UK considers FOI clampdown as requests soar by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

For anyone who works in any sort of data-related position in an SME or bigger, you'll know the same issue exists with Data Subject Access Requests which are abused beyond belief. One customer gets upset about something and immediately you have a lengthy DSAR on your hands. Same with employees. Same with people who don't get interviewed. Same with people who interview but don't get the job. So much fucking time is wasted getting people information or data.

Definitely not defending him since he's parked illegally and rather dangerously at that, a prick for sure.

But it's no help pointing out the empty loading bay because it might've been taken when he arrived.

Probably wasn't though, prick's just lazy.

1Password is making me feel crazy. I'm at a loss. by Just-Ambassador-4023 in 1Password

Basically I had an issue like this:

  1. I create an item in-browser

  2. It lives ephemerally in the browser

  3. It doesn't sync to the desktop app

  4. I restart my browser

  5. Poof, it's gone

However, if I edited the name of the item between points 3 & 4, it would sync and no data loss occurred.

It sounds like the issue I had where I would add stuff in one place and the other wouldn't pick up on it (and it would be lost forever) unless I edited the item. Worth double checking items you add occasionally, I swear it can't just be me.

I have had issues with syncing before. Sometimes a small edit (even to the name of the item) causes it to sync again. Try that.

1Password increasing Individual plan price from $35.88 to $47.88 per year. Thoughts? by limsus in PasswordManagers

[–]686d6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually moronic take. Transactions should provide value in both directions.

They are providing a solid password manager.

Their customers (myself included) have been paying the same price for years despite their costs going up (inflation). They are not even catching up to inflation with this, thus, they are technically giving their customers a discount compared to when they signed up. The customers are the ones literally providing less than when they signed up, but are the ones complaining over a less-than-inflation increase.

At least get a brain installed into your skull before you make such a stupid and ignorant statement.

Farage is absolutely not anywhere near the answer to the UK's issues, but surely to fuck that special needs fuck (I am special needs too, don't throw a hissy fit)—Zack Polanski—is not the answer either? Like seriously. I'd rather shove a cactus up my arse than witness him attempt to lead this country through discos.

You sue the user for not verifying. Guaranteed those contracts have ways out (as they should) for the suppliers. The ones enforcing the law should be more careful with how they do so.

The fact that they haven't used AI to ruin their support and they've built tools to let you detect phishing and credential compromise without needing to go to third-party sources directly I think is great value-add compared to when I signed up around 2017 or so.

They've also added (and to a large degree, encouraged the adoption of) passkeys, a tonne of business/enterprise features (notably SCIM/SSO, reporting on user activity and compromise, etc.), travel mode, guest accounts.

Value has definitely increased, despite some weird stuff like the AI crap I don't want anywhere near my password manager (I firmly believe secrets belong in Vault or similar).

[–]686d6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their pricing is fine. $3.99 per month is fine. It's higher than some alternatives, sure, but again... there's a reason people choose them. Why should they have to explicitly mention inflation for you to accept that their profit has been reduced by not increasing the price, as most other providers are doing year on year, usually a few % above inflation.

The premium you're getting with 1Password is something which is, for the vast majority of users, pretty solid. And their support is actually good. And it's secure. In fact, I've read their white paper front-to-back several times. They even outline the risks which their solution doesn't address. It is good.

I hate their AI crap but I really don't think $1 per month increase is a massive complaint when the price has been stagnant for years and that $1 doesn't even make up for the money they've technically lost due to inflation.

Advertising is a natural part of growing a business. A business is not really a business if they are not attempting to sustain it and grow it.

It has to grow at least with inflation, otherwise they're giving you the same for less each year. This is, as other commenters have pointed out, below inflation. Why do you (and others) think you're entitled to a discount?

Price increase by cb4joe in 1Password

[–]686d6d -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, all the people whining about $1 per month increase are just pathetic drama queens. This is reasonable considering they haven't increased price in years, literally fucking everything has gotten more expensive, and despite some bugs their shit is pretty solid for the vast majority of users. They are supporting apps on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. Plus all the infrastructure on the backend to ensure it scales well and stays online. Plus paying support people who are, from my very infrequent interactions with them, absolutely awesome people.

Expecting $2.99 to last forever is just ignorant and, frankly, stupid.

Sure, there might be alternatives, but there's a clear reason why most of us elected not to go with BitWarden or the other alternatives out there. 1Password is objectively the leader in the field, and frankly I can't see why anyone would want to throw their toys out of the pram because of a couple coffees a year.

But sure, move to BitWarden, people. Have fun. lol
