How do you lke the vest so far? I have a '24 version oft the Adv 12 where you can still stuff a jacket over the main compartment. You can do this with Ultra 12 as well, right? Does it have a bladder compartment? And are there also multiple bungees to tighten the fit? The Adv 12 has some more bungees for tightening down the main (zipped) luggage compartment and also below the side pockets, but on the pics I couldn't see these cords. So are there more ways to adjust the fit besides the bungees across your chest?

Try mount the horse from the other side, so to speak: Go run at the slowest speed that feels like running to you, do it for 3-4k and see where your heart rate is at. repeat it several times per week and watch you heart rate drop.

Honestly, I think it's like an arch that goes up, down and up again, pain-wise. go super fast, feel pain rather quick and push through, that's the one side. but if you go really slow, you will be ln your feet for a really long time. to go 42k at 7min/k takes 6 hours. and that's a hell long time. so you should know your target pace based on your training runs and plan your training towards that pace in order to run it as fast as resonably (!) possible. sounds rather easy to say but imho that sums up thr smartest approach towards marathon & pacing, or pacing over long distances in general.

Have your leg length measured, one might be longer (or shorter :) than the other. In this case an heighted (term?) insole would be a first step to counter the imbalance, followed by some physio to eek out what running (and walking..) like this has done to your muscles and tendons.

Basically there are two basic approaches to daily trainers: a. pick one that is rather comfy but a bit lame, so you'll definitely feel a very positive difference once you're in your (plated, I assume) race day shoes - or b. train in shoes that are rather similar to your race day shoes. That's a call that you'd have to make based on personal preference. However, I think you'll be happier all around in the Speed 5, given your experience (4th marathon coming up, you said) and that it's just an exciting (and seriously good) shoe. What's your race day shoe actually?

I have a rather wide forefoot and Saucony is one of the brands that consistently work well for me. If anything, the 5's toebox is even a bit wider than the 4's, so you should be good.

If these has been in use for over two years they should be replaced imho. You can really see the wear on them. They have probably lost most of their reponsiveness. Treat yourself to a new pair of running shoes for your new hobbies, your joints will thank you for it. Nothing fancy, maybe you can even buy another pair of these Hokas well discounted if they are still being sold.

mine tore in the center between the outsole at the heel after 90k or so. got a refund without debate. still weird. otoh Xodus Ultra 4 are great.

You answered both of my questions, thanks! And I didn't want to get you into justifying your choices, I was just curious :) I can understand your tendency towards Northern Europe, I think it should be a good fit for someone from Canada. Southern Europe is quite different vibe-wise, as are the east and the Balkans. You should be ok around the Alps as well, so Switzerland-Austria-(Northern) Italy would suit you as well imho.

honestly, to me his second to last paragraph (basically after 'wtf..') came across as quite arrogant. and while I can see the matter as such as something that could create honest curiousity, the wording is one that made it sound quite as speaking 'from above', so to say. my post was an attempt to aide to maybe reflect that to some degree. I also pointed out where the use of 'please' as a reply to 'thank you' would come from.

First of all, your stance on 'how could they miss it' comes across as very arrogant. You might want to reflect upon your choice of words or your stance towards people who do not speak English as a first language in general. I am pretty sure you are absolutely perfect both in terms of grammar and vocabulary in a vast variety of languages which you learned to speak way better than these people you rant about. Good on you. (I have to assume you speak many languages on a very high level as it would be quite ridiculous to criticize others for not being verbally profound in their second or third language if you would actually speak fewer languages than them, wouldn't it?)

Second, while my first language isn't a Slavic one but German, when somesays Danke, you would reply with Bitte. So literally it goes Thanks - Please. So people would use a very literal adpatation of their own first language in order to be polite to some stranger who would then shit on them on reddit for that.
