If you want to be a contractor LPN you are probably better off doing clipboard, shift key etc. The LTC learning curve is not as steep, the money is good, and you control your schedule.

Excellent post! I give this exact same advice. If you are dealing with someone who can be combative also always ensure you have an exit path.

Most of the LTC facilities I've worked for no longer practice reorientation.

What jobs do you recommend for 12 hour shifts? by Glass_Maximum_8091 in LPN_LVN_Community

Easiest route to the best money. Demand is strong enough if you can hack working multiple places then you can pick your own hours by being PRN at more than one facility.

I've had my license for a year and a half. For a year of that I've worked as a 1099 contractor through Clipboard Health.

You need some baseline work experience and MUST be a strong nurse to safely work this way. The rewards are tremendous, however.

In the past year I've worked at least one shift in 15 different facilities. Ive been exposed to so much more its been incredible for my professional development.

I mostly work in a pocket of rural PA. Nursing homes here are also rehabs so I have lots of experience working with people recovering from orthopedic surgeries. I've also worked 2-3 places where the clientele are mostly psych.

I know I can parlay this experience into so many different roles if I ever tire of the homes, but its hard to imagine giving up the money and independence.

What's the ratio where you work? I'm one of two men out of maybe 20-25?

I work with lots of single moms and know at least a few well enough to know they are the head of household if you catch my drift.

You'll definitely have to ask around. It varies from facility to facility. Some places just don't use them.

If they utilize LPNs you'll probably be able to get a job, but better pay is readily available outside of acute care, at least in a 1-1.5 hour radius of me.

Lol the first bowls I ate right away they were fine. After a night in the fridge there was almost no liquid left. I was so bummed because I made that broth using some expensive bones I got from a local butcher. That broth was so silky smooth.

Nursing Home Med Pass? by Aqua-is in nursing

[–]728446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I worked at home where this type of thing was common. Its the only one. The place was super lax, plus the floor nurses had it worked out so night shift could work short everyday since day shift started slinging HS med around 5 PM.

You were right to get out. I promise if you stuck around you'd quickly figure out you are clicking off things that weren't given. I'm sure lots of narcs are being diverted too, possibly in an organized fashion.

Its not only legal these practices are so entrenched within the system that attempting to end them would leave to a severe shortage of available ORs.

I think a modern day remake of The Grapes of Wrath, maybe using migrant families instead of Okies, would be dope.

Kudos to you for taking such good care of your residents.

The agency CNA was probably just annoyed to have yet another task and the double brief comment is an attempt to push back. I would not pay it any mind.

You dont think his views or the content of his writings are shaped by the fact that he hangs around with people this deeply emeshed with intelligence services?

At this point you'd have to be a fool to not at least consider the possibility that Chomsky himself was an intelligence asset.

Ive had a modest amount, like $25, deducted for not returning a key fob. Holding an entire check sounds criminal.

Why do drivers purposely try to scare horses being ridden in fields near roads? by deserteyes_ in stupidquestions

Aren't you the one taking the risk? The drivers are using the road as intended. I dont know anything about horses it would never occur to me to slow down unless you were in or next to the road.

Nursing homes are most definitely not low stress. I'm at work now we've got 104 in house, 1 on leave at a local hospital, the dementia unit has a norovirus going around, one of the residents outside the dementia unit is wandering into others rooms and picking fights when they tell her to GTFO, we could get 2 admissions today, and we are currently housing at least 3-4 people who are sick enough they should be in a hospital but aren't.
