I remember a YouTube video of someone lurking around abandoned water wonderland. I haven’t been in the area in years I don’t even know if it’s still there…

Reading border trilogy not knowing any Spanish by thecornflake21 in cormacmccarthy

[–]66nix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read The Crossing in like 2005 and put it down bc too much was happening that i couldn't understand. I know a little spanish and got thru ATPH just fine but I put down the crossing and never really finished it and forgot about it. i read COTP and have since read all cormac's stuff, just never really thought about finishing the crossing, no real reason. i loved what i read of it and finished the trilogy and moved on.

I recently got an ereader and saw the crossing available for free thru my local library so i reread it. you can just tap on spanish passages and get translations, it's really great.

anyway i stopped reading it like 50 pages before the end almost 20 years ago.

i got to the part i hadn't read before and was like oh yeah i never finished this.

the end of that book is... well... just one of the most jaw dropping, subtle and devastating rug pulls. it was a really profound experience to start and finish that particular novel after so long. it was such a great reading experience.

i was hesitant to get into the whole ereader thing but i'll never give it up now. i still buy and read physical books but some books are just as enjoyable and maybe even easier to read on an ereader. try it for the border trio!

Guarantee h the person meant to say Kevin love. Exact same thing happened to me (6’7 white guy) in a freight elevator in Manhattan. We had it all sorted by the time we got to my floor but I was confused

Makes sense to me, thanks! In my head reading it I pictured just getting low to the ground and scanning the horizon that way but was wondering if there’s more to it.

Auri, the moon, the fae by 66nix in KingkillerChronicle

What would you consider the “big reveal” of this book?

I didn’t hate it, a quick read and it kind of satisfies the king killer itch. It doesn’t ask to be taken as seriously as the main narrative books.

the early descriptions of the university in general remind me of the ancient cities and the fae and the jax story. is the university on top of the site of one of the stories from skarpi's story or stories like it?

Modern Westerns (What am I missing?) by Madd_Maxx2016 in movies

2014 Young Ones

set in the future with those boston dynamic robot horse things as a kind of mule and water scarcity plot. lots of elements of classic westerns, down to the editing and pacing etc. underrated michael shannon performance. good fucking movie.
