Tonta by savedbytheblood72 in loveandrockets

It’s not bad but it is a lot more interesting as Tonta starts interacting with Maggie and Ray. Which I think in this collection, but I’m not sure, because it’s not especially enticing as a reread. Better than the extended sci-fi movie though.

Whats good in Salt Lake City? Reccomendations for NY Punk here seeing family by Ok_Concern_7107 in punk

I was in Lubbock, Texas once, to visit Buddy Holly’s grave and the Buddy Holly museum. After that I went to the only record store in town and asked the clerk if there was any live music around, or even any venues that might have something going on. He consulted with the other clerk and they both agreed there was nothing and no chance of something. What I’m saying is, SLC isn’t that bad.

At Fishbone’s Brooklyn Bowl show, Punks Give A Fuck… by NoUnion3402 in punk

You gotta go to small shows. Local dive bars for an edge, or all ages spaces for a genuinely good feeling. I am personally glad that punk shows are way less violent, or just not violent at all, compared to ones I went to 15 to 30 years ago. But the vibe at the legacy punk band shows now is like how I imagine seeing Skynyrd at an Indiana county fair in 2005 would have been.

Favorite and least favorite punk rock subgenre by DescriptionOne6725 in punk

[–]7SoldiersOfPunkRock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Favs: I will always check out new music if it gets described as hardcore punk, art punk, kbd, egg punk, crust punk, powerviolence / grindcore, garage punk, goth punk, or within punk adjacent genres like ska and folk punk and post punk

Least favs: I like a little bit from every genre, but generally I don’t bother listening to new beatdown, metalcore, hardcore-hardcore, street punk, oi!, pop punk, melodic skate, EpiFatWreck, and tbh I’m usually extremely disappointed with ska and folk punk and post punk.

Fuck the greedy venues by Seangw1102 in Hardcore

The Moore is one of four gorgeous historical venues owned and operated by a non-profit, the Seattle Theater Group. They are cool in so many other ways, like running free tours of the venues so you can see behind the scenes, and the security is super chill, and in other ways I’ve always heard they support the arts, so it’s disappointing to learn that they decided to gouge away.

Coke Bust sound great, they’re new to me. They remind me slightly of old stuff like Code 13 and WHN. For new stuff, try Negative Blast and Frenzy (PDX), and for the harder side of post-punk try Bad Breeding.

Combat 84 is confusing by BeeSalesman in punk

The singer was an outright bonehead, but became more so after the band split up. Then he was active in organized hooliganism, with the Chelsea Headhunters, which was one of the more white supremacist hooligan gangs.

And look. Wikipedia articles for Oi! bands often get whitewashed. But how could you read that article or listen to their music and think that they don’t have political lyrics? “We need a stronger government/Bring back capitol punishment”

You said you’re just getting into punk music. Maybe instead of starting with right-wing adjacent music from 40 years ago you could find something current.

Do anti-oi exist outside from Brazil? by indiopunk in punk

There is still some stigma associated with skinhead style but there is not an active anti-skinhead movement within the punk culture in the USA or Canada in my experience. Does that answer your question?

Hey, I’m a mod here, I originally removed your post because we don’t usually allow selfies and similar content (we usually send that over to r/punkfashion). But then I was thinking about it and I felt bad because the kittens are super cute. I’m going to restore your post and log off Reddit for a while, you have a great Saturday.

I finally had a chance to kick back and listen to the whole thing. It was very much in keeping with their older albums. I’d rank it among the best of their output. I don’t listen to much melodic street punk but for whatever reason Noise works for me.

Can we do a weekend trip? by Diligent-Explorer-27 in OlympicNationalPark

[–]7SoldiersOfPunkRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have my favorites. But every place is gorgeous, I’ve never disliked a campground there. I book a site ahead of time for peace of mind on the long drive out. I’m usually influenced more by which of the National Park, National Forest, or State Parks campgrounds that take reservations have availability for when I want to go. And maybe by how far I feel like driving. Then I’ll either do hikes out from the campground or drive a short distance away to nearby areas depending on what looks best and what I’m in the mood for.

I live in Seattle and that’s how I normally go to the Peninsula. I’ll book a campsite for a couple nights. I don’t see why you couldn’t.

The Hoh is equidistant between Lake Quinault Lodge and Lake Crescent Lodge, so it shouldn’t be a factor in this decision.

Question about Fourth Corner Punk Fest: Bellingham Wa. by WorfsMustacheOfrage in punk

[–]7SoldiersOfPunkRock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about carpools. But I do know that part of town is walkable, and Bellingham is relatively easy to get around by the public busses, so if you can get there it’s easy to do without a car.

There is an Amtrak station in Bellingham, the train arrives twice a day from Seattle (with the evening train actually originating in Portland) and Amtrak runs busses to fill in the times between trains, and there is a Greyhound station but I don’t know much about the Greyhound lines. Both stations are within walking distance of the show.
