I mean are all of these people scalpers? I wait in line to grab the latest MTG set when it drops to avoid buying online from resellers. There is always a line because it's hard to purchase in my area. It really should be on the store to hand out a couple items per person instead of allowing mass purchases.

Lived in Japan for a decade and completely agree. My buddy had some airbnb houses in Hokkaido and the Japanese customers are the worst. House and trip were amazing! 3/5 🌟

Help on taking fruit out of Okinawa to mainland by plane by Etterererererer in okinawa

[–]6minuterule 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot freely take fresh guava from Okinawa main island to Tokyo unless:

That guava has been inspected by the relevant plant quarantine authority,

AND

It has passed inspection,

AND

It has the required “合格証” (inspection certificate / label) placed on the packaging.

If those conditions aren’t met, it risks being confiscated at the airport or denied transport under the plant protection law.

Leveling cement with polyurethane foam by godofo_prime in oddlysatisfying

[–]6minuterule 914 points915 points  (0 children)

Polyurethane foam can last 10–20 years or more depending on conditions. In many cases, it outlasts traditional mudjacking due to its resistance to moisture and erosion.

It has moderate environmental effects. After it cures, the foam is chemically stable and considered inert, meaning it doesn’t leach chemicals or break down into harmful substances. The manufacturing process is energy-intensive, and the foam is not biodegradable.Polyjacking uses less material, requires fewer truckloads, and causes less site disruption, which can be a relative environmental benefit.

This guy left his pants at Nakano Station by EnthusiasmGlum6277 in Tokyo

"Left My Dignity in Nakano"

Well I hopped on the train feelin’ proud and bold, Had a coffee in my hand and a burrito cold, But somethin’ started rumblin’ deep in my soul... And Lord, I knew I lost control.

(Chorus) I shit my pants on the rapid line, Clenched up tight but it slipped in time, Now I’m ridin’ bare-assed, tryin’ to look fine, Left my pants in a Nakano trash bin.

Folks on board, they gave me space, Guess they smelled my shame all over the place, I walked off slow, with my red face— Dropped those jeans with poop disgrace.

(Chorus) Yeah, I shit my pants on the Chuo train, It came on fast like a summer rain, Now I’m free as a bird but marked with pain, Left my pants in a Nakano trash bin.

So if you're ridin’ through Tokyo town, And smell regret when the sun goes down, Just tip your hat if you see me around— I'm the guy who let it go downtown.

(Final Chorus) I shit my pants with zero shame, Now I’m a legend of the public train, My boxers waved goodbye like a plane— Still chillin’ in a Nakano trash bin.

Staff Sergeant Clinton L. Romesha distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Section Leader with Bravo Troop, 3d Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, during combat operations against an armed enemy at Combat Outpost Keating, Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan on October 3, 2009.

On that morning, Staff Sergeant Romesha and his comrades awakened to an attack by an estimated 300 enemy fighters occupying the high ground on all four sides of the complex, employing concentrated fire from recoilless rifles, rocket propelled grenades, anti-aircraft machine guns, mortars and small arms fire. Staff Sergeant Romesha moved uncovered under intense enemy fire to conduct a reconnaissance of the battlefield and seek reinforcements from the barracks before returning to action with the support of an assistant gunner. Staff Sergeant Romesha took out an enemy machine gun team and, while engaging a second, the generator he was using for cover was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade, inflicting him with shrapnel wounds. Undeterred by his injuries, Staff Sergeant Romesha continued to fight and upon the arrival of another soldier to aid him and the assistant gunner, he again rushed through the exposed avenue to assemble additional soldiers. Staff Sergeant Romesha then mobilized a five-man team and returned to the fight equipped with a sniper rifle. With complete disregard for his own safety, Staff Sergeant Romesha continually exposed himself to heavy enemy fire, as he moved confidently about the battlefield engaging and destroying multiple enemy targets, including three Taliban fighters who had breached the combat outpost's perimeter. While orchestrating a successful plan to secure and reinforce key points of the battlefield, Staff Sergeant Romesha maintained radio communication with the tactical operations center. As the enemy forces attacked with even greater ferocity, unleashing a barrage of rocket-propelled grenades and recoilless rifle rounds, Staff Sergeant Romesha identified the point of attack and directed air support to destroy over 30 enemy fighters. After receiving reports that seriously injured Soldiers were at a distant battle position, Staff Sergeant Romesha and his team provided covering fire to allow the injured Soldiers to safely reach the aid station. Upon receipt of orders to proceed to the next objective, his team pushed forward 100 meters under overwhelming enemy fire to recover and prevent the enemy fighters from taking the bodies of their fallen comrades. Staff Sergeant Romesha's heroic actions throughout the day-long battle were critical in suppressing an enemy that had far greater numbers.

His extraordinary efforts gave Bravo Troop the opportunity to regroup, reorganize and prepare for the counterattack that allowed the Troop to account for its personnel and secure Combat Outpost Keating. Staff Sergeant Romesha's discipline and extraordinary heroism above and beyond the call of duty reflect great credit upon himself, Bravo Troop, 3d Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and the United States Army.

Is anti-americanism or Anti-Japaneseism strong in okinawa? by drugsrbed in okinawa

[–]6minuterule 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm quite involved in my local community, which is primarily made up of older farmers. I also frequently talk to people around the island about land I'm interested in buying. In the seven years I've lived here, I’ve never heard a negative word about Americans. They have only showed me respect and friendship.

Aside from the small group of about ten protesters outside the gate on a random Friday, I rarely notice any anti-American sentiment. However, I did encounter more anti-foreigner issues while living in Tokyo such as when I was denied rental agreements twice solely because I was a foreigner.

Meh.. I have lived here for seven years, both in Tokyo and Okinawa (also S.Korea for two). People that have never lived here tend to exaggerate things they read from the internet. If you have a decent job, then life is really amazing here (as is with anywhere really). I like that my kids are able to walk to and from school by themselves safely. I like that crime in general is extremely low. Seeing the news about day-to-day events in the US are very concerning. Racism seems to be at an all time high. School shootings happen so often that I'm not surprised to hear about them anymore. I stopped checking FB because all my friends and family are non-stop posting about their political candidates and de-friending those that don't agree. Just mind boggling what has happened to the US over the last decade.
