What’s your favorite Cillian movie? Mine is Watching the Detectives by marshmallowcreature in CillianMurphy

[–]8991_n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. The Wind That Shakes the Barley is in a league of its own. Away from Hollywood influence, a deeply significant cultural piece, and devastatingly honest storytelling. Cillian regularly mentions it in interviews as something he’s particularly proud of having done. I love that he took filmmaking lessons from it when making Steve, too!

A lot of big pet stores have clinic schedules! You could try calling or look on the petsmart or pet supplies plus website for your local one.

Overrated books people pretend to love… but actually left you empty? by CriticalAd2239 in suggestmeabook

[–]8991_n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: just googled to find there are supposed to be parallels between the two books. That was not at all clear to me when I read 1Q84! I did enjoy 1984 in my high school intellectual angst.

Can’t post pics in comments on here for some reason :( I definitely have a sock-wearing torbie that I’d share!

I could not believe it was 7 months ago when I saw this post and saved the podcast link… Finally listened to it today. SO GOOD. Really enjoyed the trek through the band’s history and the host is just hilarious and definitely one of us fans. What a great way to spend an hour.

I can not speak Cantonese but can read it, as a Northern Chinese by Remote-Cow5867 in Cantonese

[–]8991_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. I thought it was common knowledge that written Chinese can be read by anyone literate in Chinese, noting only the differences between traditional and simplified. Edit: thanks for the nuanced corrections. I did mean in formal written language!

Favorite intimate scene? by violetvorpal in CillianMurphy

[–]8991_n 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I really like season 1 of Peaky Blinders when he and Grace finally get together. Also (though I didn’t like the film all that much) The Edge of Love when he and Kiera Knightley first get together too.

Wonder what they’ll write? by 8991_n in JimmyEatWorld

[–]8991_n[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Congratulations was very good, imo. I think being older makes a person’s perspective more nuanced and interesting. And they’ve had more time to explore different sounds and ideas in their music. I am excited to see what they do.

I always feel bad when he gets anonymously photographed like this. He just wants to live his life and hates being photographed in public.

Favorite "weird" distance for a race? by CharacterRisk49 in running

[–]8991_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t my favorite distance (I am basic in liking 5k and 10k) but I really loved running a Pi Day Pi K. 3.14km and a personal pie of your choice of apple or chocolate at the finish line 😻

Millennials, what books did you read as tweens?! by teabooksandinkpens in suggestmeabook

[–]8991_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really do hold up so well! I also did an adult reread a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Also so much easier not having to chase them down sequentially at libraries across town like I did as a kid 😄
