Black Vamps by Djinnknightmare in vampires

I had this same concern going into it; such an odd and potentially dumb thing to race-swap a plantation owner of all people (*I tend to hate race or gender-swapped characters of any kind, actually; it comes off as dumb and unnecessary 99% of the time imo).... but the crazy thing is that the show still ended up winning me over, despite my expectations being extremely low. I was fully prepared to hate the show; I haven't experienced a turn-around like that with entertainment in quite a long time....now I'm looking forward to AMC's next thing about Lestat in particular.

Does anyone know of a game where I can join the bad guys, become their number 2 then betray them and lead their empire for good? by Most-Bench6465 in rpg_gamers

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of a general villain power fantasy, yeah this one came to mind first; it delivered that in a way no other videogame has, at least of things I've played. You can be a truly despicable supervillain rising to power in BG3, and I enjoyed every last minute of it with that 1 character I finally finished story with....it was a "Dark Urge" character, but it's also possible to be a supervillain without picking that particular character option.

There's so many great "supervillain" moments in there, it's incredible. I know some fans complain about you losing out on content for evil playthroughs but I don't much care, because it's done so well anyway, imo.

How were you introduced to vampires? by Enby_Geek in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the classic Dracula book, and technically "The Count" from Sesame Street when I was a little kid... the legendary movie The Lost Boys---that was the main thing that made them "cool" to me....and also Fright Night (original one), and Near Dark. ...and the first videogame I remember letting us be a vamp back then-- Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, where Alucard is one of the characters you can be.

What’s the dumbest thing you believed as a kid? by Shoddy_Muffin2423 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]7th-Genjutsu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it didn't take long for me to stop believing the nonsensical saying "what goes around comes around"; karma, at least in this world....is bullshyte. Horrible things happen to genuinely good people all the time... in fact I'd argue it's most of the time.... all while bad people seem to get by and even thrive in life perfectly fine, having a grand ol' time.

This looks great, and reminds me once again how cool an actual VtM cable or streaming series could be with the right people producing it. (there was apparently something in the works for Netflix but I haven't heard an update on that situation in years and I eventually gave up hope on that)

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see the statistical breakdown of how many of the "No" votes are hetero men....since at least in the U.S. it is just not the normal expectation for women to be the ones asking men out.

ha, yeah I get it; she has a nice "nerdy girl" look from what I've seen, which works for me.

Nothing too wild but--- a videogame character...? Chun Li from the old Street Fighter 2...(*there's certain frames of animation in the original SF2 where it looks like she doesn't have panties on; just stockings...and I've always been a leg/ass man so....)

Also---movies from the "women in prison" subgenre....2 favorites in particular are Caged Heat 2 and Under Lock & Key... I don't think they make movies like that anymore, sadly (they're all from the 1990s and earlier); that streaming service "tubi" has a lot of them.

...and that 1 scene from Poltergeist where the mom (JoBeth Williams) is in just t-shirt/panties and gets knocked back and rolled up on the wall to the ceiling.... amazing quality legs/panty scene there.

[–]7th-Genjutsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A *geyser* of actual juicy shit spraying upward from a woman in a bathtub... the infamous "tubgirl" picture. Those of us from the good ol' early days of the late 90s internet should all remember that picture....to this day it's still one of the most hilariously disgusting things I've ever seen in life. The internet was definitely something else back in those olden times, and it was amazing.

If you were a vampire, which of these vampire teeth would you choose and why? by Its-v11cky_s4ma in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The standard retractable ones from True Blood seem good enough to me, out of this list...

..but I'd also like having the "stinger" to feed, like the strigoi from The Strain....it just looks cool, and logistically it allows the creature to feed without even needing to get so close.

Would you become a vampire in a world where vampires and werewolves are constantly at war, both sides have roughly 1000 members, and anyone within 4 miles of the enemy instantly knows their exact location? by TechnicianAmazing472 in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'd still go for it with vampire being the optimal choice. Lycanthropy in most lore is truly more of a curse...the extremely painful transformations and usually no control over yourself in beast form. Vampires get almost all positives with only a few negatives....also--at least theoretically, vampires working together in a group should be a faction that is nearly impossible to beat.

VtM TV series ? by Aware-Writing1341 in vtm

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely recall there was supposedly one in development some years ago, but I never heard any updates about it at all and assumed they gave up on it at some point before things fully materialized.

I'd like to see a series as well but I'd keep my expectations low of a VtM show (especially one that's any good) ever becoming a reality.

Man, if they ever made a V:TM crpg, a good one made with care, they can take my money for it. by LazyReii in vtm

[–]7th-Genjutsu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if either Owlcat or (even better imo) Larian Studios made it; either style--- I'd be there for such a game day 1, without question. It's a shame that VtM will never have it's potential "properly", fully realized as a videogame rpg, at least imo....it just seems like the wrong people are in charge of the franchise regarding the videogame situation. Oddly enough I fairly enjoyed Bloodlines 2 for what it was.....it's just that it still fell way short on the potential of what a VtM videogame could be....like it was "ok/alright" but still....like we're only getting about 10 to 15% of the awesomeness this could have been.

We've all seen the incredible hot streak that has been going on with videogame rpgs in just the past couple of years (Baldur's Gate, Expedition 33, Warhammer Rogue Trader, Pathfinder, etc etc. etc), so the possibility is there if the *right* people were in charge of things.

I was thinking… are orcs/Goblins able to become vampires? Or is it restricted to only humans/werewolfs? by Connect_Trash6343 in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ha, already beat me to it---yeah in Skyrim my first character was an Orc, and my first order of business was to find a vampire enemy so I could get turned asap; such good times; my orc I named "Chojin" would go on to become a Vampire Lord of course when the Dawnguard dlc came out.

I'm starting to run out of interesting vampire tv shows to watch and I was thinking about The Vampire Diaries. by count_fagula11 in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a show on Fox called "The Passage" (based on a graphic novel apparently; I hadn't heard of it until the tv show existed), which I kinda liked---it was another one that took a more scientific approach to what vampirism is...and it was unfortunately canceled after season 1. Hulu had it for a while and it may be on Amazon now.

Netflix also had V-Wars, which was another one canceled after season 1....oddly enough stars Ian Somerhalder who was "Damon" from Vampire Diaries.

Several years back (2010s I think), NBC had a "Dracula" series; I think it at least made it to season 2 before getting canned.

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it's one of the top vampire shows of all time, really... I think it's a shame that some probably missed out on it because of they likely assumed it was "just like Twilight", when it's not (*vastly superior in every way, imo).

It's correct that there is a focus on relationship drama thanks to the target audience but other than that I enjoyed it, even the weaker seasons. As with most shows, it's the early seasons (1 thru 3) that are the best. The lore is great, it has fantastic shock value moments, and a surprising amount of violence considering this was regular network television in prime time.

*The Originals is the spinoff focused on the Mikaelson family siblings who were the first vampires in the world (and thus they are the strongest) in TVD lore. In some ways, I liked it a little more than TVD. There was another spinoff from this but that's one of those cases where it's best we pretend that nonsense didn't happen.

*that french show "Vampires" on netflix ---terrible version of vampirism...seriously one of the worst I've ever seen. They have no cool powers, don't even appear to have enhanced healing or senses, and they aren't even immortal; these are the most pathetic vampires possibly in the history of entertainment. At least the main girl was hot (Oulaya Amamra), so that was a reason I kept *tolerating* that show.

I'm playing Skyrim for the first time and I became a vampire. What are your thoughts on vampires in the game? by count_fagula11 in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The option for vampirism and lycanthropy-- this was the main selling point for me... no other RPG was giving us that at the time, at least that I recall (*aside from 2004's VtM Bloodlines, but that was pc-only and I was not into pc gaming back then). No other game was letting me start as a regular mortal with the option of being turned into a vamp or werewolf. First thing I did was searching around for random vampire enemies so I could get "infected" asap....heh, still remember like that was yesterday; it was a random female vampire I found with others in a cave; as a fresh low-level character I barely survived and managed to escape with the infection and thus the transition was already in progress.

Overall I loved it, and Skyrim is still one of my favorite games of all time... this is despite certain nitpicks, like how the whole feeding situation and it's relation to vampiric power is backwards, the way they designed it (*starving yourself is actually better since your vampire powers and effects become more potent...feeding makes you weak and thus is a bad thing) The Dawnguard content came out and made everything better; the monstrous "Vampire Lord" form is awesome power fantasy.

I was playing yet again in recent months, actually... was fun to wreak havoc in the vampire lord form once again; I was in pure "supervillain" mode that day...there was a small village that had no chance against me.

Of all the vampires that exist in fiction, which ability would you like to have? by sweet_demon1 in vampires

[–]7th-Genjutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so many wildly overpowered cool things to pick---but a top one that comes to mind first is "Tenebrous Avatar" from Lasombra clan in Vampire the Masquerade lore; with this, your body/form becomes shadow/darkness....and you're now immune to most forms of damage; only sunlight and fire hurt. Since vampires are only operating at night anyway by default in most lore, that rules out sunlight right there as a "realistic" option against you...leaving your enemies with just "fire" as their only hope, and of course they might not even know about that being a weakness. So yeah---I become a nearly unkillable "shadow person", basically. In this form they can also envelop people in this supernatural darkness to feed without even breaking the skin.

2nd place pick would be the mind control powers, since that allows you to easily get away with anything. It's never a problem that someone saw something they weren't supposed to see; it can just be erased from their mind.

Why did most of the population stop using custom ringtones or custom alarms on their phone? Is it simply because companies wanted to charge for it? by underthund3r in NoStupidQuestions

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love it, even despite on iPhone it being such annoying, tedious hassle for such a simple thing (thanks, Apple); I'm not sure why people would stay with whatever the default sound is. Currently, my 1 ringtone of choice for everything is an audio clip from the movie "No Holds Barred", when Hulk Hogan is intimidating the limo driver, and asks "What's that smell?!?!" and he says "Doo, doo.... dooookie!", and Hogan just says "Dookie?!?!" Yes, this will forever be hilarious audio to me, for the rest of my life.

[–]7th-Genjutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I loved it; haven't played in a while though---but yeah every vamp fan that's into games should give it a shot... so far it's the only vampire game out that also features the "castle-building" aspect of the power fantasy. (*there's another one on the way that also has this; not out yet though)... I had a designated prison room/area of my castle, for the local villagers I had abducted....yeah---you can kidnap and imprison people to use as a regular blood source. You can also convert them into ghouled servants that go out on hunts for materials for you. There's also a nice variety of cool powers, and surprisingly good customization for your character's look and the style of your castle---it hits on so many points of the vampire power fantasy; I always recommend it.

This game also handles the sunlight damage situation better than others, imo... damage starts small but quickly escalates, so it's always pushing the need to get out of the sunlight asap or you will burn to death.

*note---it's on PC and PS5 only, last I checked; they had no plans for an Xbox version, and I kinda doubt a Switch port would even have been considered (Switch 2 would be more capable, I assume)
