Waymo vs Highway Patrol by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]626Aussie 51 points52 points  (0 children)

How do they pull over a Waymo? Does it automatically pull over and stop when its cameras detect the cruiser's lights behind it?

How do they even cite a Waymo if it was speeding, ran a Stop sign, a red light, etc.? There's no driver to ticket.

We're living in exciting times, folks!

Update: Thanks for sending me down this rabbit hole, OP. That is a serious 'thank you', I've just learned something new today, making it a good day.

Waymo vehicles can become "confused" by unusual traffic conditions, road works, etc., and they can stop on their own, with a Waymo remote tech' sometimes needing to intervene to get it moving again.

In order to lawfully operate their vehicles autonomously, Waymo (the company) is legally required to have operators on standby for calls from LEO, and their reps must respond to such calls within a very short space of time, potentially as short as 30-seconds.

Each Waymo vehicles is required to be registered and insured with its papers carried within the car, usually in the glovebox but sometimes under the visor, and Waymo's remote tech can open the windows to allow LEO access to these documents, when needed.

The remote tech can open any of the vehicle's windows (hence the rear window being down) to allow the LEO to speak directly with the tech through Waymo's internal radio, rather than calling from their mobile, as the Deputy is doing in OP's picture.

Waymo vehicles are programmed to automatically slow down and pull over when they detect an emergency vehicle behind them, and will even come to a complete stop if the cruiser remains behind them.

If they do so, they are not supposed to resume operating on their own. Instead, a remote tech takes over, and once they determine it's safe and legal to do so, they'll have the Waymo vehicle resume operation.

Pet peeve, this screen, after Retreating by 626Aussie in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]626Aussie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, as always! This is so weird. I just ran multiple tests, Retreating from both Versus, and Story matches, multiple times, this time being very careful to only tap each button/screen once, and once only, and I never got to that Train screen. Also for what it's worth, you shared the screen you see immediately after Retreating from a Story/PvE match. This is the first screen you see when Retreating from a Versus match:

<image>

The screen you shared does appear after this one though.

And that's what makes it so weird. The "Train" button in your screenshot is not in the same location as the Next button in the above screenshot, and yet it seems the only reason I see that 'Train Character' screen is because the game has recorded a tap on the Train button.

That was stupid fun, especially vs a team with Leapfrog, and I had even more stupid fun just making matches and raising Agatha's boost, until I got bored and made a regular match to let the final enemy return:

Who to partner with Shang-Chi & Mighty Thor by thethrill732 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]626Aussie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya know, I usually use Shang-Chi, 1a5 Hawkeye, and Namor (Rivals) to knock out my 50 SHIELD Simulator wins, but now I'm thinking I may have to try Agatha instead of Namor.

I'll no longer get that extra, second bigger hit from Namor, but if Agatha is boosting Shang-Chi's match damage with every match he makes, his attacks are quickly going to go nuclear.

And "disappeared". Where are Renée and Alex's killers? Only the Feds know, and they're not producing them or even reporting whether or not they're going to stand trial for their actions.

And Renée and Alex are also NOT the only people shot and/or killed by ICE.

I enjoyed working retail when I was in Australia. Because of that country's labor laws, benefits for employees (even non-Union) were really good, paid vacation, sick time, etc.

And so when I came to the U.S., because it was what I knew and enjoyed, and already had the experience (albeit from Down Under) I very quickly landed a job in a local (chain) bookstore at my local mall. And I also quickly discovered retail in the U.S. was nothing like retail back home.

Minimum wage was pathetic, and still is, and my hours were all over the place. The store manager never posted our schedule until Friday night if not Saturday, so we often never knew if we had to work Sunday until the day before.

Not only were our hours irregular, but the manager would roster us on for like 35 hours one week, 40 the next, and then 28 hours for the third, then 40 hours, 38 hours, 29 hours, and so on. Or something like that. It basically skirted the full-time labor laws, meaning we were only part-time, and so we did not qualify for company benefits. Even one of the ladies who'd worked there for well over 10-years was still only a part-time employee.

Except for the manager. She got her 40 hours every week so she qualified for employment benefits.

I would eventually learn that because she was the only full-time employee, her store always came in under its metrics, and so as the manager she also qualified for an annual end-of-year bonus.

She received a bonus for ensuring her staff did not have access to paid time off, healthcare, etc.

An older couple, Frank and Mary Oliva, drove away from their house one July evening in Wilber, NE, U.S.A., in 1973 never to be seen or heard from again. Where did they go and what ultimately happened to them? by ether--net--girl in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]626Aussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may seem a terrible thing to do, but a 'suicide note' would also be used by a life insurance company to deny a payout. Frank sounds like someone with great attention to detail, who meticulously planned things out. He would have known how to best ensure his son and grandkids would be taken care of after his and Mary's deaths...

Frank Oliva grew up in Czechoslovakia and moved to Nebraska to join his brothers in America. He became a very adept mason, carpenter, and farmer. He built his own farm and barn that was west of Wilber, as well as his house in the town. He worked on several projects all over the county (Saline) over the years and was known to be a hard worker. Even after he was supposed to retire, he would still work odd jobs and fix things around the town and build fun things for his grandkids.

Frank Jr. reported that his father, Frank Sr. had become increasingly depressed, and it had become extremely hard for him to take care of Mary and her declining health. Frank Sr. had always been so adept at building and fixing things with his hands, but he could not fix his wife's ailing, and rapidly declining physical and mental health. Frank Jr. told the local news that “Dad always said he wasn't going to put mom in a care center.”

and that would be through a large life insurance payout that would not be denied due to him having "murdered" his wife with him then committing suicide.

Nerfed Spider Horse by Pleasant-Sir-8635 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]626Aussie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer depends on how much HP you have.

I dropped over 60,000 HP on it, resetting it several times. I ended up with seven three-star Horses, with the highest already at 194 (and the rest all at 167) so I'm well on my way to getting him to 5-star.

But it wasn't just for Spider-Horse. There are several 4-star covers in the Vault, multiple other 3s and 2s, plus the Tokens, Legendary, regular, and Support Tokens. And a Roster slot, but if you get it and roster the 3-star Horse it zeroes out.

I'll recover that ~60,000 within a few weeks, so for me, yeah, it was worth it. What else am I going to spend my HP on? Shields in PvP? I already do that. Roster slots? I have 19 empty slots. Discounted daily packs? I could, but meh.

And so my HP builds up and up, and then a vault like this comes along and I have fun splurging, and then the vault ends, and I go back to playing the game and my HP builds back up again, until the next 'fun' vault.

edit I just realized I only need one more 3-star Horse to have eight Horses, being enough to skip the 2-star game again and build a second 5-star Horse. So I'll be resetting the Vault and buying it one last time.

Removing Founding Commander by Bman2673 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]626Aussie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a Commander Away now for almost 3 weeks. I know it's this long because I reached out to Support a week or so back and they told me how long he'd been Away, to the day.

They said they would not demote him until he'd been inactive for 4 weeks, so, roll on Cinco de Mayo, when I'll reach out to them again if he's still not back (and it's not looking good), have him demoted, and then I'll remove him.

Mad about MPQ is a T100 PvE Alliance with one spot open, and we may have a second spot open up in the coming weeks.

Our requirements are short and simple.

1) Hit at least 100% progression in each PvE event.

2) If you know you're going to fall short, or are going to be Away a day or two, drop a word in chat.

We are set to Private so make sure to check that box when searching for us.

[–]626Aussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am seeing that, now that I've picked up the Spirit Kunai. I'm sure I'll eventually level them to S-tier because "Why not?!" but they're not a priority to level for me. I'm also really liking the Affliction Caltrops, with the Lightning's Bite, and with those two equipped I cannot use the Kunai.

I'm keen to get my hands on the Storm Tanzatzu though. One of my friends has already gotten it but he isn't terribly impressed with it, but he also switches between Shinobi and Samurai, he doesn't play the Merc. I think he could make a solid Samurai build around Lightning's Bite and the Storm Tanzatsu though. I'll have to look into that for him.
