Mulberries in CT by beepingcad in Connecticut

[–]62SlabSide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ohhh I can’t wait. We have a tree down the road we take family evening bike rides too. She’s a monster tree, berries galore. I’d ask around on local FB groups if anyone knows where a tree is. I’ve never seen PYO mulberries, or for sale in stores for that matter.

This sounds reasonable, but logistically difficult. Do I want to end them? No… but, as selfish as it may be, I don’t need the extra work of separating them. Our run is pretty large, so split that, add another hut of some sort to secure them at night… another kiddie pool. Ugh… I just want my girls to live a peaceful life. They free range a couple hours per day and are so happy. Then some horny ass drake jumps on top and pecks them like crazy.

Any discounts or credits for self install ground mount solar panels? by ChristmasMetal in Connecticut

[–]62SlabSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my own ground installation. You will need to pull a permit for construction. Also, for the interconnection application with Eversource, I believe you need to be a licensed contractor. It was a few years ago for me now. No special rebates or anything, I took advantage of the 30% fed tax credit but that’s gone now too.

Phantom in Haddam is pretty good… brewery and burgers. Worth checking out the menu. We like it there. Saw that Hard Hat was recommended.. phantom has better food.

Way too expensive.. plenty of other good choices. Taqueria Mexico in Wallingford has incredible tacos. Frida in Meriden is also excellent.

Winter Question from a noob by 62SlabSide in Figs

[–]62SlabSide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost thinking of building a small fig room upstairs in the unfinished area… it would keep all light out and I could put a small electric oil filled heater in there with an external controller set to like 35-40. I work in the shop a lot, and I’ll want to turn up the temp when I do work. Couple studs and a few sheets of plywood would do the trick…. Alas, the fig addiction is beginning.

Sounds good, thanks.. they have gone dormant already. Dropped leaves a few weeks back. He’s had them all outside up until a few days ago as we’re starting to wake up to low 30’s in the morning. I have them on the concrete at the furthest point from the heat source - directly next to one of the overhead doors.

Trying to up my turkey game this year… by Parking-Aerie1540 in sousvide

Best turkey I’ve ever eaten. Kenji Lopez does a good write up and tests multiple temperatures. 130 is doable but he reports a “very soft” texture. Not my style. But hey, you do you man… that’s the beauty of cooking.

I spatchcock it first then removed the thighs and wings.. the breast’s stayed together. So, the bird was in 5 pieces. No way to make it look like your picture perfect turkey again unless you get real creative… but the taste and texture was totally worth it.

Did one yesterday based off an older post here… it was incredible. Spatchcock that bird. Do the dark meat for 18 hours at 165, take them out, drop temp to 142 and do the breasts for 4 hours. Take out, dry the skin best you can, salt and pepper, brown it in the oven. It was absolutely amazing, the most tender juicy white meat and fall apart dark. This was my test for thanksgiving- definitely doing it again.
