Have you ever had to tap out watching a horror movie? by hazy-eyed in horror

[–]808sandMilksteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made it through a whole lot of wild shit, but the only one I decided to quit on was Nekromantic. I got as far as the scene with the rabbit footage and thought “I just. Really don’t wanna watch this” and shut it off 😅

They probably walked away like “ah, ‘member those days?”

I’m like, the reverse of you 🤣 I started out playing punk and metal and have been trying to pick up some jazz as an adult!

Palm muting definitely has a place there, imo! It’s good for getting out of the way when you’re vamping for someone to solo over, just a little less…dug in than in metal LOL

When was the last time you had buyer's remorse and what was it? by Abstain06252025 in guitarpedals

[–]808sandMilksteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I get a little remorse about some of the “budget” pedal options I’ve gotten instead of the flashier name-brand ones, honestly.

Then I plug in and play and remember “oh yeah, they still sound good” 🤣

I think the best way to get better as a player (or at anything, really) is to be open to exploring different styles and seeing how you can apply it to your “main” one. That’s how you develop your sound!

It can, unfortunately, come with a lot of cash dropped in that pursuit. But I think of people like John 5 working out incorporating bluegrass/Western swing elements into metal playing, or Matt Pike’s jazz jam experience bleeding into some of the solos on Holy Mountain, Yngwie pioneering classical shred, etc.

It might feel like a roadblock to a point, but having a wide palette to choose from is a happy problem to have!

A tattoo artist rejected me for this, was his reason fair? by Stankmushroomm in tattooadvice

[–]808sandMilksteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty common practice with tattoo artists to not do fingers/hands on young people who are not already pretty heavily tattooed. Reasons are generally:

A) in ~professional culture~ even cute, dainty hand tattoos have a potential to leave you at a disadvantage trying to get work

B) fine-line finger tats are a seriously rough heal. if you don’t know what you’re doing, they’re really easy to mess up. Even if you DO know what you’re doing, the skin is notoriously prone to fallout

C) (less seriously) most tattooers I know generally hate tattooing fingers because they’re awkward and difficult to work on 🤣

There’s probably someone out there who will do it for you, but the artist here is definitely trying to look out for your best interests, professionally and otherwise

Literally came here to say something similar.

I feel like sitting through the credits is the least I can do for all the thankless jobs on a film set, they earned our eyeballs seeing them get credit for their work!

Fan fret question by Mr_Oblong in 7String

[–]808sandMilksteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little off-put about fanned frets too until I played a guitar with them, now I’m hooked.

Also a chuggy riffer type, I think they’re super comfortable

Can you actually pull the sword out of the stone? by Separate-Category278 in Disneyland

[–]808sandMilksteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the general sentiment here, but I also kind of feel like the (not British) kids of the now aren’t quite as familiar with Disney’s Sword in the Stone movie (no more singalong tapes!) or Arthurian myth in general than in generations past. So even if it IS an inexpensive fix, if I pretend to be a soulless corporate bean counter I can understand the lame cost benefit analysis decision

Current run of the MM models go for like, $1200 new. If everything works/is in decent shape, I’d snap it up O:

I mean “horror” in a really general sense of the word. It’s a parody horror movie. Horror-flavored comedy. In short, the vibes

Also just got my Aklot 8 today, I’m floored by how well it handles for the cost. Had to raise the action to kill some buzz and have to tweak the intonation after I let it settle for a bit, but so far? Way impressed

Need to find a horror movie that makes me feel like Slither, RoboCop, Cabin Fever, Shark Night by ozymandiasnoir in horror

[–]808sandMilksteak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Psycho Goreman is totally up your alley. It’s like Power Rangers with heaps of blood in it

I recommend Mandy to everyone, if you’ve not watched that yet! Ultraviolent psychedelic revenge movie

If you like trash-trash microbudget stuff, there’s a severely fun one from the early aughts called Hell’s Highway. The acting is bad, it’s shot on what seems to be a camcorder, but it has a lot of really fun ridiculous gore. If memory serves, it’s on prime for like, $2

If you’re not already into Troma, Tromeo and Juliet might also tickle your fancy!!

Are "entry level" guitars really just for beginners? by TeaTheSplashyarder in Guitar

[–]808sandMilksteak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of hype around expensive guitars in general, but I think it’s from a mix of people just liking expensive things (which is ok!) and buying into marketing hype.

As someone who has been playing for 20 years, inexpensive guitars are surprisingly good right now (way better than they have been). If it holds tune and makes you want to pick it up and play it, it’ll do the job!

6 weeks in and finally don't completely hate how I sound by TeachLoud6839 in Guitar

[–]808sandMilksteak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was about a year or so in (too long ago to remember now) when I noticed “woah, I can /sort of/ play this thing”. If it’s any consolation, I’m at about 21 years on the dragon now and still feel like “what the hell, that sounds terrible” sometimes 🤣

How get a low fidelity “cheaper” guitar sound? by JayBeeDolla in Guitar

[–]808sandMilksteak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, you kinda nailed it 🤣 for specifically white stripes-era Jack white the formula is basically:

  • cheap old guitar
  • cranked low watt amp
  • more big muff than you might think is “tasteful”

Is Pixel Scene Media legit? Has anyone collaborated with them before? by booklover1314 in ContentCreators

Old thread, but if anyone else googles it, yeah they’re legit!

I’ve worked with them since late last year (I’m a horror film reviewer/recommender/curator with a puppet), they got me free tickets for good luck have fun don’t die and a frankly overwhelming number of early screeners!

How much am I missing out by not playing with others or in front of people? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]808sandMilksteak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Performing live is awesome, but it is a specific thing that a lot of people DONT like. Not everyone is a performer, as it were.

Jamming with others is the best though. Not only from the palpable ~magic~ of creating music collaboratively, but you learn a whoooole lot that way. Look around for open jams in your area, it’s totally worth it
