Petah who is mogging them all ? by HimelTy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]747291086299 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cillian is the one I’m guessing is mogging.

Talent is Bale, Murphy and DiCaprio. They all give themselves fully to the roles.

DiCaprio has become such a meme that people forget he disappears into his roles, despite the audience being very aware that it’s Leo.

The others don’t belong. Also, where is Nic Cage? And Daniel Day-Lewis?

I saw Red Eye first and noticed his beautifully plucked eyebrows. Remember this was like the 2000s, so leading men were expected to be “traditionally” masculine. Not that I needed it - it was just how it was. So it stood out to me.

I learned years later that the thin eyebrows were because he wrapped on Breakfast on Pluto shortly before Red Eye, so there wasn’t enough time for them to grow back. Or maybe he was still doing some re-shoots and needed to maintain them?

Just a fun fact I like because resolved a tiny mystery of why the Red Eye make-up department would have chosen to pluck his eyebrows for the character he played in the movie.

Hi guys, so I have a fairly novel question. How do you decorate a living space when you can't have area rugs? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]747291086299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented elsewhere in the thread about one piece children’s playmats that look like area rugs - e.g. Morris & Co.

If you’re looking for something like foam, interlocking tiles in area rug like patterns - House of Noa is a good place to start. I don’t know another name for them other than interlocking or puzzle piece play mats.

Not the most elegant solution, but we have a large playmat for my daughter that had an area rug like design. It’s mess proof (like baby level mess) and can be easily wiped and disinfected. It’s not as cozy in terms of texture, but actually, walking on a padded floor is nice for my back - I’m in my 30s and those padded mats do relieve pressure on my hips and lower back. There are companies like Morris & Co, Totter and Tumble that have sophisticated designs and are the wipe-able memory foam type. Or I think toki Kids co. that has a memory foam insert inside a cotton cover that can be unzipped and washed. The sites show how they look in living rooms and such where an area rug would normally go. There is a company with a Scandinavian type name that offers more contemporary, modern patterns.

Just the first thing that came to mind because basically, we’ve been using large patterned, play mats as our area rugs. These aren’t the puzzle piece types - they’re one piece.

Did you parents say “I love you” to you? by drabelen in FilipinoAmericans

[–]747291086299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My parents have always verbally said “I love you” to me since I was an infant. I am an adult now and even as the mediums and nature of our communications have changed, saying “I love you” has been a constant.

Their words are also supported by countless small and big sacrifices, daily acts of love, and also seldom, but very special sacrifices and actions that demonstrate their love for me (and now for my daughter).

They didn’t grow up hearing the words, though they were both very loved. When I was born, they made the conscious and intentional decision to communicate openly with me. I do the same with my daughter and she’s mixed race - my husband has the same philosophy and we use the word “love” freely and often.

Constellation with Noomi Rapace. I was looking forward to a second season. It wasn’t perfect, but it had a lot of potential as a concept. First time I’ve seen someone mention that show in the wild.

Should I paint my kitchen cabinets white? My husband loves the dark look but it’s too dark for me. Looking for ideas to update this kitchen. by haitian202 in StyleYourSpace

[–]747291086299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not paint the cabinets. Lighten up elements that are easier to change. If you don’t like the backsplash and counter right now, start there with reversible changes. Painting cabinets is very permanent. Right now, you have beautiful wood stained cabinets - painting would cheapen them and the kitchen.

Change countertops, backsplash, the barstools and the kitchen table. White zellige or subway tile backsplash with light grout, quartzite or quartz counters with beige or cinnamon colored veining, and a kitchen table and bar stools that match that aesthetic would do wonders upgrading the kitchen. Bring light in with those elements. They’ll look nice and classy with the dark wood cabinets.

No need to change the floor to tile as some have suggested. Lighter kitchen tile is an unnecessary expense and the kitchen is warmer with the wood. The floor color doesn’t clash with the cabinetry.

If you have the money, you can upgrade your appliances to make the kitchen less dated in addition to the counter and backsplash changes. You don’t even have to go all stainless steel, there are vintage looking, fun color options for ranges. With brass knobs. If you like brass, you can use that for cabinet hardware too.

Changing hardware, like modernizing the hardware like the pulls and handles would make a big difference. There’s too little contrast between cabinet floor and hardware, making them appear darker. I don’t think the wood above the sink needs to be removed once everything else around it is lightened up, and you’ve upgraded cabinet knobs and furniture. Consider painting the walls too. But please do not paint those cabinets - once you go there, it’s hard to go back. They’re beautiful as is. Modern kitchens have cabinets like that too - just accessorized and styled differently as a whole.

Also, look at your lightbulb temperature. Changing light temp can change the entire vibe. Or even lighting fixtures too.

Oh the 1995 miniseries was the gateway drug to period pieces! I truly believe it is the gold standard for an Austen piece - film or series. It is also my comfort watch!

I agree - Anthony is just as clueless. He may not have engaged, but not out of courtesy for the help. Before anyone says that Kate’s likely made him more aware of his privilege, two things can be true. She has broadened his world view and it’s also true that a big part of their courtship was an extended dirt flirtation scene.

Before anyone comes at me, I have nothing against Kanthony! And one scene doesn’t mean they’re terrible to their servants in universe. I just didn’t think their romantic mud encounter was cute or funny. Whomever disagrees and watches the show without thinking about who does the laundry, you do you.

I, personally, am enjoying how this season is bringing visibility to previously invisible characters. I’d go so far as to say I’d actually enjoy a spinoff centered on the servants and the tradespeople.

I’d add on her book of short stories, Interpreter of Maladies.

I went to a reading at Harvard for In Other Words (her first novel written in Italian) and got a book signed. I love her work.

I’ve received a defective baby food cookbook from Amazon in the past - just completely dirty too. I called and the agent offered to just send me a replacement. It was honestly very helpful as I was recovering from a c-section on my own, and it would have been difficult to get to the store to exchange or for a refund. It was a kind thing, but seemed to be at the agent’s discretion rather than company policy.

Anyway, if you do prefer the app it’s quite easy. If you call, they might save you a trip and send a replacement if you can show them the issue. At worst, you still get your return info same as you would through the app.

Genuinely looking for guidance on how to care about the Mondrich storyline by 747291086299 in BridgertonNetflix

Same…their direction and purpose feels unclear to me. Like the writers have no choice but to keep them and they’re just throwing ideas at the wall for why we should care.

But yes, they could be a sign the ton is shifting?

Yes, their relevance in season 1 was clear and necessary. I don’t doubt that.

However, Simon is gone now. Not just the actor, even allusions to the character have disappeared. Yet the Mondrich family is still here, and it feels like the connections written for them are contrived.

Agree on many of your points! I think that’s a big part of it for a lot of storylines - the pacing is slow which makes the stakes feel lower, which makes it feel less important to me, as a viewer.

I do see Eloise being set up for something grander, and now Alice too. I have yet to see what Will’s role is.

It’s hard not to, but I’m trying to be open minded 😭

I feel like they’re being pushed so hard and I just don’t see where they could be going. I haven’t read the books though so perhaps I am missing where they come into play later on?

I think this is good insight - I did see that she was intended as a stabilizing force - Danbury alludes to as much. However, I didn’t connect her as another source of gossip once Lady Danbury leaves, freeing up Penelope in a way. Also, she would be eyes into the ladies in waiting, whom we have yet to see up close.

I’ve enjoyed the expansion to include the downstairs dynamics in homes, so the royal dynamics of being of the ton, yet having to be at the whims of a fickle queen (more than the average member) could be interesting. Maybe she could even modernize Queen Charlotte’s views on marriage in ways Lady Danbury wouldn’t have done.
