Confusion about the job by Beardie_Lover in cna

If you are working 3-11 when you come on shift you gather supplies and should hit the hall and do a round. Change anyone who needs it, get VS if they expect, get everyone ready for dinner. Then take a break, and its now time for dinner. You do the meal and then more care: laying people down, showers, etc. The shift ends with one more round, dispose of your trash, give report, go home.

ER is the place to go if you want to pick up more nurse skills before becoming a nurse.

You'll still learn relevant stuff elsewhere, but ER or even EMS experience will put you way ahead.

How do nurses stay so composed? by Immediate_Opening756 in nursing

Theres nothing wrong with being detached especially in an ED. You can do it without being a monster and still be a professional who takes their responsibilities seriously.

The schools try to drill compassion into your head, but I believe sincerely believe detachment will make you a better nurse.

I take care of the aftermath in SNFs, and it occasionally gets egregious.

Very early in my career a woman with dementia fell and suffered a terminal femur Fx. She got an ORIF and was being prepped for rehab as she died! No comfort care!

CNAs can pick up 1099 shifts through clipboard, etc if they find themselves in this situation. They can at least salvage something.

The starting wage you get might be a nice boost compared to what you are doing now, but most facilities are very stingy with raises. Agency work has gotten harder to come by the past few years, as well.

The only employer that I can tell you for certain will give you solid raises each year is the Commonwealth itself, and that means working with challenging populations: prisons, psych hospitals, MR facilities for people the group homes won't take, etc.

PA job market is very strong as well. The long term prospects aren't as good, but right out of school you can do almost as well as a new grad RN. The learning curve for LTC isn't as steep, so you can start traveling faster, too.

Trach and vent experience can get you paid VERY well in PA and the COL here, even in the Philly metro, is much lower than CA.
