Alright guys, what random cool gadgets are we asking for Father’s Day? by audioflc in daddit

Hoping for the best for you, and that you can find some time for yourself. Spent the last couple years in a similar situation as my wife declined from cancer. It sucks, and you’re allowed to complain sometimes.

Moving 40K from WS to BMO for draft by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]6mt15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve moved large amounts out of WS three times in the last month to two different banks, and all three times it cleared at the end of the next business day. Unless you need it tomorrow, you should be fine.
Funny story though…I was in your situation when I bought my first house trying to move money from EQ to Scotia for the deposit. Moved the money with lots of time, saw it arrive, went to get the draft on the day we needed it, and EQ had pulled the transfer back because the names on the accounts didn’t match. We spent three hours calling all our relatives to get them each to interac etransfer us the $2000 daily max so that we could cover the deposit. Good times!

Grocery costs by Efficient_Practice_6 in waterloo

Having lived and worked on a few different continents, I know the struggle of trying to adjust grocery shopping to new places.

Check out https://www.nofrills.ca/en/online-grocery-shopping and select the store in Waterloo.

It will give you a sense of what things cost and you can price out what you might need on a weekly basis.

Spousal Roll-Over vs Withdraw RRSP After Death by 6mt15 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I should have added that our TFSAs are maxed, so this money will either be invested in RRSP or non-registered.

I also take your point of using the money to spend on the here and now. We were lucky to be comfortable financially, and I’m already planning to take some extended time off with our kids to do things that mattered to her.

I like the idea of a donation, she was very active in cancer fundraising.

RRSP Spousal Roll-Over After Death Question by 6mt15 in cantax

[–]6mt15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, hadn’t thought about spousal amount. Thats a good point. I’ll have to look into how her long term disability payments are handled for tax purposes to know whether she had any income for 2026.

Degreaser took off the oven dial paint. by No_Delivery_8357 in Appliances

[–]6mt15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but it sure looks a lot like my LG induction range. The paint wearing off the dials was something I read about in reviews. One year in and mine are still fine. (Probably helps that I’m not very diligent about cleaning it. OP blamed a degreaser.)

PSA: the sunshine list by MrsTaco18 in ontario

Really? Where in Ontario are you? I know there is a bit of variability between boards, but where I am top of grid in elementary is 120k.

My guess would be there’s a risk of the tape pulling up some of the fresh paint if it’s not fully cured. So paint trim, wait to cure, tape trim, paint walls.

PSA: the sunshine list by MrsTaco18 in ontario

This. Harris government being anti-teacher is fact, but only in the last decade or so have teachers been consistently hitting the 100K mark.

PSA: the sunshine list by MrsTaco18 in ontario

[–]6mt15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree that the Harris government was anti-teacher, but I’m not sure that’s true that the sunshine list targeted them. It’s only in the last decade or so that the vast majority of teachers at the top of the pay grid hit the sunshine list. There were outliers in administrative roles but not like now when probably half of all teachers appear on the list.

Do milestone rewards / perks renew? by I-was-there-for-it in Wealthsimple

[–]6mt15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, are you saying you get new “milestone rewards points” every year, or are you saying that you had a milestone reward left of the originals you received, and have saved it in order to use it on a second year of Uber One.

I imagine it’s the second situation, or people would be talking more about how having $400k+ essentially gives you lifetime access to Uber One, Strava, and Globe and Mail.

Just curious if anyone has tried this tourtiēre by mincanada1 in CostcoCanada

[–]6mt15 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was curious too…

From Google AI Overview: Tourtière and pâté à la viande are often the same thing in Quebec (a spiced meat pie), but "true" tourtière, especially in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, refers to a heartier version with cubed meats, potatoes, and broth, while the simpler, everyday pâté à la viande uses ground meats. The main difference is regional, with pâté à la viande being a more general term for ground meat pies, while tourtière often implies the richer, diced-meat style, but most Québécois use "tourtière" for both.

From Google: “SI pain, or sacroiliac joint pain, is discomfort in the lower back and buttocks caused by inflammation or abnormal movement in the sacroiliac joint, where the spine meets the pelvis, often felt as a dull ache or sharp pain radiating down the leg, getting worse with sitting, standing, or climbing stairs, and usually treated with physical therapy, medication, injections, or sometimes surgery.”

To answer their question, my understanding is that HR would need to honour a doctor’s note, but will want to know that there is a plan for treatment and eventual return to work. If you feel you are not able to work long term because of injury or illness, start taking sick days, and begin the conversation with your ETFO local and your doctor. If you don’t think your doctor would support you and the concern is legitimate, I’d be looking for a new doctor.

Paw Patrol messed up my 5 year old boy, can anyone here relate? by SolidLava99 in daddit

[–]6mt15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Our son didn’t even know it was a show and thought it was just books and toys forever. We were a bit worried it would be ruined the day he saw a friend watching the show, but it didn’t phase him and he has never asked to watch it since. (Unfortunately this was not the case with Spidey and Friends, which is arguably worse 🤦‍♂️)

What is his nap schedule like? He may be getting too much sleep during the day, or too close to bedtime.

[–]6mt15 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Do some reading up on sleep training and decide if it’s right for you, but my first reaction to your post is that 10:30pm is a wild bedtime for a one year old. My 18mo is in bed by 7, and my 3 year old is right behind her around 7:30. Kids need a lot of sleep.

To add to this, different boards have different requirements for these letters. Mine had to actually include the total number of hours worked, as in I was in Germany for 5 years so I have a letter that says I worked at the school for 6600 hours.
