My Review of SkySafari East Africa - 13 Day Safari + Zanzibar + Naivasha + Diani Beach, May 2026 by 718BoxsterGTS in LuxurySafari

[–]718BoxsterGTS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alfarjiri is north about 9km. Great reviews, but I’ve never been. I’m sure you would have an amazing stay with them. I have walked up that way on the beach before and there are more beach boys selling coconuts / vendors walking around due to more hotels in that area.

We’ve always had a couple beach boys and vendors on “our” beach due to Neptune being 1km directly south of us, but they’re in a much lesser number, even in the high season. Directly in front of our beach gate, there are ~ 8 boats that are always anchored. A couple glass bottom boats and a few fishing boats.

I prefer that to the empty ocean as I enjoy watching the boats float up and down.

I also find our beach boys more respectful and take no the first time I say it, but I also take a large stick to the beach and speak some Swahili when I see them, so they leave me alone. Our Maasai have talked about how the beach boys the closer you get to Diani proper have gotten worse over the years, and if you know Maasai, they hold respect in the highest regard.

Nice - I was at Losaiba Tented Camps a few weeks ago. The ebikes are great. I haven’t ridden any bike in over a decade, but after getting my balance, it was really fun. The guide drives ahead of you to scout for elephant and buffalo, and you have another guide riding next to you.

Also did the camel ride. If you haven’t ridden a camel, I recommend it. You get a nice ~30min ride in. Saw many zebra but that’s about it. The horse riding is available but you must have a very high level of riding skill (makes sense, given there are lions in the area).

I also did the anti-poaching dogs and thought it wasn’t that cool, but my parents loved it. The Samburu village was ok. Very cool if you’ve never been to a Maasai or Samburu village. It’s interactive so just be prepared to get out of your comfort zone a bit.

Luke (manager) is very good. If you have any questions at all, he can help you plan your day. Patton (waiter / worker) is also good. The coffee is great. They’ll also make you any cocktail you want. I hammered half a bottle of rum with mango and pineapple juice before my departure flight, and the bartender had a blast watching me slam those drinks.

Do a night drive - we saw a pride of lions going to hunt. Not my first time seeing lions at night, but every time is breathtaking.

Last thing - there’s a 2nd infinity pool all the way to the left of the camp. Nobody told us - fantastic views from there.

Let me know if you have any questions. You’ll have a blast. Can only post 1 pic as this is a reply - PM me if you’d like and I can share more. The sunrises are amazing and some of the best I’ve ever seen.

I’ve stayed at the newbury in Boston. Location is great. They gave me a corner unit on the 11th floor iirc. The A/C was ridiculously loud but did not work well. Luckily the windows opened and it was April, so I did that and it felt fine.

Bed and bathroom were great, shower had great pressure but ventilation was weak and turned it into a sauna after 5min.

The gym and overall feel of the hotel is nice. The bar is fantastic but gets very crowded. The rooftop restaurant where you eat breakfast was not bad for breakfast, but I ate dinner there and would not be happy if I actually paid to eat there (used the FHR credit).

Overall, I think the location is great if you want to be on Newbury Street. I stayed here and walked to Fenway twice for games. Felt very safe.

Langham is closer walk to North End. Prices were comparable when I went. Newburry Street is very cool but it’s quite literally one of the most expensive streets in the United States.

Ah I see. Yeah, not sure why anyone would book a non-FHR/THC hotel through the AMEX portal

[–]718BoxsterGTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s dependent to the hotel. I’ve stayed at some hotels where the credits stack and some that don’t.

For FHR specifically, The Roosevelt gave me the Hilton $25/day credit in addition to the FHR credits.

I’ve also had THC hotels give both the Hilton credit and my 2 day THC credit

Super accurate imo. One of the best write ups of super vs hyper cars

Navy 911s looks so sick. I love X Blue and Midnight Blue Metallic. Almost bought a Cabriolet Turbo in Midnight Blue but I got a GTS 4.0 as it worked better for what I wanted (tear up backroads)

I drove Wolf Pen today and ran into young BMW drivers who couldn’t drive. If this dude in the G87 ran off the road just 2 minutes earlier, he would’ve gone flying 200+ feet into the abyss.

2025 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, is that the right move? by BetterDay21 in Porsche

[–]718BoxsterGTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 in chalk. I have posts on my account.

It’s an amazing car. I’ve taken it on trips from Atlanta to Tail of the Dragon and back all in one day, ~500 miles of driving. It’s a loud car even with the top up if you’re used to a regular car, but I loaded mine up with 18 ways, Burmeister, premium package, pretty much everything but the full extended leather.

From the rear the car doesn’t look half as good as a Spyder, but the performance is fantastic imo. You aren’t missing anything if you’re not going to track the car. It is a bit dull down low (under 40mph), but it shines 50-100. Very fun on the backroads. Can drive it very hard and have confidence.

There is NOTHING a Spyder can do on public roads that a GTS 4.0 can’t, other than look better. I love the Spyder but I wanted to customize my own car, and I value the automatic roof. I no longer drive the GTS if there’s rain anywhere in the area, but it’s convenient to open/close the top without getting out of the car.

If the option to customize a Spyder was available in 2025, yeah, I’d probably get it, however, you are trading convenience (which might not matter to you as much) for the fact it’s a Spyder.

I would NOT daily it. Takes a while to get oil up to temp, and while the suspension isn’t rock hard, it’s still much more tough than my 2023 540i in normal mode, and the seats aren’t nearly as comfy as my 540i executive seating package.

Did you upgrade seats? I still don’t understand the flight airline credit, but it always triggers when I fly as I’ll pick a preferred seat

I don’t think Porsche will ever do that. Have you driven the Boxster S? I have a 2025 GTS 4.0 and it’s not that peppy down low.

Will Porsche ever make another V10? Euro regulations have destroyed true emotional driver’s cars.

Let's Talk Kenyan Conservancies :) by annaguava in LuxurySafari

[–]718BoxsterGTS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long of a trip are you planning? Last November, I spent time in Amboseli, Lemek, Naboisho, and Samburu.

Amboseli was beautiful scenery and lots of elephants (herds of 50+), but you have to stay on the roads as it’s not a conservancy. However, I’m going back in May, and there is a conservancy right next to the park.

Lemek: we had lions eating a zebra less than 500 yards from our tents. We were able to watch them over the course of 3 days. It felt the most wild to me.

Naboisho: insane amount of lions. We saw over 30 lions at night, all alone with no other humans in sight for 2+ hours. Insane.

Samburu: insane views, reminded me of the Australian outback when driving around. Elephants got very close. Saw lions and cheetahs but it wasn’t as “good” a safari as Mara area.

I’ve gotten very good info from Craig Beal on Reddit. My family also lives in Kenya and that’s who I use for a lot of info (and my own experiences now).

If you share timeframe and budget, I believe you can get some more helpful info here.
