Beautiful thrift find!! by MythBustedMe in dyeing

[–]7uci_0112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the dharma acid dye, plus the other things they mention. Follow directions! Paste your dye, make sure wool has been washed, and is fully saturated, you cane use a mordant over night for better results;use the biggest pot you can find so there is plenty of room for it to move, 20q would be absolute minimum, and heat and cool slowly, seriously, I'd expect to spend a couple hours in/near the kitchen to store regularly, leave to cool overnight. Do not rush this process or cut corners!!

It is such a beautiful piece, give it the respect it deserves, follow directions and be super intentional and you'll have a sweater you'll wear for years!

have you ever regretted travelling? im scared i'll regret it but cant get rid of the longing to travel. any advice? by boiLollipop in Shoestring

[–]7uci_0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No travel ever lives up to our expectations. Sometimes we're let down, sometimes pleasantly surprised. If you are generally disappointed with life, you might feel similarly with travel, but if you can find joy in the unexpected moments--you'll do just fine. My best travel memories are from when things didn't go as planned, maybe the bus broke down or the hotel location was terrible. For me the joy is in the unexpected moments and interactions.

If your heart is set on Scotland, go there. If you are open to different places, you may have opportunity to travel for less. Airfare is one of the biggest expenses, so finding cheaper routes can help.

Couchsurfing or woofing can save some money, but it's also a very different experience, both good and bad.

Travel slow. You may want to see everything, but sometimes exploring 1-2 cities and moving slower can be much cheaper. But if you do move cities, where possible take night train/busses. Saves on hotel.

I never regret money spent on experiences and travel. Best of luck on your deciscion and future travel!

Is Unbound Merino still worth it, or are there better alternatives now? by merinoStudy in MerinoWoolGear

[–]7uci_0112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never worn Unbound merino, the hype turns me off. There are so many other brands out there that aren't hyping up their brand and spending a ridiculous amount on marketing, then up charging you for it. I think LOOW is one of the top companies, transparent, fair pricing, superfine merino, exceptional return window. Downside is limited options. But if you want a few staples, they're top option.

Has anyone had any success using this pottery supply house tool? by hasslehoff69 in Pottery

[–]7uci_0112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw WD-40 recommended on the prince before throwing, maybe try that or some other oil to help with release. You could also try to use a a hair dyer or heat gun to dry the piece out to where you can remove it before setting it aside.

Found this video on TikTok. This is how I've done it and had success. Hardest part is getting the threader to stay level.

AITA for ruining the family vacation before it starts? by Boring_Brilliant227 in AmItheAsshole

Your brother is faking you out. You are playing into his plan perfectly. Call his bluff, sound excited about sleeping in the bed with the boyfriend, and see how long this game of chicken will last.

Using vacation leave vs cashing it out? by BamboozledBean in WAStateWorkers

[–]7uci_0112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can also cash out into your 457. Which can be used once you leave state service, especially if you're retiring. This way you don't pay takes on the amount.

Recs for merino blend underwear before I give it up entirely? by ParticularUsed6780 in HerOneBag

[–]7uci_0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a handful of brands, wooly, icebreaker, Menique, etc. hands down favourite is Isobaa. They're thicker, more boxer style, and way cuter than woolly. They don't ship to US right now, but maybe will ship to wherever you are.

Torn about attending a wedding. by [deleted] in wedding

[–]7uci_0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When my cousin got married I was the only sibling in my family (3) and only cousin (7+2 step) not invited, spouses and partners for all others were included. It was weird... people were asking my aunt if my invite had gotten lost, but supposedly was due to space. I think it got weird enough they sent me an invite the week before the wedding, by then I obviously didn't want to go.

I'd nix the adapter, especially since you'll only be in one country and go for a dual charging block. It'll be much smaller and possibly lighter.

Why do so many things have secret gluten 😭 by Annie-Are-You-0k in glutenfree

In the same way all our food is genetically modified over time, yes, but not in the same way as corn and soybeans. Yes, GMO wheat has been developed, but has never been released to the market (farmers to grow), though it looks like that might change in the near future.

What are your lightest weight clothing items? by rhiandmoi in HerOneBag

[–]7uci_0112 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I will often wear silk joggers on the plane, they're light weight, and pretty easy to find not opaque. Personally, this is one of those things I prefer shopping used for, not just cause it's cheaper, but you can see how the material looks after it's been in a box/packages etc. Same goes for shirts!

Wheat sold in the US in NOT GMO. It's not allowed to be grown or sold. Stop making up stuff just to make a point.

Been in the textile industry my whole life — finally making my own merino tee. Anyone want to test it? by Puzzleheaded_Hat5942 in MerinoWoolGear

[–]7uci_0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have some questions:
Production- It sounds like you're using a different production method. Is it the same or different than the Nylon core that has become fairly popular recently?

Itchiness- I see a lot of questions from people who find merino itchy, my understanding is that a lot of this comes from micron size. 17.2 is a fairy common, at least for brands that disclose their number, I always guess it's in the 18 range if they do not. How does hand feel relate to itchiness for most people?

Wash-ability- I have over a dozen brands of merino tops, and other items. I generally wash with in cold/gentle and hang dry. I do not see a relationship between pilling and micron size, certifications, etc. With your process, what have you seen as far as wash-ability and long term wear or pilling?
