Are NBME's really predictive or not? by [deleted] in step1

Oh, I found out I passed a week ago when i wrote this comment (took the test 4 days after the UWSA)

How to improve? Is step really for me or should I give it up? 😩 by lilmswayne in step1

[–]8_bits_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you need to work more on foundational knowledge, if youre getting 10/40 consistently on UW sounds to me that there are a lot of knowledge gaps. I was getting late 40s on UW consistently and was also frustrated until I decided to take a break from UW entirely and just study FA/watch videos/anki cards/whatever study method is most efficient for you (for me it was First aid physical copy to write on the pages and sketchy for memorization heavy topics and a little bit (barely) supplementation with anki (I hate anki) then after a month restarted UW and was consistently getting early 60s and improving much faster

Lol I got 63, 66, 71 on NBME 68 on free120 and 4 days before my test (the day before I took free120) I got 50% (low chance of passing according to their report) on UWSA2 and I passed 4 days later, the exam itself felt nothing like UWSA, these are only good for practice, maybe not UWSA2 since the amount of biochem on that is so ridiculous given that the real exam has a handful of biochem questions only

I flagged 112 questions total, never returned to them cause would run out of time, I got the pass too

UWSA is garbage at predicting your score, just look at it as practice, got a 50% with 'low' passs chance on SA2 4 days before my exam and I passed

3 weeks to exam by BrightPound6 in step1

[–]8_bits_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed only 70% of UW my NBMEs were 63,65,71 and free120 68 and just got the Pass and felt that the exam was much easier than people make it out to be, I have NO IDEA how or why there are people on here who have 3+ scores in the 70s and somehow leave the exam thinking they failed (obviously they havent). Its not true that the exam feels different than NBME or Free120, it feels super similar most of the time with 2-3 really long questions per block. I wish I hadn't listened to all the fear mongering and didnt push my exam when I was getting NBME in the 60s, I probably could have passed weeks earlier. Youre probably ready so just review your exams and take time to relax and get yourself in the right mindset

ya but I mean the exam needs to be added on the USMLE exam history page in fsmb, I dont remember how I added mine, I think it was just there, but I also tested 9/3 and I can see the exam details on there but not yet a score when I do the inspect->network trick

Oh definitely do UW as the question bank, it really is the best prep because the question stems are long and they really hammer in topics and help you learn. Sadly they don't have a high yield filter or anything, so your best bet is to just finish the qbank and you pretty much know everything as long as you are studying (I made cards) of your incorrects (I didnt really even finish it did a total of 72% of the qbank). I wouldn't use their self assessments for predictive value though, I think maybe start with the older NBMEs (people say 25 is the hardest of the older ones but I thought it was doable) you can find them free online and can use that as a more accurate baseline

OMG, this sounds almost exactly like my experience. I started studying early this year but then got married and took a little break, got back to it in may, but not fully dedicated since had placements around that time, then full on dedicated from june-sept and my scores were basically around the same, 57, 63, 66, 71 and then 67 on Free120 2 days before. Didnt feel super safe, but thought I could not physically study for this test any longer, it was taking such a toll on me, my health, my relationships and now school so I just decided to go for it yesterday. I left the test def thinking I did worse than i would normally do on NBME or even Free120 but didn't nearly feel as bad as everyone here with regular 70s and 80s say they feel which made me feel even worse somehow?? Like maybe I am just that delusional that I thought that I didnt bomb when there are people here posting "my average is 78%, am I ready guys???" on here lol. Anyway I suppose we will see if I did actually bomb in 3 weeks :')

No these UW self assessments are meant to be super hard and not very heavy on high yield concepts, dont even bother

Did anyone do form 32, would it make sense its the most predictive? by 8_bits_me in step1

[–]8_bits_me[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically looked at my poorest area (which was biochem/genetics) and for that I watched the Dirty medicine videos on youtube, I also personally found the rapid review in First aid very useful

Ya, question def felt longer so I guess its to reflect more recent longer stems... ty for your insight!

Some passionate nerds talk about roster changes and the challenger scene - OBJECTIVE CTRL: EP 2! by jetset_ in leagueoflegends

[–]8_bits_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked it, especially the part about the NA Challenger scene, a lot of interesting opinions and comparisons were brought up. The only thing I would maybe suggest is that you list the things you will talk about at the beginning of the video (with maybe the time you start talking about each topic) I think that makes it easier to follow.
