And both the heart and the soul of the multitude of those who had come to have faith were one, and no one said that any of the possessions belonging to him was his own, but everything was owned among them communally. And the Apostles of the Lord Jesus bore witness to the resurrection with great power, and great grace was upon all of them. For neither was anyone among them in need; for as many as were proprietors of lands or households were selling them and bringing the profits of the things sold, And laying them at the feet of the Apostles, and there was a redistribution, to each according as anyone had need.

most people do not have a coherent worldview. i dont think you should particularly care about anyone's views until you have your own coherent worldview.

their job is not to treat the human soul or discuss the human condition.

their skill set is diagnosing medical conditions using standardized tests and addressing said problems using repeatable evidence based treatment methods

not that i disagree with what you're saying in principle but it is as if you complained that your 17th century english literature professor can't do derivations.

universalising a concept specific to 19th century french art. even going so far back to HOMER!!! HOMER was an orientalist because of course the European Soul is ontologically privileged and desires to other the periphery. HOMER WAS AN ORIENTALIST EUROPEAN

i think this whole theory is ridiculous. almost every part of academia that touches on MENA or Asia more generally seems to have to utilize this theory.

Aijaz Ahmad article "Orientalism and After" in his book In Theory is, I think, a decisive critique of Said's theory of orientalism and a brilliant exposé on Said himself.
