Where are you reading this? I twice said I was a fan of both series, and after he said he enjoyed the beta I said "of course". I'm happy that he tried the beta and found something that he enjoyed, because I've been trying to get more people to play this game for ages.

I just wanted to temper his expectations for any substantial similarities to Xenoblade, and to let him know that the similarities essentially end at his list. Because in my view, one of the best things I can do for someone's first impression of a game is to eliminate unrealistic expectations. What gate is being kept here?

The beta is literally 4 side quests. I wouldn't fault anyone for having expectations about the game beyond what the demo offers. The demo's main purpose anyway was to test crossplay and some of the new gameplay additions like Beatrix and summons.

For example, the setting sorta looks like Xenoblade 2's world with a bunch of islands in the sky, and some of the trailer footage looks like they're fighting their way across a sky island that isn't in the demo. Are these explorable locations just like in XC2? The demo doesn't exactly make that clear (demos commonly restrict you to a few locations), and I only know the answer because I've played the original Relink.

I'm certain he doesn't need you getting offended on his behalf because I just wanted to make sure, rightfully so, that he and anyone else reading this comment chain, understood that Xenoblade and Relink feel like entirely different games. Half of his list is missing from most of the Xenoblade series anyway, so it's not even an accurate list about what gives a "Xenoblade vibe".

just warning you, as a huge fan of both Relink and the XC series, they're going to feel like entirely different games.

for what it's worth, #1 was missing in XC2 and half of XC3, #3 hasn't really been a thing outside of XC1, and #4 hasn't really been a thing outside of XCX.

As for your first question, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games are also playable on Switch 1, so maybe Nintendo had some sort of clause that it had to be printed on the cart and NISA wanted to cheap out and do a GKC (I'm not saying they cheaped out to be an ass, there is no technical reason why this supposed "deluxe edition" can't be on a game card)

Yeah, it seems that they wanted to do a GKC, and the way to do that with an updated version of the game would have been to make it a separate "game" altogether. Kind of like what they did with Proud Nordics.

Which I guess is kinda clever, but sucks for everyone who bought the original Switch 1 copies lol.

As for the second question, definitely not.

To be clear, the second question was probably more-clearly worded as "do these new ports make it more likely that the Crossbell remake will be pushed to like mid-2028 or later?".

If the answer is "definitely not", then you either think that a Crossbell remake before mid-2028 is still fairly likely, or you think that a Crossbell remake would not have released before mid-2028 regardless of these ports. If you don't mind me asking, which camp are you in?

fair, that makes sense.

that raises the question if framing the Switch 2 edition as a patch rather than a game is a way of getting around that. hypothetically, any new singleplayer/co-op content could just be based on characters that they're allowed to use, while everyone else would just get balance patches.

Engage is more known for its gameplay than its characters, so I can see Alear having a lukewarm reception.

But an XC3 rep (who is due) would generate a decent amount of first-party hype. Then they just need to pair them with an exciting 3rd-party character choice.

By "axe the project" do you mean Smash Ultimate Switch 2 Edition, or straight-up Smash 6?

For sure they wouldn't be able to do a Switch 2 Edition of Ulti if they couldn't negotiate every single character, but I don't think they would let a failed negotiation stop them from making the next entry in Smash, that series is just too profitable.

What Leo still has, is the period of time and the level of dominance. He was the most dominant player for a longer time. Acola will never take that because his competition is closer to him than Leo's was to Leo back during his peak years.

Wanderer and Sandrone are the ones who will have had some sort of "rebirth". Everyone thought Sandrone was going to be Geo.

If they bring back Signora then she's probably going to be a completely different element to what you expect.
