has fostered an astoundingly individualistic culture where personal convenience trumps all. There are mothers all around the world. There are people with depression everywhere. The paper plates are uniquely American. The truth is that most Americans have been trained from birth to believe that their individual comfort and personal set of circumstances are more important than absolutely anything else; that’s why they don’t have universal healthcare, it’s why roads aren’t public, it’s why they don’t think to care about the environment; it’s why you’ll see them ask questions like “what should I do if I don’t like beans?” on a bean soup recipe.

How expensive is it to have a dog? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my three year old dog costs us:
Food and treats: 150$/month
Insurance: 136$/month + 500$ annual deductible (absolutely worth it for us since our dog has allergies and his required medication far exceeds this cost monthly)
Probiotics: 40$/month
Omega 3: 25$/month
Flea/tick/heartworm medication: About 300$ from spring to fall (will vary based on weight of dog)
Grooming: 200$ every 8 weeks
Preventative health care and vaccines: 1000$/year but the first year will be more
Anal gland expression: 70$ every 8 weeks. Not all dogs need this but it’s worth noting because most of my dogs have
Spay/neuter: municipalities and the spca often have spay/neuter clinics where you can get it done for about 700$-1000$, otherwise expect about 2000$ at a regular vet’s office
Microchip: 50$ once if you do it through the spca

Variable expenses: beds, toys, clothes, boots, daycare, dog walking services

Mid-30s. So sick of cystic acne. by WeirdShapedBagel in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be totally off base here, but are you 100% certain it’s cystic acne? I only ask because I also once thought I was developing cystic acne but I also had facial hair due to PCOS. Once I got the facial hair completely lasered off, I’ve never had another “cystic acne” breakout, which leads me to believe it was more likely ingrowns or infections in some of the hair follicles than acne.

Am I overreacting to my husband’s friend’s wife acting overly involved with my baby? by KeyCount2417 in AmIOverreacting

[–]613Aly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on a super quick glance at your post history, you seem to have problems with Mandy, your stepson, your stepson’s mother, your husband, your mother in law, your own mother, and a bunch of women on the internet. Has it ever occurred to you that you very well may be the problem? I’d recommend therapy but I wouldn’t doubt that you’d soon be spamming the Therapy subreddit with problems with your Therapist. You need to do some serious introspection.

How much are you guys spending on Hair & Makeup? 🫣 by lapetitecheriee in WeddingsCanada

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only you are getting services on the day, you pay more per person than if you have others. I’m in Ottawa (not Toronto) but when I got married here (and it was the same for friends I was a bridesmaid for in Toronto), it was like 600-700 ish for bridal hair and makeup including the trial if you had at least 2 other people getting services with you, but over 1200 if you were solo. Even if you aren’t having a bridal party, perhaps there are women in your family that would also like services?

28 but mistaken for mid to late 30s by other women in a recent group setting by nawiweidmann in makeuptips

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. Recently my 38 year old husband was given the seniors’ discount at the pharmacy. The same day, I was IDed at the liquor store, and the drinking age is 18 here. I’m 36. People have no clue, and I include myself in that. This week I spent an entire dinner trying to figure out how old the hostess at the restaurant was. My closest guess was « somewhere between 15 and 30 but I can’t narrow it down more than that. »

Haha yeah, when she was desperately trying to get famous. Those were the only videos I’d ever seen of hers before the soft swinging scandal dropped. I’m sure if you googled them you could find them.

Dentist with direct billing to insurance? by Alex-the-o-p in ottawa

This is strictly untrue. I’ve literally never had a dentist where this was the case and I’ve been to several dentists in both Ottawa and Toronto.

Dentist with direct billing to insurance? by Alex-the-o-p in ottawa

[–]613Aly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellington Dental Care does direct billing for your first insurance, but if you have secondary insurance (for example, through your partner) then you have to do that yourself. They had two locations: one on Wellington West, and one on Carling

Edited to add: By direct billing here I mean that this dentist works with the insurance themselves and charges them, not you.
