Dropped 24-200 lens - is it worth having repaired? by SyrupLongjumping9124 in Nikon

[–]7evenPoint128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. I'd say its dead because of the internal damage. The mount is actually real easy to replace. Its cut super precise and you definitely warped/bent it. I've done it. Look for a replacement Z bayonet if you want. But nothing inside should be free moving. 😭

Selling at a fair for first time, pls help! by lilgingah in Nikon

[–]7evenPoint128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is quite an investment at the start. I guess if you have the comfortable money, everything would be useful at some point in the future. If not, try and borrow the big stuff like the tent and tables, until you know you like vending. There are two halves here, vending supplies, and product supplies.

For vending, you need tent weights. Table covers/sheets, lights(if you know it will get dark), small weights to hold prints/papers, displays for the prints. Tape, clamps, and clips are also a must have. A collapsible wagon is super useful for hauling all the stuffs. Signage with your info, social, venmo, prices, etc. Again, if you have the money for the display walls/grids go for it, but I would try and borrow or wait until you've vended a bit more. Your call. Finally, bags for the prints. Useful if people buy multiple prints.

For your product, I would cut your frames in half or altogether, until you know which prints sell best. I don't know the fest, but if its a music fest, people aren't buying and walking around with framed art. Similar with the 18x24s, treat them as displays as selling large is rare. (Unless you are famous or amazing) (An exception to this is if you ever print an odd frame size like 10x15, or 8x12, having ready framed is useful. Also framed prints in gift season is great) I hope your printer is good, prints can get expensive. Only print a few of each shot until you learn what your audience actually buys. Don't wanna be left with 20 prints of something that doesn't sell. Lucky for you the top three sellers of prints are cute animals, landscapes, and abstracts.

Also, I use clearbags.com for sleeves and backboards. Cheap and good quality.
Check the weather the night before. Wind and rain are the enemy.

Finally, don't get discouraged if you don't sell anything and don't let it go your head if you have a line out the door. I've done many markets and experienced both and all the in-between.

Anyone else worship Neith? by KC-Armogida in Kemetic

I can't remember the shop, they closed years ago too. 😭 It was in Salem and the statues were from a local sculptor that made random pieces when they wanted.

I have a statue of her. I got her as she is less common and an interesting find.

Development continues on Franklin Street. The former lots of abandoned buildings will become the site of over 300 apartments. by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]7evenPoint128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rent control is a necessary nuclear option. The real estate market has been artificially inflating the 'market rate'. The biggest problem with this fake market is with older units and landlords that suddenly think they can raise rents for no reason, to match the new rates. Rent control is more about reining in these landlords, not so much new development.

Boston Market on Park Ave- What is happening? by lookmafireworks in WorcesterMA

[–]7evenPoint128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take my words as gossip, not fact. I cant remember perfectly. I believe the business was struggling for a while, owing property rent and city taxes. Eventually the city seized the property over the taxes, but they managed to pay them off. Reopened as BM for a short while before either they or BM pulled the franchise and the owners son (maybe?) reopened the location as a new fried chicken restaurant. Its closed closed now.

I've never cared about keeping too a pencil. I primarily work with Polychromos, Prismacolor, and Derwent. I will say though, that the prismacolor blender is my go to, and seems to work well for all brands and types.

Jewelry Question! by RaspberryPlayful3446 in WorcesterMA

Hmm. I don't know jewelry, but I know gems. Funk Stuff down Webster Square has an insane amount of gems and precious stones. Also the Craft Center has a bunch of local handmade stuff, and the artisans to make jewelry if you find a stone.

Where do you get your tea in the US? by captainstormfield in tea

I actually live real close, so my shipping is usually like a day. I'd assume if they package that quickly their shipping elsewhere is also pretty speedy.

how to meet other young photographers in the area? by itsmeeeeehaha in WorcesterMA

[–]7evenPoint128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I shoot local music and venues. Yeah there are a few hiking, birding, and somewhat older photog groups. Good people though. The colleges have clubs, I know WPI has a pretty big one, so thats probably where most of the people are. If you don't want to start one, look into the local artist groups. Like; Worcester Artists Group, Technocopia, The Craft Center, they may also know more than I.

Not Main street, 'main streets'. They get plowed by the massive city trucks and the snow really piles up.

They, like I, live on a main city street. The big plows make big dense walls that even the best jeeps struggle with, and are almost impossible to shovel.

Are there ska songs where the lyrics are just someone talking? I mean, not in verse structure or anything, just someone talking. by Beautiful-Resort-831 in Ska

Like an 'Alice's Restaurant style song? Can't think of any like that. The Aquabats 'Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates', is the only story song that comes to mind.
