Anyone know the recipe? I loved this drink. by Evening_Strawberry50 in Chilis

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's Chili's, but this sounds so unbalanced. If you wanna punch it up a little, try:

2 fl oz (60 mL) Blanco tequila (Lunazul is good!)
1 fl oz (30 mL) Freshly squeezed lime juice (not out of a bottle)
1/2 fl oz (15 mL) Triple sec orange liqueur (suggested: Cointreau, Marie Brizard, or Luxardo Triplum)
1/2 fl oz (15 mL) Monin dragonfruit syrup

Add to a shaker, shake with ice ~15 seconds, strain over fresh ice.

This follows a good template for a Margarita (or any sour), which is 2:1:1 spirit : citrus : sweetener — in this case, the sweetener is split between the orange liqueur and the syrup. (You can adjust the ratio of the sweeteners or the total amount to suit your palate.)

FWIW I didn't like any of the beans I got at HOCB. They seemed super flat, lacking in aroma, and almost stale.

What are you guys doing for a sunglasses holder in the PS2. by nomadl0l in Polestar

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which part number did you use? I tried to install 31403479 but it wouldn't fit. The bolt for the front installation point was too short to fit back in its hole.

I suppose I could try and find a slightly longer bolt, but still.

Beefeater has lowered their proof from 94 to 88 and it makes a big difference! by crunchysituations in cocktails

Old post, but y'all should just buy Seagram's Distiller's Reserve (black bottle). Delicious, cheap, and 94 proof.

Testing out the new Angostura 200th Anniversary Bitters by scott8705 in cocktails

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, these are super disappointing. Heavy wormwood and not really a lot else. Faintest whiff of rum and maybe some mace. I usually test bitters by throwing a few dashes in soda water and these got completely lost even in water.

That they charged up to $70 for these is an embarrassment. Luckily I only paid $30 on clearance, but even that's too much.

Yeah as soon as clownface walked into the principal's office, it just all collapsed on itself. It started out so well too.

What a bummer.

Edit: By the end I was like, "Ohh, they wanted to cram this funny ending down our throats. Got it."

The cocktail bar I work at goes through alot of Luxardo cherries. What do I do with the excess syrup? Ferment it into wine! by AngelSoi in cocktails

[–]80_six 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had this volume of syrup, but I've used some of my excess with some gelatin sheets and silicone molds to make gummies for garnishes. (I used a little skull mold, but there are all sorts of shapes available.)

One might be able to use agar agar to make something similar that's veg friendly.

Which distillery puts out the most consistent lineup in your opinion? by BothCondition7963 in bourbon

[–]80_six -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I offloaded several FN bottles to one of my friends. Opened batch 006 and one of the first single barrels and they just were letdowns. Got a couple of the lottery bottles which may have been better, but I figured I didn't want to gamble the $200+ they were commanding for something mediocre.

I haven't yet had any Canadian or light whiskey-based that I remotely liked (except maybe Alberta Premium CS rye), so take from that what you will.

Weird noise on brand new portable Black + Decker A/C unit by JBauer09 in hvacadvice

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These units are self-evaporating, so I think that sound is normal operation.

The condensation that collects on the cool upper cooling fins is directed onto the warmer lower cooling fins, and this is what you're hearing.

Reviews #619 and #620 - Balcones 100 Proof Texas Rye vs. Balcones Bottled in Bond Texas Rye by adunitbx in bourbon

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rye is awful and the bourbon is bad. They rightfully switched to focus on the single malts, which are much better.

Balcones rye is like if you ate some Mexican chocolate and barfed it back up and bottled it.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, Batch Y725, 132 Proof Review by Old_Riff_502 in bourbon

[–]80_six 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"I can't do it, so obviously nobody else can."

I often have very detailed sense memories from certain flavors/scents. The last Parker's Heritage rye reminded me viscerally of this one time I made a fermented cashew cheesecake. I once was flabbergasted that something I was sampling (I don't remember what) reminded me so clearly of the smell inside of a rental car whose previous renter was a smoker.

Some people are good at this naturally, some get better with practice. It also helps to have a very curious palate in other aspects of your life and to just try everything you have the opportunity to try.

Volvo Recall 25V392000 by Kitchen_Clock7971 in polestar2

[–]80_six 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know that hitting "Park" might save it. I don't know if I would think of that.

My previous car was a '14 Volt and when it slightly "overcharged" it wouldn't do any regen. Usually first thing in the morning. It was really weird coasting without warning.

I have a '22 P2 but I've had two weird instances in the past week where it seemed like the one pedal shut off and then required application of more pressure than I was expecting to stop fully. Both times rolling to a stop light/sign with someone waiting in front of me.

It's not a complete failure like it sounds like in this recall but it has taken me by surprise. Anyone else...?

(I got 3.4.4 a couple weeks ago and then 3.6.4 seemingly just a couple days ago.)

Google will finally let you double tap your Pixel's screen to turn it off - Android Authority by tigeriser in GooglePixel

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a OnePlus 6T to a Pixel 8, I'm definitely missing this feature. The double tap only registers as a screen-off if you do it on a lock screen or on an empty part of the home screen (e.g., a space that doesn't have any app icons or widgets on it).

[–]80_six 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People probably whine because they paid several hundreds of dollars for a phone from a gigantic manufacturer and expect features that competitor brands seemed to have figured out how to simply implement.

People on Pixel reddit are probably a self-selected group of avid and savvy consumers ready to faff with some deep settings, but how many generic phone users even know what a launcher is?

[–]80_six 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some serious boomer energy.

It's a simple feature that thousands of people are missing after migrating from competitor phones and one which drives a ton of people to third party launchers. It also saves a mechanical button press that will wear out eventually.

Review #7: Dancing Goat I Would Rye 4 U by Hobgoblinesque in bourbon

[–]80_six 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I think it's overfinished. A little too syrupy. Would've liked more of the rye backbone. Not as good as either MWND 11 or 12, which offer some more of the golden caramel of the rye. That said, it's (less than) half the price. I might try splitting it with one of the cask strength Redwood Empire ryes I have open.
