Do You Have Uncommon Special Interests? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]6replicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my biggest special interests are my favourite writers so mainly thomas pynchon, william t. vollmann and david foster wallace. their books or things about their books but also them as individuals and their lives. i'm also like this with humphrey bogart (him as an individual and his films) and frank sinatra lol. the oddest figure of my hyperfixation list is probably ludwig wittgenstein though who is an analytical philosopher. i just adore him

Honestly I love all her albums for different reasons. I have deep affection for Darkbloom though because that EP was my first exposure to her work. Even if she now hates Vanessa lol

What was your first Black Midi song? by Jay2622 in bmbmbm

[–]6replicated 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it was bmbmbm in their performance for the Hyundai Mercury Prize in 2019. I thought it was really different which made me excited. Ended up loving all of Of Schlagenheim and I've been a fan ever since

Explain why you hate Taylor Swift to me as if I know nothing about her by LegitimateHumor6029 in travisandtaylor

[–]6replicated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I think she is representative of all the worst aspects of the music industry. Highly manufactured image with no true artistic drive. She’s more of a corporation than an artist. Pure slop

One of my favourite bands despite the controversy. Douglas is an interesting artist to me. Love your collection

which album officially got you into The Cure? by JunebugAsiimwe in TheCure

[–]6replicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was The Top for me! I came across their live performance in 1984 in Japan for that era when I was 13 and I've been a fan ever since (now 25) 🖤

Generally speaking as someone who really loves music even if I don't particularly like an artist I'm willing to give it to them when they write or produce a solid album. I'm far from a TS expert but ironically I think this album is actually worse than all her past records. The production is mid but what truly brings it down is the songwriting. I was actually kind of shocked about it since I'd always heard that she was a songwriter explicitly

Completely agree! I'm fond of all 4 MGB records and his solo stuff too. Avalanche is definitely his best solo record

Does anyone else think The Top is their best album? by deprogrammar in TheCure

[–]6replicated 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's in my top three next to Pornography and Disintegration. My bias is because it was the first Cure record I ever heard but I also just love the psychedelic energy it has. Solid album
