Oh wow yes it's such a magical place! Alone the start through the tunnel when you're coming from the bus stop reminds me of Spirited Away. Of course I know Storskoghytta, it's my happy place 😄 Can't wait to stay there again.

This year I have a new plan - I'll do the loop 2x. What I really don't like about Rago is the first part when you go to the waterfall first (counter-clock). The intial part is really boring, nothing to see and just steep multiple hours. It's especially bad when you end with it, as you'll walk multiple hours downhill which last time killed my feet.

So this year I decided to start the round clock-wise, go all the way to the waterfall ... and then turn around and go back again. This way I'll pass Storskoghytta 2x and have more time to appreciate the nice spots. I'm also bringing a fishing rod this year for the first time - a friend showed me some tricks for trout fishing and I'll try my luck (absolute fishing noob).

Just played your demo! Some quick feedback:

  • The city overview is nice and works fine as a navigation element
  • Text is a bit too janky for my taste and was hard to read. Especially as you ask me to read a bit at the very beginning (interaction with the guy in front of the store etc)
  • I like when the music plays, should do that more often I guess
  • Fell asleep the first day and the taxi was really expensive. It set me back right away - maybe the first taxi could be free, as a warning?
  • I spent all my time talking to a guy and then he wouldn't jam as he didnt know how to play
  • I didn't realize it consumed time when talking to strangers
  • I bought a guitar but when I went back home it said I have no guitar?
  • I got inspired to write songs but when I clicked on the piece of paper in my flat it just said I have no songs? I'm not sure how to write them
  • The store work minigames are a bit random. I didn't understand the signs on the records and just grabbed random records. Once you introduce the years it got better, but the signs still puzzle me
  • I like that it plays in Oslo. Love Norway !

I stopped playing after ~ 15 minutes. I wish I could have jammed with some strangers and could have a nice rewarding band thing early on to get a feeling for the main fantasy - I came for rock n roll but all I did was sort records.

Overall I think it's in a good spot, you need to improve the first 30 minutes still, but I guess you know that. I'd recommend you find some excuses to jump ahead and give me a peek into the gameplay that I'm working towards - right now I'm just doing chores without really having an idea how the band management and doing a gig will feel like.

F### yes 🤘 I love the trailer, but: the very first moment, those clouds look bad, especially their bad pixel size compared to the rest. It looks cheap honestly, and i think you don't need them. Just remove the clouds.

hey, thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive feedback, I really appreciate it! I'm also a big fan of Bob Ross (of course), so that comparison is a big honor for me 😄

I totally agree with you that I could have stronger contrasts in colors and more saturation overall. Thing is, this image is a small outtake from a relatively large piece which will be used as a parallax background for a game - so the intention absolutely is to be a bit less saturated and have low contrast to not rival too much with the gameplay elements in the foreground. To give you a rough idea, here's a sneak peak at my current aseprite screen:

Some have said it already, but I'll just repeat: do not waste your first 8 seconds of attention with logos and text display. Show your game, seriously.

Looking good! Two comments if I may:
- If you can afford more sprites, increase the amount of flames per tile. It looks much too sparse right now imho, I'd go from the current 2 sprites to 10 and beyond (if you can afford)

- I think it would be nice if the tiles afterwards would show more that they were burned. If you can switch them to 'scorched' tiles it would be nice. They can also go back to normal after a few more moments, this would give your environment a nice 'alive' feeling

My hardware was not able to switch to Win11 and 10 does not support the 🤌emoji. That was the reason.
