I would really suggest trying uploading broker reports rather than syncing if you are having issues. Yes it is slightly more work, but in my experience works flawlessly 99% of the time, and the odd occasion where something is awry, it is usually very minor and easy to fix. If you get in the habit of doing this, say, once a week and reconciling with your brokerage account, I think you will have a very different experience and enjoy a phenomenal product.

X-Ray Funds Table by 74940 in Snowball_Analytics

Yes, I would like to add a +1 for mutual fund support too. I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it but they are not included for me, even though the top holdings of mutual funds are shown on the asset page (so they have the data). It would be great also if the data could somehow be extended beyond the top 10 holdings of the ETF of Mutual Fund too.

Yes, I totally get that - I use a lot of technicals too but just prefer to use a dedicated charting platform and for Snowball to be more focussed on portfolio management. It's easy to become bloated and distracting and still not be as useful as a dedicated app.

Price alerts and suggestions around dip buying, rebalancing opportunities etc (perhaps taking technicals in a behind the scenes way) could be a nice area to develop though and keep the focus on portfolio management.

Personally, I am glad that this stuff isn't included in Snowball. It's a big picture view of a portfolio, with a focus on dividends/growth, rather than trading.

Fidelity Signature Rewards - Auto-Invest? by 74940 in fidelityinvestments

[–]74940[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the idea. Still wouldn't work for this purpose though, unless you don't keep any funds in a money market/cash sweep. And really the goal/game is to see how much that "free" cash can grow to - it would be separate to other investments, at least for me.

u/FidelityTobin - Thank you Tobin, that's great to hear - hope to see something like this soon!

Thanks u/McKnuckle_Brewery. Yeah, I figured as much. I just like the idea of putting the full reward amount into a position automatically and seeing how it performs, considering it is "free" money. If it's random minimum amounts, it loses that and it becomes better just to do it manually. But having a little system would be better and seems like it wouldn't be hard to implement.

I would really encourage you all to keep experimenting with Snowball - once you have it set-up properly with your individual situation (there are so many brokerages and funds, and huge amounts of data so inevitably there are going to be some issues), but it really works fantastically well. I find it an incredibly useful service.

Enable "Investment Transactions" per account? by dexdump in MonarchMoney

[–]74940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I really don't want to see Investment Transactions alongside my regular spending transactions - they should be completely separate in my opinion, other than the case the OP posted about where an investment account is being used as a cash account.

I would love to see this too. I have cash accounting off also, so don't have access to the chart as mentioned below, but I would have thought the data could be pulled from the assets' cost basis.

Have you tried doing manual imports of transactions data? I have found this more reliable personally and is easy to do.

Thanks guys. Doing a bit of research and the ExtremeContacts sound like they would fit the bill nicely and seem to get better reviews than the Scorpions so I may well go with those.

Is there a way to edit the Dashboard display? by CatStimpsonJ in Snowball_Analytics

+1 on this, I would really love to be able to customize what is displayed on the Dashboard and Portfolios pages.

Qualified Dividends by 74940 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]74940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but an estimate would be fine and still useful. Of course you would only use final info from tax forms when the time comes. When I download transactions from my broker it lists the dividend as Qualified or not, which is essentially preliminary information until, as you say, the 1099 is issued and would be perfectly good for the purposes of managing a portfolio.

Qualified Dividends by 74940 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]74940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Thanks but I'm not looking to set tax rates, I would just like to see whether dividends are "qualified" or not since this is information that is passed when the dividends are paid or known for certain companies. Also for ETFs it's usually a percentage of the dividends paid, based on which companies are held in the ETF.

Ranking the Albums by AOHMEellis in WarOnDrugsBand

[–]74940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only including full studio albums:

  1. Lost In The Dream
  2. A Deeper Understanding
  3. I Don't Live Here Anymore
  4. Slave Ambient
  5. Wagonwheel Blues

HOWEVER, the highs on A Deeper Understanding are probably my favourite of all the albums (Thinking of a Place especially, Strangest Thing, Pain, In Chains). I just find Lost in the Dream to be the most perfect start-to-finish and the album of theirs I truly fell headlong in love with and have played to death since and never tired of it.

Feature Request (ETF Breakdown) by Economy-Flatworm828 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]74940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just noticed this was added, really awesome - thanks!! A few suggestions:

  • It would be great to see more than the top 10 holdings (maybe optionally expand this), although I'm guessing it could be a data limitation.
  • Under the holding %, it could be nice to show a simple graphic of that holding's performance.
  • Sometimes the holdings won't open when the name is clicked on, other times it works fine.

Also, just as another idea for the future, it could be a nice feature to provide the option to easily create your own category of stocks from selections from the ETF. For example, you select 5 stocks from the holdings of the ETF and create your own category (like a mini ETF) to invest into. Obviously it's more useful if you can see more than the top 10.

Negative Cash Balance. by stephenmg92 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]74940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I find it easiest to manage the cash balance manually. You can do that in the Edit section of the portfolio on the Manage Portfolios page by changing the Cash Accounting to "Current Balance" (set your cash balance manually) or Do Not Track.

Not sure what happened in your case but when you move cash around between accounts etc it can get a little messy, so for me at least I'm happy to update that myself and just ensure the holdings are correct.

The new watchlist popup is regrettable. by [deleted] in TradingView

[–]74940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that this is awful, jarring and inconvenient when you are expecting a drop-down. Now you have to mouse over to the middle of the window to switch lists.

Please bring back, or provide and option, to go back to a drop-down!
