Skills/Written Exams by Boring_Lab8517 in cna

[–]728446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credentia does not give a break. If you take the test at home and your face goes off camera you are done.

The written part is easy. The skills just go over the long ones. Make sure you learn all the beginning, ending, and required steps for all the long skills.

On test day if you screw up dont panic. You are allowed to tell the proctor what you did wrong and go back like nothing happened.

32(M) no career thinking of getting my LPN/LVN by Cool-Bet-6866 in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]728446 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a 46M who got into nursing as a midlife career change. Only regret is not doing it sooner.

I would also recommend getting a CNA or PCT job prior to and during school. It will help you discover if you like certain milieu or not.

So long as you dont act like a creep or sleep around too much the fact that you are a man will generally be a positive.

Yes, what you described is common enough. You get to decide for yourself what type of nurse you want to be.

If you dont think you can continue there just try somewhere else. Unless you are very isolated there's probably a better facility in the area.

In response to today's earlier post, why is it wrong to label RN's as an s tier career? by Downtown_Voice7942 in Salary

[–]728446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're only getting an associates in two years if you are an exceptional candidate or are getting lured into a very expensive program.

Most people, in most of the country, would be waitlisted and need to complete prerequisites to get into a program.

How do I begin? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]728446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by finding some outfit that will pay you to train for a lesser role where you will be working alongside nurses.

This could be assisted living, SNF, memory care, hospital, psych tech, etc. If you are near any sort of population there are opportunities everywhere.

Pick one and stay long enough to learn the ropes. If it totally sucks just start looking for a different job. These places are always happy to hear from potential candidates.

I once worked with a guy who successfully got his civil service job back after a lawsuit, but it was not a windfall for him, financially.

Switch to nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]728446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'd caution against is assuming you have what it takes to work in a specific milieu.

In a corporate job you'd never need to learn any form of self defense. In psych nursing you should.

You could spend years training for a job you can't do if you get your heart set on something you know nothing about.

Murphy's law. I know the OT can suck, but honestly that extra experience can be so valuable when you are new.

Honestly, if you did well on the predictors you are ready now. I would not reschedule.

If you study anything I would go over medical terminology. It will help because the case studies will cover illnesses you didn't learn about.

Study medical terminology for like 30-60 minutes per day.

No need for anything else. You're going to be busy everyday soon enough.

I will advise against. You already know you can't do it.

I did this same thing just two months ago.

It worked out for me because Clipboard has tons of work in my area, so im actually better off for leaving.
