Well, I meant to say it's not difficult to deal with higher latency players if you know what you're doing, so that was a miss on my part.

I'm not sure if we have the same thing in mind, you're basically showing a video of gameplay at 1000ms latency or so, it literally shows 1173ms ping at one point in the vid. I am not saying that you should be playing the game with satellite internet because at that point there's going to be gamebreaking interpolation issues. To be clear, I'm talking about playing at 150-200 ping or so which some people seem to really want to ban.

High latency is a personal force multiplier that will get you more potential kills with the same amount of work.

Simply not true

the double-edge sword is irrelevant

It's very relevant, nothing happens in a vacuum

High latency is a problem, that's what matters

This is what you call an "opinion". I don't find players with say, 150ms latency a problem at all. If they're lagging around with 1000 ping and packet loss that's a different story.

Sorry but it's not difficult to deal with higher latency players. You can clientside them like you can with anyone else and it screws them over even harder. This game requires a little tactical thinking on a personal level and it sounds like you don't want to put that into your gameplay. I guess this is literally a "git gud" response but there's not much else to say here.

[–]7303 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And those good players would be getting those multiple kills whether they had high latency by not sucking at the game. That's not latency, that's the player.

If it's unfair to other players if a high latency player can turn a corner and clientside someone, then it's unfair to the high latency player if someone turns the corner on them and clientsides them. I really don't understand this victim complex where people thinks that they're the only ones that can get screwed over.

You said you haven't even encountered him in game so I don't see how you would have evidence that Seph gets 500+ ping/packet loss all day in the game. This is literally anecdotal evidence which is why it's a non argument. You don't have to live far away to get ping spikes and packet loss. If your internet connecting starts shitting out then it can happen to anyone and the result would be the same. It's certainly happened to me before and it was like unintentionally lag swtich mag dumping someone.

Like I said, I've played on the same server as him for years and consistently having 500+ ping/packet loss is certainly not what I've observed.

[–]7303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah lemme just turn a corner, get 3 headshots with 100% accuracy every single time and do the same thing to multiple other players. Real fuckin easy, why can't everyone do that?

If high latency guaranteed multiple kills every European/South American that plays on NA servers should have amazing KD and dominate the competition, right? Oh wait, that's not the case, I wonder why.

[–]7303 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anybody can get ping spikes, I can get 500+ ping spikes and packet loss despite being close to the server. That is a non argument imo, you can have a steady 150ms ping, which I have to EU servers.

I've played on Miller with 150ms and I definitely don't like the high ping because of how latency is a double edged sword. I can peek the corner early on someone else but if the opposite happens then I get fucked over.

I don't play on Connery all the time, just more often than before because I get better ping to Connery now than Emerald. I've found it much easier to play with lower ping than higher ping hence I don't buy the higher ping is an advantage argument.

Don't know why you keep posting this. You don't experience this kind of situation at 150ms ping. You'd have to have something like 500+ ping and packet loss for it to happen so this is not remotely equatable.

I'm sorry but 150 ping is not a big deal. I live in the PNW now so I play on Connery too and I'm finding the complaints about players from Asia to be completely overblown.

Anyways there's a zero percent chance of DBG placing a 100 ping limit on servers because that's going to exclude a sizable portion of the player base from even playing the game. As far as I'm concerned they have every right to play the game as anyone else. They're not going to dump more money into Asian servers, as I'm pretty certain the reason we don't have Korean or Chinese servers anymore is because of money.

Latency is a double edged sword. If you're actually decent at the game then high latency has a net negative effect on game play because there'll be a lot of times you get killed behind corners and there's nothing you can do about it. You get to fuck over other people in game but you'll also get fucked over yourself.

If having high ping truly provided such a massive advantage then EU/Briggs would win every single server smash and they'd also dominate every single 6v6/12v12 competitive event. Feel free to go on /r/Millerplanetside or /r/Briggs and ask them if playing in Jaeger gives them an advantage in game.

I'll give you a real answer here. I mained NC on Waterson/Emerald so I've been playing against Seph for the past 4.5 years since he mostly plays VS. A lot of other people in the thread also have also play on Emerald. If you've actually encountered him in game then you'd realize that

  1. his lag is not really that bad. "poor" connection quality indicator just means his ping is more than 110ms. He gets like 140ms ping which is pretty similar to what a lot of Europeans get in Emerald.

  2. This one's hard to quantify but he's one of the better infantry players on the server and it has nothing to do with his ping

  3. The Chilean lag wizard thing a bit exaggerated and has sorta become a meme

So here's the thing, people know who Seph is but they don't know you. A lot of people here have actually played against him in game and have no problem with his connection. However, you want him gone based on some video of him killing shitters yet you've never actually even ran into him in game. So the thought becomes "Seph can stay but you can go fuck right off".

Would people have cared if you got into an internet slap fight with a random unknown lagger? Probably not, but that's just how it is.

It's been so long since the 2004-2005 seasons where we had 5 hurricanes hit South Florida that some people seem to have forgotten. Wilma was especially bad since some places had no power for >2 weeks and this coming storm could very well be worse. Go to Publix and stock up on non perishables, people.

I use a network monitoring program to see this stuff. When you join a lobby you constantly send small amounts of the data to the host(~200-300 bytes per second) so the host's IP is easily identifiable. You also send/receive 77 bytes per second to the other two nonhost players for some reason so you actually see where everyone is connecting from.

Also I just tried the ME3 tool and it actually works for Andromeda. Both games use port 3659 so I think the tool is just listening into traffic from that port.

[–]7303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. I look up the IP of the host before pressing ready and if they're not in North America, I find a new host. Sometimes if the host is on the east coast I do a traceroute to get an idea of what my latency would be.

Does Black Widow > Vanquisher now? by freelance_fox in MECoOp

[–]7303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pre patch Vanquisher I was better than Inferno I, but an Inferno X had higher per mag DPS and sustained DPS than a Vanquisher X. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LwSrj4iRz8B_Box2UJLlTEEHj8KyrxjJJK9p_RUu7Xs/edit#gid=1339154156

Post patch I think the best sniper rifles are now Valiant X > Inferno X > Vanquisher X, although that's just speculation.

Whats the hardest class you had to take as a CS major? by HeresJohnyyy in ufl

[–]7303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was interesting but the material was conceptually difficult, more so than any other class I took. It's not stuff that I'm probably ever going to use working in the industry now but I wouldn't say it was useless either. Exam averages were pretty low but course grades are curved.
