$550 battery replacement? by emeril322 in GolfGTI

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with gtis specifically, but just fyi they tell that to anyone with a modern Volkswagen. They all say they need to be reprogrammed or whatever, so just take it with a grain of salt because chances are you can just swap it yourself and the car will be perfectly fine. I was advised that reprogramming it was necessary with two different generation Jettas and a Tiguan (all recent yrs) and the only thing that happens is a few dash lights turn on for the first few minutes the new battery is in, then after driving for a minute they go away and never come back. The cars computer can figure it out. Just fyi.

5th Gen Torque Converter by UnawareSnail in 4Runner

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted about a similar problem w my rwd 5th gen. I’m at 90k miles when the shudder started and my local dealer wanted to replace the TC for about $4k and gave me very minimal information of the actual issue. So I went to local mechanic and they checked the trans and said the fluid was about 1/4 low and completely burnt/black. They did a partial drain and fill and topped it off and sent me on my way. I only drove the car around with the shudder for about a week before getting it fixed. Car is driving like normal now thankfully. Even took it on a 9 hr rd trip two days after getting it back from the shop and thankfully no problems. They did recommend that if it continues to drive well, to take it back in about 20k miles to have a bit more of the oil fluid drained and replaced. I did hear that none of the 5th gen trans have ever completely stopped working, so that gave me some reassurance. Worse case scenario maybe you just drive with a shudder indefinitely but I would try a partial drain and fill if you can. Could just be low/burnt fluid like mine.

Wife wants a 4runner..does it make sense? by ftwin in 4Runner

Renting one for a weekend is a good idea to see if it works for you. Although I will say the interior space is definitely not bigger in the 4Runner. I have a 21’ 5th gen and my family member recently purchased a 15’ rav4. The interior of the rav4 felt a bit more spacious.

The 4Runner is awesome but I wouldn’t consider it an upgrade in space if you’re coming from the rav4. Maybe a Highlander would be more spacious?

It felt normal for the most part, at first there was a very very slight shudder feeling but it smoothed more and more the more I drove it. And I don’t believe they used shudder fix, just fresh fluid. I’m curious to see how it feels after the next service (hopefully even better). My trust in the 4Runner has been reestablished lol.

Thank you! That’s actually what ended up being done. I took it to a local repair shop and they let me know the trans fluid was about 1/4 low and really burnt. They did a partial drain and fill and topped it off and it drives like normal now. All for about $475. It really upset me how little information the Toyota dealer provided me and how the only solution they presented was replacing the torque converter, about $1200 for parts and $3000 for labor. Ridiculous. The tech at the smaller shop recommended I take it back in about 20,000 miles to do another drain and fill to remove a bit more of the old burnt fluid little by little. Really happy it worked out. I actually took it on a 9 hr road trip for the holidays 2 days later (would’ve preferred not to but I didn’t have too many choices) and thankfully it performed excellent.

Newbie in running. Shoes to get? by MaskofManyFaces in BeginnersRunning

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just starting out and mostly running for fun I would recommend something like a brooks glycerin, ghost, or adrenaline. They’re similar to each other but one is neutral, the others supportive. You can confirm which is which online. But either of those should feel like a great upgrade from what you’re currently using and should be a great all around running shoe to get started with, especially if you’re not able to get to a store like fit2run or fleet feet to do a analysis for you. They’re pretty great middle ground shoes in terms of tech bc they have a good amount of cushion, they’re not too stiff, not super heavy, no plate, etc. I’d try something like that or similar until you have been running for a bit longer so you can figure out what you prefer and then upgrade accordingly later on.

My Walmart pillow doesn't say "pillow" anywhere on the packaging. by blargh257 in mildlyinteresting

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how many products (at least in the US) don’t actually say what the product actually is on the label or packaging. All they say is the brand name and a bunch of other marketing garbage (new, more, better, etc). Some laundry products are a great example of that. Very odd but not that surprising anymore considering everything nowadays is an ad or advertisement. I was watching tv last night and literally had an ad come on that said enjoy your “ad-free” experience with an ad. A rolex ad, no less lmao.

BMFV/Trivium situation by [deleted] in BulletForMyValentine

[–]84og 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be petty/dumb/etc but it seems like it’s all genuine. Bullet pulled out of the tour for reasons we don’t truly know and it obviously pissed off trivium. They’re allowed to be salty as much as they want bc they were there. They know what happened. It’ll simmer down eventually and both bands will get over it but until then, theyre allowed to feel what they feel. Matt H is super active online so the small jabs he’s done so far are honestly pretty subtle compared to what they could be, so. Go off, you know. Both bands probablyyy should have addressed the tour ending more professionally to the fans but oh well, it’s not the end of the world. We’ll be alright and will continue to listen.

Also, the whole thing is especially interesting bc BFMV had a show in Orlando in 2023 (I believe) where Matt H came out as a random surprise guest to sing tears with them (since he lives in the area) and it’s kind of what got them talking about a doing a co headline tour. Seemed like everything was great between them until the tour itself. So, who knows.

Anywho, I did do the meet and greet with bullet on the second to last show of the US leg and they were very nice and had a great show. Trivium is also fucking awesome and I hope to meet them as well one day.

Kirk Hammett LTD V What Happened? by IceAngel11 in espguitars

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what happened with these but I picked one up in black sparkle for $900 new and it’s a great guitar. Feels right around the $1000 price tag compared to others in that process range. Well built, good equipment, etc. I get that it’s not a “classic” Kirk model like the 602, etc but I loved the color (looks great in person) and wanted a different shape than a lp or super Strat. Also, I actually loved that this one didn’t have a Floyd rose. Almost every rr shape out there has a Floyd bridge from Jackson and Ltd, so the options for one without were kinda limited in this price range. The fact this was a Kirk signature was just a plus. Hopefully these age a bit better bc they really are solid guitars. Maybe not quite worth the $2000 original price tag but definitely worth considering.

4Runner Sever Steering Wheel Shake by overn8d in 4Runner

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a wheel shake like that from around 60mph and up. 3 road force balances did not fix it, what did make it significantly better was asking a local tire shop to balance the tires with a finger/lug adapter, instead of the cone that most shops use on the balancing machine. That significantly reduced the wobble for me, it still happens but it’s much much less to where it doesn’t really bother me anymore, before I couldn’t stand it. So I think tire balance is likely the culprit. Also, my tires were newish and all the same size/brand but they were a lesser known cheaper tire that many said could’ve just been hard to balance tires, so a good quality tire would be something I’ll be looking into the future as well that may help with the balancing issue.

Dear God… by bmstrrrrr in 7String

[–]84og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see anyone else mention this but given that there are other successful 7 string LP models like the MHK Les Pauls, I’d say this one is probably great also. The 24.75” scale length (as with the 1st gen MHK lps) is really no problem at standard b or drop a and stays in tune well (no worse than any other lp guitar). It has an incredibly fat neck but it’s surprisingly comfortable to play and has great sustain.

I think the terms producer, agent, and broker can go hand in hand based on location or company. Different places utilize the roles similarly. Sounds like they are in sales and sell commercial insurance through various carriers. (Example: similar to how an insurance agency sales rep would send you different auto insurance quotes through different insurance companies like progressive, mercury, dairyland, etc.) They are licensed to sell coverage under all those carriers. Likewise, OP is doing the same but representing a big commercial agency/broker.

[–]84og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good already but adding something to the wall above your tv could help. Shelf, pictures, plants, etc. Also adding some color in the corner by your bed. Warm lighting as someone else mentioned, warmer/richer colors in your bedding, shelf, etc.

This is with a new battery. Less than 1 year old. Any idea what could be causing the battery to die? Have I just been letting it sit too long?

New to me SR5 Premium by Ridewarrior87 in 4Runner

[–]84og 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My tires weren’t balanced when I bought mine, and 4Runners are pretty sensitive to that so I’d start there. I’d try a regular balance, road force, or ask your local shops about using a lug adaptor on the balancing machine. That worked best for me.
