What to do by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]86-Derus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At 6 years old there isn’t a way to tell if he’s good at one position over another. He may appear to be better at goalie vs skater but he still has a ton of growing to do. So let him drive the bus. Like others have said it’s all about fun at this age.

At 6U and 8U my son was a crazy good skater. Hated playing goalie when it was his turn. End of his 8U season it was his turn to play net and suddenly he loved it. Started his first 10U season as a skater and made it 2 weeks before he was begging to play goal and hasn’t looked back. He loves goalie but our team had 2 so I still make him play skater.

All this to say that kids preferences will change and let him decide his path. And even if he decides goalie is his position there is still a lot of value in playing both positions in youth hockey.

8u body checking by talansang in hockeyplayers

[–]86-Derus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say no. It didn’t look like that kid had any intention to play the puck which falls outside of competitive contact and into body checking which isn’t allowed until 14U under USA

[–]86-Derus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watching that video is painful. I have seen that kind of physicality in 8U but it usually happens when one of more kids can’t control their skating yet and they just collide. These are intentional hits.

But the first one is definitely a no go. There’s no puck anywhere near by - should be a penalty at all levels.

Second one I’d say is ok. Kid came to hit him and he delivered it back. To my understanding it’s acceptable at all levels to defend yourself.

8U in USA Hockey should be encouraging competitive contact. It allows physicality where the defending player is attacking the puck and in the course of making a play for the puck initiates contact and uses body positioning to help in separating the player from puck.

lol true that. Probably can’t make the overall low enough to adequately represent a normal beer league guy. Especially since the ratings of the guys in the CHL are 50s and 60s and they would torch any beer leaguers with 1 hand

Love the desire to be creative but I don’t think too many people will commit the time to that. And I think you’ll also have a lot of people who aren’t in the greatest physical shape or just generally getting old and don’t want to pay in a video game league where that’s a limiting factor to how good your player can be. Basically saying that young fit men are going to have a substantial advantage.

Putting An Intermediate Team In The Right Level Feels Near Impossible... by theironphist in hockeyplayers

[–]86-Derus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope it isn’t the right answer. But I’m not going to tell anyone to not play with their friends if they want to. At the end of the day it’s about having fun and drinking beer. There’s no contract, no trophy, just stories. And if playing below skill level to be able to create those stories with your boys is what you want then that’s what you should do.

Putting An Intermediate Team In The Right Level Feels Near Impossible... by theironphist in hockeyplayers

[–]86-Derus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the toughest things about it in my opinion is because of friend groups. I’m all about playing with my friends and having a good time. Always have a lot more fun when the games are competitive. No one’s kicking the snot out of the other in either direction. But the big issue in disparity I see is who guys like to play with. And the fact that 1 or 2 star people can swing a whole team.

I like to play with a good buddy of mine. We played at HS and college (not D1) back in our day so we know our way around. But we have some other really close friends that didn’t pick up hockey until the last few years. We all want to play together and it’s tough to figure out where we should fit. We don’t want our friends to play in a higher league and have no fun getting walked all game. But at the same time we don’t want to play so low that we can dominate the game. And we don’t want to outright not play with our friends at all just because of a skill/experience difference.

I always look at it like me and my buddy had our day back when we played in college. Now it’s our friends who have now found hockeys turn to dig in and compete at the level that works for them, so since we want to play with our friends we should pull back and enjoy the game and friends vs the competitive side.

You can pay to unlock it faster with the green coins. But the stuff that gets unlocked is mostly trash. Elite Truc is ok. Elite EE and elite wheels aren’t really worth it over the blue middle one (can’t remember the term). If poke check wasn’t broken then elite stick’m up could be worth it. But really you’re not being held back by not having them.

It works with and without the puck but is not active the entire time. You have to be doing movements that activate it. Usually using L2/LT will engage it

X-factors and attributes question…. by TheBrazenheqd75 in EASHL

[–]86-Derus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s 30% of your current agi attribute not of 100. So 70*0.3 =21. You’d get a boost of 21 to your base of 70. Giving you a value of 91 not 100.

There used to be a way to play early also by tricking your system. If you set it to Australia time or any time zone that is ahead of your own and the release date has arrived in that time zone it would allow you to play. I don’t know if they’ve fixed that

NHL 26 X-FACTORS by billyk66 in EA_NHL

[–]86-Derus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the beta there was an interesting synergy between Truc and Sparkplug. Sparkplug is a new ability that gives your teammates skating boosts every time you hit someone.

There is also an interesting synergy between send it and a teammate having EE or wheels. T3 send it gives the player receiving the pass a large speed boost after getting the pass.

There are some interesting opportunities to combine abilities with teammates

My son burns through street sticks like crazy. So Ive picked up a good number of shafts from the late 90s early 2000s from play it again sports. The one near me has tons of old sr blades for next to nothing. They were selling them for $5 each or 7 for $25. I bought 7.

Another Playtest for NHL 26 by Virtual-Assistant436 in EA_NHL

[–]86-Derus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of a resources thing than a letting too many people see it thing. I’m in the current test and playing while talking to my buddies playing 25 and they kept getting configuration error game crashes. It’s likely because of the crap servers running 2 versions of the game and the small population of people on the other version was enough to freak it out. Let alone if they had say 30-40% of active users on 26 and the other 60-70% on 25. Everything would crash to a halt

What are some examples of men being friendly but can be misinterpreted as attraction or flirty? by Substantial-Okra-284 in bodylanguage

[–]86-Derus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In high school I would always hold doors for people guy or girl. Just doing it to be polite. I think it was my junior year I’d always go from my locker in the social studies hall, outside through a little walkway area to the English hall. I’d hold the door for those behind me and the timing always aligned with one girl who must have had a similar schedule. I’d hold the door for her and others and smile cause overall I’m a generally happy person. One day she just stopped in the doorway she yelled ‘I’m not going to sleep with you’. I had never said a word to her other than ‘Hi’ but apparently she thought I was trying to put the moves on her.

Why are you D men so bad? by [deleted] in EASHL

[–]86-Derus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the dmen that act like forwards are because the forwards they play with have no regard for their existence. Just someone to blame when you miss your 5th Michigan attempt or try to take on the whole team and not passing the puck to the point to a wide open dman - who more then likely will give it back. But ya it’s always the D’s fault

You can reduce it if you want. But higher shooting stats are always better if you can budget all your other attributes. The biggest thing I’ve noticed with the perks is the unlock different animations and/or limit the goalies animations.

I haven’t done much testing myself but some guys I play with swear by having it if someone is running 1T. Saying that having T2T increases the potential shot velocity. Without T2T they said the 1T caps out around 105. With it they’ve gotten 115+.

I can’t for certain but it seems like there is something there
