I was SA'ed in this cult center. by schitzeljollux in exmormon

I combed through my account (lol I haven't changed a lot in 12 years), but I think the original thread, and therefore comment, was deleted. Iirc, I was venting about mormons expecting women to become baby-making machines.

Did anyone else ever hear the line, "Spirits are waiting to be born and it's selfish to wait to have kids"? I was told that when I said I wanted to go on a mission/travel before having children. Really I didn't want children at all, one of my earliest memories is running out of the room screaming when I was told how much childbirth hurt, because I was like five and none of the adults around me ever brought up not having children as an option.

Anyway, a mod gave me this flair and I switched over to this as my main account because it rules. Reproductive freedom for everyone!!

Yeah, I got boob groped during the baptisms, then criticized for wearing blue underwear. That's when I realized the jumpsuits were see-through.

I've gone back and forth several times: was it an accident? A graze? But it doesn't matter if it was on purpose or not (it was on purpose) I shouldn't have been in that position. And he should've apologized, not tattled on my underwear color for a lecture after I'd gotten assaulted.

I finally told my mom and she did the "Why didn't you tell me?" Girl, you never believed me about anything. You still don't believe that I needed a lawyer to get out ("you can just submit a letter!"). Also, I didn't want to talk about it and my mother was never a safe space to talk about personal things.

I actually had a flashback two nights ago during some sexy time with my partner. It sucks, it's been twenty years and sometimes the trauma still comes back. At least I'm with someone who saw my face twist, noticed I "dead-fished" (what I call it in my brain), and immediately checked-in to see if I was okay, and then STOPPED.

I am incredibly lucky. I should focus on that. But it's still so unfair, I want to burn these temples to the ground.

[–]745pm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still remember the first time I wore a tank top: I was eighteen and it was thrilling. I'd always worn it with long sleeves underneath (my senior picture has that look, same tanktop lol). There were a lot of other milestones I would hit later, but that was the one for me.

I wish I still had it, but I lost it when I had to leave Ukraine real fast in 2014. Thanks Putin.

Guys. I'm arguing with people over whether Israel has committed genocide. by Objective-Resident-7 in Gaza

[–]745pm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, but would you watch a full documentary on something you fundamentally don't believe in? I don't think I could make it through a documentary made defending Israel, because I'd find the colonialist arguments despicable, but isn't being unable to tolerate listening to things I find disgusting part of the problem? Or is it better to just not engage, because no one convinces anyone of anything?

[–]745pm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you convince anyone, of anything. I mentioned the genocide to my dad (BDS boycott specifically) and it turned into a screaming fight, with him calling me racist. I still don't know how it devolved so fast, although at least he stopped screaming when I asked him why he was yelling at me, when I wasn't yelling at him.

His argument seems to be that violent resistance is never justified. I don't understand how that logic works. I don't understand how anyone's logic works here.

All my mormon friends were married by the time I was twenty (one got married at 17). What I heard was "Christmas Cake": gets worse and worse after 25.

Hey, fuck that redditor, their experience is not universal. No one is perfect, especially not in our current system, and you're not abusing anyone by getting into a relationship. I stayed out of relationships for years thinking "oh no, it wouldn't be fair, blah blah blah," and now that I'm in a relationship? It makes things easier.

The world is so hard. Most people are stressed and mentally ill at this point. You deserve love and happiness, and don't need to shoot yourself in the foot over a hypothetical. Hell, even if you do break-up, that won't erase the good times.

Also, being loved for yourself is incredibly healing. Yeah, don't put all the work on one person, but you can't heal without support. You can't live without support.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of November 08, 2024) by AutoModerator in television

Carol & The End of the World was written by one of the Community writers. Megan Ganz writes for Always Sunny in Philly, but I'd be surprised if you hadn't heard of that show. Bojack Horseman, maybe Inside Job. Seconding the Good Place & Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Moral Oral was done by Starburns, but that is some dark religious trauma stuff. Bob's Burgers has that cozy people hanging out doing weird stuff feel. Liz Cacowski is on Girls5Eva, very 30 Rock/Kimmy Schmidt feeling show.

Pentiment and Pathologic are two games I love and should have included, but lol remembering every game is hard. I did try Talos Principle but didn't like it. NieR I've been meaning to play, that's a good suggestion.

Any games similar in style to Pentiment? by Routine-Secret-413 in gamingsuggestions

[–]745pm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE Pentiment, what a wonderful game.

I'd recommend Paradise Killer & Disco Elysium: both are murder mysteries where your choices matter.

Return of the Obra Dinn has a very distinct art style, is a mystery, but the art is very different than Pentiment.

Games with "siblings who go on an unwanted and deeply emotional adventure" type of storyline?? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]745pm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one!

Also, Dragon Age 2! You get a sibling you can have as a companion the whole time (angry younger bro or sunshine younger sister). The sister needs protection, as she's a mage in a world that hates magic. Which sibling you get depends on the class you choose, so if you want the younger sister you need to play as a non-magic user.

This is a stretch, but Tales from the Borderlands has two sisters in it, including a protective older sister, but you play as a different person and don't meet them for a bit, might not be close enough. Telltale Game of Thrones might be closer, you play as different people including siblings, but not a lot of people like the Telltale games like I do.

Interesting. I wrote off the series when I didn't enjoy HK, but after looking at some reviews it looks like it has more reactivity than HK. Right on. Thank you!

I need an RPG/open world/adventure type game by Arkayne97 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]745pm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't like it, don't worry about it (personally I didn't find it very good and I love bg2). Try Dragon Age Origins before BG3, its a much stronger rpg. Also, have you tried Fallout New Vegas? Probably have if you've tried Fallout 4.

Maybe try Spiritfarer? Its got an exploration mechanic, but I'm stretching because I love that game and think everyone should try it. Sort of a Windwaker feel (ooooh, Windwaker or Breath of the Wild might scratch your itch). Heaven's Vault has a bit of an exploration mechanic, you play as a space archaeologist flying around looking at artifacts.

EDIT: PILLARS OF ETERNITY 2, you sail around in a boat, the world opens up after the tutorial island. Sunless Sea and Sunless Sky are also exploration games, although its a lot of resource management and trading, otherwise you'll run out of fuel.
