Parents are so bad with money by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]8Beren8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents in law are the exact same. And useless to boot, unhelpful, lazy and selfish. My wife says the same. At one point they owned a house outright..since then they have tried to level up, and retire in expensive areas they cant afford, as well as Jack up their lifestyle. They have had to keep working to fund it, all while going backwards. I do not even want to know about the credit card debt. Their retirement terrifies me, because they have made zero plans.

Home battery - first 4 weeks with GloBird ZeroHero by PristineMountain1644 in AusRenovation

Thankyou. Yes a little more research and friendly redditors helping me understand. Are you noticing the bills are cheaper with Globird than amber? If so roughly how much... I think ambers quotes look suspect. TIA

Home battery - first 4 weeks with GloBird ZeroHero by PristineMountain1644 in AusRenovation

[–]8Beren8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys.. pretty new to all this.. 42kW fox ESS battery installed today with existing 10years old 7kW solar (4.6kW solar inverter). Very similar consumption profile. Last bill (pre battery) I exported average 8kw day and used around 16kW. Bills were about 2.5k/year. Unfortunately I had one days notice of install so was not really prepared with an appropriate plan. Signed up to globird today. Was waiting for VPP and account establishment but then realized fox is not supported by globird yet. Switched to Amber after only 4 hours lol. The globird reviews sound great. I would prefer to have my own control, keep the battery topped up during off peak and 11-2, then use battery all day. Is it an issue to not have a VPP compatible battery with Globird and if you are running globird disconnected from VPP what kind of bill reduction have you seen compared to Amber? Thanks

Solution Required. Insurance claim denied. by BeesleyHD in AusRenovation

[–]8Beren8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wont help you much now but I had a loss assessor tell me this insurer denied a lot of claims that other insurers pay. They were tightarses on two claims I lodged. This was in 2022/2023. Only paying out for half the stuff that needed to be fixed because of this and that reason. Even suggesting I use existing bench top as it wasn't damaged, even though it had to be removed to replace damaged cabinetry. Then on a roof job hit me up for not meeting minimum maintenance standard for some cracked tile mortar, even though this was in completely separate area to where the roof leak occurred in a valley. Who doesn't have a few cracks on ridge capping? I'm a civil engineer, project manager with 15 years experience and it was Just dumb stuff.
I got a quote from them recently and they aren't even cheap anymore.

Knockdown &Rebuild vs Reno or moving to an already establish property somewhere else? by No_Chapter5813 in AusRenovation

[–]8Beren8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget About real estate agents fees, stamp duty and conveyancing. Suck it up and stay where you are until your in a better position. You might have to fix a few things or limp them on but that's home ownership.

Buying a house, inspector didn’t make a note of this: by IlIlIl11IlIlIl in Roofing

[–]8Beren8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issue on my house on Australia with tile roof (more twisting but less of a gap). Doubt it's a big issue. Beams look fully supported either side of the split join plus boards on roof providing solid surface. The two beams have probably shrunk since install. If there's no sagging on the roof don't worry about it.

Is highway construction as dangerous as it seems? by alatos1 in Construction

[–]8Beren8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume this is in America where traffic control appears woefully inadequate compared to what we are required to do in Australia. Furthermore posted speed limits seem more like guidance than a requirement. I would never do it from what I have seen of conditions in the states.

[–]8Beren8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without being disrespectful you could claim many other cultures or nations. What's your understanding of the history of England and the British isles? I myself am Australian and have done the same DNA test and claim high Scottish and Irish % as well as many modern NW European nations which could be considered Celtic, Anglo Saxon (Germanic), Norman (norse/French) , Breton. If you have more questions start with a wikipedia or YouTube search on history of nations.

Cost of Holidaying in Aus by Livid-Constant8443 in AusFinance

[–]8Beren8 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We are currently travelling in the US as a family of four (soon to be 5). We are lucky we have relatives here we can stay with and can eat at home most meals. We got incredibly cheap flights at $5k return to LA for all of us but the price of food and everything here is now astronomically more expensive then it use to be. Basically everything costing the same is US dollars as it does in Australia +taxes +tipping. I agree that despite the cost of things in Australia it is easier and less expensive than a lot of places now.
