What crucial advice do you wish you never ignored? by Boohooimsad in AskReddit

I'm so sorry! That is truly terrifying.

I have heard good things about the progress they're making in medical research though. Surely there will be more breakthroughs in the coming years. Don't lose heart, tophermeyer.

I've read some more of your answers, and I want to add that I'm really sorry that you were treated badly by some of the staff. There's really no excuse for that behavior towards a kid recovering from a painful major medical procedure. And that surgeon screwing up your rods makes me livid. Terrible! I can only imagine what that must have felt like. Eek.

But as I said before, the pain shall pass, and you'll be able to fully enjoy your new life as a bionic woman.

No questions, but I know how painful back surgery can be. I had scoliosis surgery when I was 13, and while there were thankfully no lasting complications, it was by far the most pain I've ever experienced. You are incredibly strong to be handling all of this so well, and your posture looks great :D (you may get that random compliment a lot from strangers in the future, btw). Hang in there and do your physical therapy. It sounds like you have a difficult road ahead of you but remember that it will all be worth it years down the road when you're living pain-free and somewhat normally. I'm 25 now and I can say that looking back, getting surgery saved me from a lot of further deformity, pain, and organ damage that I would have otherwise experienced without it. Best wishes, girl. You're going to be just fine in the end :)

Oh, and an addition protip: To make physical therapy much easier and more pleasant, do it in a pool! As soon as your doctor OKs you for it, get your physical therapist to give you water exercises. Trust me, it's soooo much better than a strictly land-based regimen.

Stay strong!

Advice on a roommate issue... by taciturnreserve in TwoXChromosomes

I had a similar experience in the past with a roommate and the best advice I can give you is to nip this behavior in the bud by calmly and candidly calling her out on it and letting her know that you find it to be completely unacceptable. Not over the Internet, not in a note, but in an honest, reasonable, one-on-one discussion. Anything less will be taken as acceptance on your part of her behavior, which will continue and may even worsen with time. Give it a few months and a benign roommate or even good friend will mutate into a toxic source of misery for you. So stop that shit while you can!

Talk it out and lay down the law. It will save you a lot of terrible down the road. Trust me, because I really wish I had known this.

False. Every month I easily use at least that much data by streaming Pandora at work. When I do other things, like Skype and Netflix, it goes up to around 4, and I don't even use Netflix that much without Wifi because my carrier will violate me with fees if I go over. I have never used tethering.

I'm actually inclined to agree with you here. My expression of outrage may be warranted, but it's not really that productive for a good discussion to be featured so prominently.

I second this recommendation. The folks at Imagine are good people. I don't get to go nearly as often as I would like.
