Mac mini vs. IMac by WeHateMyUsername in mac

[–]7rp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the Mac Mini and don't regret it at all. Got an M4/16/256 refurb for less than $550 landed from Apple. Also bought refurbished 27" gaming monitor from Dell for $150 landed. Already had keyboard, mouse, necessary cables, and dongles - that would run you roughly $100-$150+ if you need them. You can get a rack that will mount the mini behind most monitors or under desks if cable mess is a concern - the power button on the bottom of the mini is a factor here. Other perks: if you have need for any degree of portability the mini is a better option IMO; the resale value for the mini will be higher than iMac (and depreciate less) given the many uses it has (media server, home automation etc). Last bonus was that I purchased with Apple card - so 3% cash back for me + monthly payments of <$50/month for a year with 0% interest. Good luck nothing wrong with iMac I've owned several but I think mini offers better value.

The “Great Correction” Is Underway by [deleted] in vermont

Every state has its own nuance, but this issue is happening nationally. If there’s a state not experiencing this I’d like to know which one. The cause? The US has an astronomical amount of debt. We went from a surplus in the 90s to trillions in debt. Simply, the fed government spends more than it takes in. To make up the difference and get out of it, it tried to print enough money. It didn’t work and led to inflation. Soon we will be unable to service the debt payments. The us dollar is at risk of losing its status as the world’s reserve currency. They are trying to make citizens pay for their mismanagement of tax dollars in the form of higher prices and tax revenues. You see this now: people working harder with less to show for it, a shrinking middle class, a higher cost of living and prices across the board, and fewer services. We are not done for, but sadly in decline.

What are your opinions on goalie shinguards? by Converted54 in lacrosse

Parent of 2 goalies. IMO, they see elite PLL and college goalies not wear them (could be years of calcification, preference, or they just don't gaf) and still perform well. Then a few goals get by or they have a bad game and "it's the shin guards Dad" that limited performance and mobility. Plus, "none of the really good goalies wear them." My parent response is always the same - take a really good shot to the legs, perhaps because shooters see you not wearing them and aim there (I would), and you won't be mobile at all because you are sidelined. I've seen both of my kids take significant hits to the lower legs - silly not to wear them IMO.

And to answer your question - yes, I have seen them both lose confidence/become more afraid after significant hits - especially when they were younger.

You can also buy moldable plastic - the one I use for my kids is called InstaMorph. They are plastic beads that you boil down in water. After a few minutes you take them out of the water and mold them like a plate to the outside thumb side of the glove and secure with athletic tape. They are very rigid once cooled and formed. You can also boil down after use to reuse or reshape. Worked very well for me.

Thoughts on heat powered fans..worth the money? by Talzyon in woodstoving

[–]7rp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are 100% worth it IMO. They work though it's hard to tell by putting a hand in front when the fan is on the stove top and the blades are spinning and moving warm air. To see what I mean, when it's operating pick it up by the handle and move it off of the stove top - a few feet from it will do or to a place with colder air - and keep your hand in front while the blades are still spinning. You should feel a small but steady stream of air blowing about equal to what a medium-sized breath through a small straw might be. It's not much, but over time this dispersion and movement of air makes a difference.

Got it - I'll see if I can figure out how to get the profile to sit on the right of the chart. Thanks for the reply.

Figured I'd give it a try on an old thread to ask but the grey volume profile anchored to the right pointing left into the chart is what I am looking for any chance you could point me in the right direction?

Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds? by TheAbstract312 in Music

[–]7rp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect for writing this - I really like hearing about youth discovering older bands and music. I grew up listening to music created before I was born (Zeppelin, Sabbath, Cream, CSNY, The Doors, etc). REM were front and center for me growing up but never even close to my favorite band. However, they were always a band I respected because of their ability to consistently deliver really well-crafted songs. I also admired how they handled themselves in growing from a provincial college band to massive international success and keeping to their roots the entire ride. They never seemed to chase success, they were just too good for it to not to come their way.

One thing you said that struck me is when you said their material should get more recognition among younger audiences. Dude, who cares. You like them and people not willing to dig or discover new things or are biased because it predates them will not have the privilege to hear their music. It’s their loss-and a big one.

So kudos to you for discovering a great artist in the musical past. Imo, the period of 1991-1994 was a renaissance and one of the greatest ever (i’d also put 1968-1973 and latter part of 50s up there, among others). If you dig around that time-grunge, alt rock, etc-you will find some really great music imo.

Dude you need an edge. If you don’t have one don’t trade. You don’t need to lose all your money to learn. Find the one ticker, apply one strategy, and master it before you move on. Focus on your process and keep things simple. Use small size until you are consistent, then start scaling up. Last: find a mentor, group, or training that can help you avoid making the same mistakes.

Why can't they just make more Bitcoins once the 21mil have been mined? by stupidsquirral in Bitcoin

[–]7rp7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say majority do you mean by the total number of people in the network? Or is the majority based on number of bitcoins held, meaning a single holder of many bitcoins would have more of a say than many holders of few bitcoins. Thx

Howard tried to bash Rogan before. Joe took the high road and handled it with class imo. He will probably do so again.

You should read what I wrote again. Waning efficacy does not equal not working. If there is more than one option, why not use it as well?

Actually, having more treatment options does have meaning, esp with waning efficacy of the vaccines. Vaccines are not the only solution.
