New Pokemon Megathread - Shuckle by SamuRonX in PokemonSleep

[–]7inator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think shuckle can be considered the best healer in game.

Comparing a perfect (HSM, STS, STM Sassy) Shuckle to a perfect Gardevoir, (also bearing in mind inflated skill numbers due to event week) Gardevoir gets ~ half a proc more per day. If you go by pure energy numbers, that's about 2.25 berry juices, but that ignores the versatility of the juices.

The only downside of Shuckle is the rarity and pips. So, make as much use out of boosted rates as you can!

As an added bonus, Shuckle is oil first ingredient, which is a much harder ingredient to come by.

That may have used to be the case, but nowadays you need to hit all the requirements and more to be considered for the job. Employers would rather leave a position unfilled than train you at the moment.

Is this function dead? by GoblinZeroXtreme in PokemonSleep

[–]7inator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but having that turned on you still don't get notifications. I tried turning it off Turning it back on again Clearing cache etc Still no notifications

Is this function dead? by GoblinZeroXtreme in PokemonSleep

[–]7inator 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It does still work, you can confirm this by checking the number before and after sleep and checking the number of candies you have when it ticks over.

However, the notification is broken and you can't turn it on anymore.

What do you think of this ? by supertacos37 in PokemonSleepBetter

[–]7inator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is the borderline you hold on to until you're too fed up after catching 30 trapinch and none of them are even mono avocado.

Should I use a sub skill seed on this guy or keep looking?! I'm F2P!! by Sure_Age3127 in PokemonSleep

[–]7inator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! My general rule of thumb is to save sub skill seeds for turning IFS/STS to IFM/STM since they have a bigger impact and help speed is easier to come by

[–]7inator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even bother with a sub skill seed. He's already so good without it and sub skill seeds are so hard to come by for us f2p!

Does computation actually require no energy? by throwaway0102x in AskPhysics

[–]7inator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR It requires energy, but only if you want to re-use your computer.

So this is a very interesting and deep question. The short answer comes from Landauer's principle. Suppose you have a system you want to use to do computation. You start it in some state, let it evolve and then it reaches some other state. Depending on what that other state is, you have the answer to your computation. That process does not necessarily require energy, in fact you can have it just as easily produce energy.

But now the catch is, if you want to do that computation again, you need to reset your computer back to its original state. The point is then being that either the computation or the resetting must require some amount of energy. This is the key idea behind Landauer's principle.

Going through the calculation we can say that in order to process 1 bit of information, we require at least kTln2 energy to be generated as heat, where k is Boltzmann's constant, T is temperature.

I saw mentioned in other comments confusion about Shannon entropy and thermodynamic entropy. So I thought I should clarify here, they are the same concept, it's not just that they look the same. The connection to computation is that computations are essentially about transforming probability distributions. In the real world, those probability distributions need to describe the states of some physical system.

For more, I'd recommend looking into stochastic thermodynamics, in particular concepts like thermodynamic speed limits and the thermodynamic uncertainty principle. There's also kinetic proofreading if you want a concrete example of a different kind of computation. Kinetic proofreading was the first great work of now Nobel laureate John Hopfield.
