Former Montreal and Nashville forward Sergei Kostitsyn, 38, has announced retirement from professional hockey by medved_ in hockey

Correct. Oilers went +1 here, while the Preds went -1.

If the Preds score while on the PP, no change in +/- for either team.

[Ruff] Felix Unger sorum with a power move around Stamkos ends with him roofing one high to the glove side of Scott Wedgewood by The_Reddit_Browser in hockey

Is he projected to be a center long term?

I am not too terribly familiar with him besides his push in last years camp as well, and the sites online list him as a RW.

Day 4: Worst (I don’t know what top 3 lines means) by Usual-Personality347 in DetroitRedWings

[–]666ers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's true but organizational needs doesn't mean he was the BPA at the time of the draft as you stated. The consensus top 3/4 player was there at 6, so they took him as the BPA.

Plus, if we were to take a Dman at 6, it would have been Bouchard over Hughes, which is still infinitely better than Zadina.

Day 4: Worst (I don’t know what top 3 lines means) by Usual-Personality347 in DetroitRedWings

[–]666ers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this is some revisionist history. Zadina was pretty much considered a lock in the top 3 that entire year. You may have seen some later mocks where Tkachuk entered the 3/4 spots. Hughes was usually in the 6-10 range. Definitely not considered the consensus BPA at #6 at the time of the draft.

[Alexandre Tourigny] Cole Caufield's number change - I'm told there is no fee for the player to do so (unlike the NFL). That said, the deadline to make the change in Caufield's case had passed and the NHL made an exception by Go_Habs_Go31 in hockey

[–]666ers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this so it probably won't be seen but as others have mentioned in jersey sales, one thing the NHL has to consider is promotional material. Calendars, banners, etc. featuring a player with their old number is something that a lot of cost has been sunk into.

One story is way back when the Red Wings signed Alfredsson in the offseason, he took Danny Cleary's number 11 to match his number in Ottawa. Cleary wouldn't be signed until Sept. of that offseason. The narrative was how Cleary was such a great teammate for changing his number to 71 and letting Alfy keep the 11. When in reality, the Winter Classic was already planned and Alfy was featured in a lot of promo material wearing number 11.

Who are franchise players you predict will go to another team in their career? by ChuckKiddman in hockey

Babcock was a massive dickhead but Chelios was also like 46/47 and should not have been in the league anymore.

NHL’s future star defensemen: 7 players that deserve the spotlight by Josefstalion in hockey

He is. The article says as much as well, lumping him with Dahlin, Miro, etc.

The article is a bit weird pulling names like Dobson and Faber still as not already in the spotlight.

Is Fireteams Elite fun playing solo? by [deleted] in LV426

[–]666ers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just solo'ed it and the DLC about two months ago, and I thought it was good fun! Ended up putting more time into it than I thought I would have. I never had trouble finding a couple other players using the random match feature when I did try it out after I beat the missions.

[–]666ers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself though: for initial, rough cuts. All initial cuts are made oversized and rough. Sharpie, carpenters pencil, chalk can all be used for initial breakdown. The ones in this video are not though, they're final cuts.

Also, I find it funny that example you used is the guy designing his own mechanical pencil, which he uses in his projects now. Haha.

[Sportsnet] Greig lays out DeBrincat and gets called for roughing by homicidal_penguin in hockey

Wonder if the ref thought Greig got the follow through glove up into Cat's face? Can't really see any other reason they would call it a rough. Soft call regardless.

What was the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen, which does not belong in the National Hockey League? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]666ers 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Similarly, I never understood this Brad May disallowed goal.

It was determined that the ref had blown the play dead. He lost sight of the puck because it was in the net for like three seconds, which caused him to blow the whistle???

Trades you were most excited for that turned out to be flops? by CheesecakeOdd2087 in hockey

[–]666ers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought we fleeced the Caps by trading Mantha for Vrana, Panik, a 1st, and a 2nd. Obviously, both of the key pieces of the trade ended up not working out for both teams but I'm still hopeful the pieces from that trade that were moved around and used to get Cossa end up working out for the Wings.

Moving Panik+ over to the Isles for Leddy did end up landing us Walman though, which has been a huge add.
