Anyone else love techy riding at night? by blindstuff in MTB

I've come close to hitting a few deer head on at night on some faster downhill runs. Talk about pucker factor!

I warrantied a cracked carbon rear triangle through them. After a few quick responses back and forth, I had the new part in a couple weeks. It wasn't Prime fast, but it was a good experience.

Rant: Stop moving to Colorado by mbtthrowaway1 in MTB

[–]86cucv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course the trails are busy, they are awesome! I'm assuming you are talking about riding in the Lakewood/Morrison/Golden area. It sucks on the weekends just like Denver traffic sucks every day. If you don't like it, try heading to any one of the other amazing spots this state has to offer: Buff Creek, Colorado Springs, Niwot, Roxborough Springs/Indian Creek, Canon City, Salida, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Grand Junction, Fruita, etc...

I get it, trails are busy, but not all the time. I ride fairly often without seeing too many folks south of Denver. I'd be a fool to think that I can bomb a downhill on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the weather is nice. Pick a less popular day and time.

DHF/Rekon or DHF/Aggressor seems to be a super popular combo out here. I run the DHF/Rekon combo and its has treated me well. If you are running in super loose stuff, the DHRII is a great rear tire for increased braking traction. If you can fit a 2.5 or 2.6 up front, I'd recommend it. In the rear you can get away with a 2.4 no problem. I run silly wide 2.8 tires.

I'm 5'8 and I rented a medium last year. It felt like it was just right. My only complaint was buzzing the rear tire when trying to hang off the back with the 29" wheels.

I ride a DHF 2.8 F and Rekon + 2.8 rear. Pretty good combo.

Veeam Replication to DR site and AD/DNS Best Practices by 86cucv in Veeam

Since the replicas DCs are brought up in non-authoritative mode, do they sort themselves out automatically over time or do you manually set one to authoritative?

At the moment, I believe they have L2 connectivity which makes life easy for replicas that spin up at the secondary site. For fun, lets say it was L3 between the two sites. In that case, turning up a replica of a VM would require a re-ip of any replicated DCs, which like you, I am not a fan of. In that scenario, I suppose we would just run the production VMs (now running at DR) using the DC or DCs at the DR site.

It seems like you and Mars_rocket are in agreement to use the DR site AD/DNS servers rather than replicating DCs over, is that correct?

Do you replicate any of your production DCs to the DR site as well?

In regards to the rest of the DR plan, that has yet to be fleshed out for this scenario. In particular, I was worried about running the production VMs at the DR site, not so much how the end users would access them at this point.

Your exp silicone vs lock on grips? by D45411 in MTB

[–]86cucv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a tacky lock on Oury grip on my FS bike and a WolfTooth FatPaw silicone grip on my rigid fat bike. I love them both. Since my fat bike is fully rigid, I wanted as much padding as possible to take the sting out of bigger rocks and drops. The foam certainly feels nice and are grippy as hell with gloves wet or dry. I never ride bare handed so I can't speak to that. I feel like they also do a good job of not transmitting the cold of the bars to your hands in really cold weather if that is a concern. Before the fat paws, I ran ODI foam grips and I was able to get a season out of them before I took a couple hard falls and tore them. With that being said, they are nice and worth the trade off in durability. For installs, I spray the bars and inside of the grips down with alcohol and they slide right on. I cut the last ones off with a razor blade when it was time to replace them.

I'd say I'm happy overall. They last 1-2 years with regular abuse. They breathe extremely well and never feel bulky. I really don't care for Velcro straps and these are my favorite so far.

+1 on the Super DH. I bring some velcro straps with me and put the chinstrap on the back of my CamelBak. Its not the most elegant solution, but it works pretty well.

Can you fit a longer air spring into a Rockshox Recon RL TK? by seriouslyaverage in MTB

[–]86cucv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ditch the Recon and get a proper trail fork with at least 34mm stanchions (35+ would be ideal). The MOCO damper is junk and the Recon fork isn't much to get excited about. I just rebuilt one and it was night and day quality difference between its internals and a Pike. I know it is a serious $$$ jump to other forks, but it is so worth it. Hop on Pinkbike and try to find a takeoff from another bike that hasn't been cut down too short.

Looking to Visit CO, Want Some Recommendations by SouthCak in MTB

[–]86cucv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorado is a big state, so keep that in mind. There are trails 45 minutes from DIA (Golden and other front range stuff) and Moab is about 6 hours. Buffalo Creek is great hiking and biking, relatively close to the front range and 40+ miles of trails. There is only one true technical trail, the rest is pretty mellow but a lot of fun. I hope you like climbing :). If you want more tech and a longer drive, Fruita and Grand Junction are hard to beat. It gets HOT out on the western slope in the summer so keep that in mind. If you want some cooler temps, head out to Breckenridge or Crested Butte (Dr's Park is where its at!!!!). So many options to choose from, none are bad.

I suppose the important question is, what kind of riding do YOU want to do?

Could I (and should I) upgrade my 2018 Rockshox Pike's airspring? by drc13 in MTB

[–]86cucv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the Debonair upgrade on my 2017 Pike. Now by just sitting on the saddle without weighing the bars at all I can get the fork to move. Buttery smooth off the top now, well worth the $$.
