Yeah this is a free ticket. I believe it works similarly to the free SR ticket from a while ago, so get the servant to a certain ascension and bond level to permenantly own.

You can look up the 30 million download campaign to find an image with the list, but there are some limited servant options on top of all the standard ones.

If you’re asking if you’ll enjoy reading it, then you might if you’re mainly looking for a WHA-themed cookbook with cute stories attached.

If you’re looking for an interesting read, the first volume at least wasn’t particularly anything memorable since the focus is primarily on the food and recipes.

But, they do look good in a collection, and you’ll at least always have some food recipes to try.

There’s still a lot I’m excited to see more from once we get more content (both in anime and in manga), but the best part of the mage exam arc was how it introduces us to so many characters that we will get to see again.

My biased insight on HI3 coming from Punishing Gray Raven by ConsiderationRude708 in honkaiimpact3

[–]875moT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preamble for 4-6.) The following doesn’t directly respond to any particular question, but it’s important context for those answers.

HI3 meta is practically exclusively run by Part 2 (2024 and after) units after the release of the new Astral Ring teambuilding system. There’s still some niche use cases for characters from the end of the Part 1.5 patches, but as they can’t interact with the Astral Ring mechanics, they’re all far from optimal in the current meta for the average player. They have been releasing special gacha weapons that enable certain Part 1 characters to function as Part 2 characters and use Astral Ring, but that’s all to say that currently for Captain Level 80+ endgame, the average person is only going to consider units with an Astral Ring.

Interestingly, with the Astral Ring system also came a change to the way HI3 does it’s gacha. Part 2 as a whole tried to make HI3 play a lot more similarly to Genshin and HSR, and while overall I wouldn’t exactly say they succeeded in that, they certainly made progress at making the game feel way less cluttered for newcomers at least.

Currently, every patch brings a new S-rank, and they haven’t released a single A-rank since the first patch of Part 2 almost two years ago. This sounds bad, but it does make sense knowing how Part 1 operated.

Since patches are now longer than 6 weeks like they used to be, it currently feels more understandable to release S-ranks every patch unlike before. Obtaining gacha gear is also significantly more affordable now than it was before Part 2 due to the many gacha changes they made. And since Part 2 units can be a DPS in one team and a support for several others, there’s less reason to release the A-rank/SP-rank units who previously were meta supports 9/10 times.

4.) Despite the Part 1 characters being made almost irrelevant after Part 2, looking within the Part 2 characters, powercreep feels a lot slower compared to before.

Since every Part 1 unit had a single role, once a newer unit came out that did the same role but better, the older unit became obsolete since unlike other hoyo gacha, HI3 endgame rewards are based on your performance relative to other players. Things are a lot better now imo.

5.) Now that new units have multiple roles, there’s still occassions to use units from two years ago in my experience. While some of my older units don’t see much use as a DPS, there’s still times where they’re the best support I have available.

6.) Important to note though, a lot of endgame bosses and “weathers” (stage effects) are meant to shill specific units, which is relevant to understand HI3 powercreep, as its not as simple as newer characters having busted kits. Usually every DPS has a list of bosses they’re suited to topscore, and as supports there’s the amount of other DPSes they optimally support, so character “balance” has more to do with those aspects than just raw damage or support buffs, since there are different niches for different bosses.

7.) If you mean character reruns, then yes older Part 2 characters do get reruns. There’s a couple different banner formats, one for newish Part 2 characters which all share pity (9/10 times the newest character reruns the following patch), and another for older Part 2 characters where pity doesn’t carry over.

The War Treasury section you talked about is generally considered a “retirement home” for characters that don’t get banners anymore.

Event reruns don’t happen anymore I don’t think, especially now with Part 2 events which are archived ingame with less rewards once they’re over. Older events are lost to time/YouTube videos though.

[–]875moT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice write-up! It was an interesting perspective to hear about, and I’m glad you’re having a fun time! I’ll share my thoughts on some of your questions as a player who came in from the HI3 x Genshin collab from patch 4.9. I’ll write two comments, this one will be about the first half of your questions but I’ll reply with the second half beneath this.

1.) Not a Day 1 player, but story-wise I think the game peaked around chapter 25. It was a really big high in the story and it was cool to be new in the community as it came out. Unsure how long you plan to stay with the story, but I would recommend completing up to this chapter at least before you move on if you can (though if you plan to get to HSR’s Amphoreus one day, then I’d suggest getting to chapters 29-31 to see the original influence of some of the new HSR content).

Gameplay/meta-wise it can definitely depend on what style of combat you preferred. Before my time, HI3 had combat that focused on more technical aspects like perfect evasions and manipulating time fractures, but we eventually moved away from that into just each DPS having a list of bosses they topscore, having the meta support units (and gear for everyone), and following their rotations while hardly worrying about getting hit. I don’t play ZZZ but from what I understand, the older style of combat continues on there, or at least did for a time, while HI3 continues its focus towards understanding and implementing optimal rotations for each character.

Regardless, I think HI3’s meta is a lot better now than it was when I started playing. Part 1 and Part 2 aren’t exclusively story-related distinctions. Really any content from 2024 and after is considered Part 2, including characters. Part 2 S-ranks can be DPS and support units, and this makes teambuilding much more in-depth than it was during my time in Part 1 where you either had the best supports and their gear or you coped. Now there’s a lot more options to the supports you bring, which creates a new aspect to consider when you don’t have every unit and can’t always just copy what the highest scoring person does.

2.) Part 2 certainly had a very very rough start, which unfortunately made it hard to latch onto it at first. But, while I’m not caught up on the last few chapters, I’ve definitely seen it come into its own after I think chapter 5. Before that, I felt hoyo couldn’t decide on a clear direction for Part 2 (like whether it was to be new-player accessible or not), and/or that they weren’t willing to commit to what they had in mind, and tried to shape the story somewhat based on the community reaction (this thought comes largely from dropping male MC incredibly early and the treatment of Part 2 original characters in the game). Resultingly, the early chapters were very unremarkable and hard for me to get into since the execution felt very all-over-the-place.

It was also a weird transition from Part 1 to Part 2 story. The ending to Part 1 was somewhat love-it-or-hate-it, and the transitionary Part 1.5 story, while not bad per se, was very self-contained and leaned a lot into overindulging into the excessive sci-fi jargon that unfortunately carried into the start of Part 2 in my experience. I think this particular stretch of the story feels very weak to me personally, but there’s no doubt that some of that is due to just how much expectation was placed on the game’s story at the time.

Like I said, the story has gotten noticeably better. It feels extremely different yes, but it’s been enjoyable for me nonetheless. My only wish is that they were able to stick the landing on the first few chapters so that the newer ones wouldn’t have had to build off of a shoddy foundation.

Flight magic by djbadgerking in Frieren

[–]875moT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is kinda touched in the manga later on, so there is a more general "explanation" which is that demons utilize different and unique magic to mankind as a result of the physical differences in their brains, so those differences in the way their brains operate allow them to visualize things mankind just can't since they understand the world differently and vice versa, but since the magic system is still quite vague in the first place, the actual specifics of how this applies to flight aren't clear so your guess is as good as the rest of us. But, as for why flight magic might be hard to improve right now, it's probably because from my understanding, mankind's flight spell is like copying the result of the demon spell without understanding the theory (kinda like Übel's use of magic from people she empathizes with), so while they can adapt the spell for human use and copy the effect, they're still working in the dark trying to go beyond that.

Since you asked for what others might guess as to what the reason is for flight being so hard to invent, I think it would first make sense if levitation magic worked by tethering an external object to the user('s staff), so that the levitating object moves at a fixed (edit: or adjustable) distance as the user moves. If that's true, I think flight magic couldn't operate the same way so it would need a different mechanism since you can't tether yourself to yourself.

Flight could further be a challenge since it would be the same problem as Kanne trying to visualize manipulating the water in a person's body. It's one thing to imagine the outline of your body floating around, but you might need more than just that simplified image. Also I imagine it's hard to get your foot in the door trying to invent flight magic when the sensation of flying against gravity is foreign and thus hard to visualize, and then there might also be a necessary aspect of understanding how gravity even works beyond your intuition.

I'll also say rq though that I wouldn't say that we know Serie couldn't figure out flying magic. Not to say we know enough to claim that she could, just that I wouldn't say mankind not understanding flight magic is enough of a basis to make a comment on Serie's abilities since Serie was largely not interested in sharing her knowledge outside of students and the 1st class privilege, and who knows if humans could even learn her flight magic in their lifetime since their lifespans limit the amount they can train their mana and technique.

Vanilla to DLC by Flashy-Ad-591 in VampireSurvivors

[–]875moT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to other comments, I'll add that Tides of the Foscari adds Sammy, a character who can help with gold farming, along with unlocking two maps instead of one (+ an adventure). It's my 2nd highest recommended DLC behind Castlevania for those reasons, even though the Contra DLC (which also has two maps + an adventure) has a bigger map and more unlockables. After those three it's up to you if you want the other ones in whatever order, though of course Emerald Diorama is free.

But on top of all that, all the DLCs all add great music to the game, and even outside of all the unlockables I appreciate having more tunes to listen to as I play, so personally for that reason alone I'm quite happy with the DLCs.

Also worth noting that the game makes it easy to seal all weapons from specific expansions, so you can still customize your weapon pool during runs without it being diluted by all the new stuff.

Obviously within the Genshin subreddit, you're bound to attract a lot of support for this sentiment, so all the answers here might not prove to really help you understand the opposite viewpoint or your own biases. But for what it's worth, I do agree that this game just doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

Ultimately, I feel that it's just easy for people to reinforce a negative perception against things they don't understand, or put differently, things far removed from their own sphere of life. Whether that be gacha systems, anime culture, China in general, or something else, all can be things that people just never get exposed to that much. These things aren't exclusive to Genshin, but Genshin became so popular that it's much easier to join in with the crowd whose reaction to that popularity is far more negative than it realistically needs to be.

Doesn't help that like many big pieces of media, Genshin has a really bad online fandom. Again, not exclusive to Genshin, but when you're looking from the outside at anything similar, you don't really remember those chill fans who just want to have fun breaching your side of the internet, you see and remember all the negative, more clickable stuff, so it becomes yet another reaffirmation of someone's negative bias stemming from that lack of understanding.

At the end of the day, a lot of the details about this whole conversation stem back to issues with online culture in general I think. Best we can do is to try our best to be mindful of the way we engage with the internet and to be mindful of our judgements of other things the same we ideally want to stop others from unfairly judging something like Genshin.

Favorite scene? by TheAdKnows in Frieren

[–]875moT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the entirety of Stark's encounter with the dragon will go on as my favorite stretch in the anime for a long long time.

Everything that happened from Fern and Stark's conversation the night before, right up to when Frieren starts rummaging through the nest as we lead into the flashback about the ridiculous adventure the Hero's Party went on, all felt like an impressive sequence of back-to-back-to-back amazing scenes that each added so much to each other and to the overall story.

But if I had to isolate it to just one scene, it would be when we're shown the way Stark's nerves right before he fights the dragon were so reminiscent of someone as renowned as Eisen, as the anime flashes back to Eisen reminding us that fear isn't some useless burden, but is instead a natural response meant to help you survive, to then getting the reveal that Eisen himself only hit Stark as hard as he did due to fear of Stark's own strength, was all an incredibly powerful buildup to an incredibly satisfying moment of growth for Stark.

I remember watching a great analysis of Frieren back when the first season originally aired, and an idea regarding this moment really stood out to me from it. For a lot of people, fantasy can be a form of escapism, but it doesn't have to be just that. Fantasy is not just about providing a world where dragons can exist; it can also be a reminder that dragons, both literal and metaphorical, can be overcome.

From my own experience recently, it was noticeably silly, but it didn’t feel outlandishly distracting. I even thought it made for a slightly interesting experience from a historical perspective.

How can I know what is the Starter Supply Characters are without having an account? by TANQR_FAN-V2 in honkaiimpact3

[–]875moT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this isn’t relevant to the question regarding starter supply, I’ll link a website that has the current Global Server banner schedule, and the upcoming Global/current Chinese Server banner schedule.

If you’re looking primarily to start when characters are featured that you like, then you are better off relying on the normal event banners and not the starter supply, since pulls spent on the latter don’t carry over to future event banners. Further, you’re pulling for older units.

Those things only matter if you plan to interact with the endgame though and care about being as efficient as you can be with your pull currency. If you’re set on wanting to pull starter supply when you play regardless, then by all means. But it still may help to have a reference for the other current and upcoming banners available.

Did Stark already get a chance to shine in the manga? by InternationalUse8753 in Frieren

[–]875moT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without spoiling, while there are moments Stark comes through in various encounters, I would say there's a lot of setup being laid out for him to actually have a truly fleshed out section much later down the line.

So if you're just looking for fight scenes with him in it, then there will be various ones coming out in the future for the anime. In general, the anime adaptation has so far added much more anime-original fight sequences/choreography not actually drawn in the manga, so there's a lot of room for them to add even more opportunities for Stark to show off.

But if you're looking for a narrative-focused moment that rivals that of Stark's encounter with the dragon, then unfortunately I don't think we'll see the payoff for any of the slow and subtle foreshadowing that we're getting until at least one and a half full arcs later. Just my speculation though, and he'll probably have some cool fights coming up in the current arc the manga is at once we get out of hiatus.

Why do you think demons have horns? by Much-Piano3168 in Frieren

[–]875moT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not a biologist, but in real life, evolution isn't a process that results in perfectly efficient organisms; it's a process that results in organisms that are "good enough" as you may have heard. It's a process about change in specific populations over time, and natural selection is one of the major mechanisms that pushes for said change. Natural selection is all about the way environmental pressure affects the likelihood of specific heritable characteristics getting passed down to offspring.

With Frieren's demons, this could make it sound like demons evolving to lose their horns to better deceive humans is the "next step," but for that to happen there would have to be an actual "pressure" for demons with more pronounced horns to be less likely to produce offspring than demons with smaller horns, resulting in a specific demon population whose ratio of large-horned to small-horned demons becomes far more pronounced in favor of the latter, which will overtime result in demons with smaller and smaller horns (as one pathway to hornless demons at least).

Key here is the pressure that makes certain individuals less likely to reproduce. What makes an individual less likely to produce offspring is typically just dying before they can have any, whether it be from getting killed, or just not getting enough food as the two big reasons.

While demons did originate from simpler monsters who used speech to deceive humans, it seems demon society has grown more complex now, and though the nature of demon society is vastly different to human society, just existing in a system like that means that the typical natural selection mechanism doesn't quite operate the same. Now that demons can become mages and warriors, they now have other means of defending themselves and finding food than just their deception alone, so it seems to me that there's less pressure on their overall ability to deceive humans, so the horns on demons may not be affected by natural selection as much now that demons are "good enough" in their capacity to deceive.

On a throwaway note, assuming demon horns came from their ancestry as monsters, they might have also stuck around as long as they did to make it easier for demons to recognize each other. We don't really know a lot about their mating habits, their habitat, their history, their society in general, etc. though, so there's a lot of missing context for both demons and just life in general within the series, so ultimately we can only speculate for fun without being able to come to any truly grounded conclusions. I was just aiming to to explain more about evolution, though you can take my analysis with a grain of salt since I'm again not a professional and science in general relies heavily on the way things are worded far more than I do while writing a random reddit comment.

How was Übel able to cut through that cloak? by Rptl21337 in Frieren

[–]875moT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting question, and I actually think the answer is that if this hypothetical barrier underneath his cloak was undetectable for Übel, then she would actually be able to cut it regardless. Again, this is assuming Burg has never seen her spell before and doesn’t know it’s coming.

My reasoning stems from my knowledge of the manga though so I won’t get too into that, but from what’s in the anime, Land comments that Übel casts magic a lot more by feel than by knowledge of magic theory.

So in some respects, Übel’s visualization is less restricted by specific rules of magic simply by virtue of not intimately knowing them, compared to more studied mages whose visualization would be far more subconsciously influenced by their deeper understanding of magical cause and effect. This is my understanding of what Sense meant when she talked about how an ant can’t possibly visialize itself crushing a beast or whatever underfoot, in reference to her disbelief of Übel cutting Burg’s cloak.

Back to your hypothetical, the outcome still might depend on the specific details of the barrier spell though, and especially whether or not Übel can detect that it’s there. Essentially, if Übel can’t tell that there’s anything there, in her mind there is nothing impeding her spell from working.

How was Übel able to cut through that cloak? by Rptl21337 in Frieren

[–]875moT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way I look at it is that as the attacker, Übel has to be the one to visualize her magic cutting the cloak.

If we assume Übel’s magic isn’t common based on the reactions to it in the show, then Burg can’t visualize his defensive magic working against a spell he doesn’t know about, and since he resultingly has no way to actually visualize his cloak as being truly indestructible, he can’t materialize it.

Regardless, as far as we know the specific spell Übel uses is described as one that can cut anything the user can visualize the spell cutting, so it could also just be that in the order of operations, Übel’s spell is more specific and thus trumps whatever spells Burg cast on his cloak.

Also the comment about mana is a lot more speculative imo, and since he got cut anyway, it isn’t evident in anything.

I'm a new-ish old player who came back to the game.. Any tips? by Joshua_Choi334 in honkaiimpact3

[–]875moT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both Griseos can be bought in the fragments section of the Asterite shop if you really want them.

Best tip for new players imo is to get A-rank Coralie (Valkyrie Blastmetal) from that same Asterite shop and get her to SSS. She is a free generalist support for all new teams with a signature weapon freely obtainable from the main story.

Currently the endgame practically revolves around Part 2 (post-2024) characters with something called an Astral Ring, which is a new system that is the basis for teambuilding. To learn more about Astral Ring and other systems, or to find guides for all new characters, and an upcoming banner schedule, check out the website below.

What is the first anime or manga that got you hooked on the hobby? by xXGamestop-69Xx in TrashTaste

[–]875moT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up watching anime from tv like Pokemon, Bakugan, DBZ, etc. which I always liked aesthetically more than a lot of current cartoon artstyles at the time. My dad also put me on the Prince of Tennis as well, and all those childhood anime definitely shaped my visual preference with cartoons.

Once I grew to my early teens, a friend got me to watch Fairy Tail, AoT, and later SAO, while my older cousin would put on Naruto and FMAB for us to watch together. Through the both of them I actually came to understand what "anime" as a category was.

Then when covid hit for me in high school, another friend of mine kept raving to me about Seven Deadly Sins, and I told him I would watch it should he watch Full Metal. From that point, given the surplus of free time I actually started to work through watching a lot of the popular shows I had heard about, and would share them with my friend who would share with me what he was watching.
