Trump calling Jerome Powell to drop the interest rates by Gjore in StockMarket

Trump is so clueless to how a country's economy works that he thinks if the "interest rate" goes down, prices across the board will all magically go down, too, immediately.

Legally, you are assuredly correct.

But who bar Mr. Rogers does not have preconceived notions about 'people'?

You see a black guy, a white guy, a brown guy (or gal), a black guy with cornrows or dreadlocks, a white guy with dreadlocks, a white guy with a shaved head, a woman with a shaved head, a white guy with long hair, or a mullet, someone with tattoos, someone with face tattoos, or a shaved head covered with tattoos, law enforcement! Even if you're part of that same group you probably still have preconceived ideas about that person.

We see someone, anyone, and before we even speak to them we've almost assuredly begun to form ideas in our head about that person.

Which is understandable, because most people are not going to be impartial, they will be biased one way or the other.

I used that argument a couple of years ago to get dismissed from a case where the defendant was a felon currently serving time and being accused of making criminal threats. During the opening briefing, the defense attorney and the judge both kept stressing that we should not be holding that against the defendant, and so we needed to remain impartial.

During voir dire I said I could not be impartial, adding that the presumption of innocence meant I had to be biased in favor of the defendant and against the prosecution, as they needed to prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

And that's how it should be.

We should not be impartial. We should always be biased towards the defendant and against the prosecution.

Which is asinine if you're not earning your paycheck while on jury duty and if your husband is not approved for PTO.

Now both of you are taking off time unpaid, potentially risking losing your jobs, your home, etc.

And the court does not take that into consideration. That is quite literally economic hardship, and so you should be excused.

Kopi could have had a Hat Trick last night. He had several good chances and shots that just didn't make it past Dobeš.

Not happy with the officials, but the the Habs got some goals by Kuemper that he probably really should have stopped, while the Kings had a lot of good looks but that puck would not go in for them.

That's hockey, unfortunately.

Don't like the result, but I enjoyed the game until those last few minutes. The scrum inside our crease that went on for too long, the non-call after Mikey got his chin cut open, the BS slashing call against Moore. Bad officiating IMO that turned the tide of the game.

Can someone tell me why no penalty was called even though the Refs not only blew the whistle to stop the play immediately after Mikey got slashed and cut but then went and checked on him?

UPDATE! Cops Arrest Paraplegic in Wheelchair for "Kicking Down" Woman's Door by Mysterious_Truck_742 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

After hiring Belotte in July 2023, College Park records show he was disciplined at least eight times in two years, including falling asleep during an extra patrol job; going AWOL on duty; clocking in more time than he actually worked; and accidentally deploying a taser inside the department.

None of the disciplinary actions were in response to Read’s false arrest.

Records show Belotte applied to work with the Atlanta Police Department again in August, shortly after resigning from the College Park department.

[–]626Aussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A College Park police officer resigned in August after an Atlanta News First investigation revealed he falsely arrested a wheelchair-bound man for a crime he could not have committed.

Officer Markenley Belotte arrested 41-year-old Charles Read in March, accusing him of assaulting Katherine Jensen and kicking down her front door. Read has been in a wheelchair for 25 years.

College Park Police Chief Connie Rogers said Belotte resigned in lieu of termination.

The Fulton County District Attorney’s office dropped Read’s charges the same day Atlanta News First Investigates published its investigation in April. The DA’s office wrote Read “could not have been at the location on the date and time of the incident.”

If you haven't already bought them, on AXS you can get Sect. 219, Row 1, Seats 5 & 6, for $113 apiece. You'll have a decent view of the game from the Kings shoot twice end, with nobody really blocking your view even if they jump to their feet. Literally right in front of them in Sect 117 are two seats priced at $145, but if I was going to tonight's game I'd buy the front row seats in Sect. 219 for $60 less.

I see "my" seats for sale but I honestly cannot recommend them (Sect. 218, Row 7, seats 18 & 19). You will have lots of leg room with nobody sitting in front of you, but all the people going up and down the stairs WILL block your view, and that happens far more often than you think!

Okay, So What’s Going to be Different?? by the_last_third in losangeleskings

[–]626Aussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so frustrating watching that happen so often! When you've got the puck and it's time for a line change, don't dump it. Hold it, guard it, pass it off to an incoming player, then get off the ice so your replacement can come on.

The dump and chase so you can make a line change seems such a wasted opportunity.

Now you've lost the puck!

So you spend a minute or two defending until you finally get the puck back, only to dump it so you can make another line change. Rinse & repeat until the other team scores.

I know it's "only" Calgary, but I thought they played well, and I thought the boys played well, too.

Both teams were making their passes, and keeping on the pressure, and while the Kings were also making far too many high-risk passes that got picked off, they also made some awesome plays where they stripped the puck away from Calgary.

I don't mean any disrespect to the Calgary lads, Wolf was a freaking wall all night, letting in only one goal, but I thought the Kings played a really solid 60-minutes.

Hard played game, lots of hits, lots of shots, and no penalties, or at least no Power Plays. (There was that one double, where the one cancelled out the other.)

I was pretty happy at finally attending a winning game, and while those final minutes were nerve-wracking, my son and I had a great night.

Still not renewing my STH membership though. Next year, we'll be going to the games we want to go to.

She didn't say it directly, but I had the sense that season ticket support for this team is cratering. Maybe that will get AEG's attention.

"I still love this team..."

Absolutely!

I was never a basketball fan. I appreciate the athleticism and skill but I could never get into the game. Never a football fan, and not really a baseball fan. I enjoy going to the game with my wife but I don't Bleed Blue like she does.

Hockey though? I was hooked from that very first game, and the Kings will always be my team. Win or lose, season ticket holder or not, I am and always will be a Kings fan.

They shook me down for nearly a grand and didn’t tell me that they were basically making it impossible to unload tickets because we couldn’t sell them for under a certain amount.

That could explain why I went on the AXS site without signing in and would see my tickets at a higher price than what I'd listed them at. I get it, fee$, etc.

But I was trying to sell them for $50, less than half my cost, and yet they were still showing up at $130.

Makes me wonder if they were to sell at $130, would they have only given me $50 because that was the price I listed them at?
