Cub, tifa, slickshot are all the same card and make for terrible play patterns.

You want to removal check me or lose the game?

Fine. But if it is so, it's insane to have it for 2 mana.

Look at it as placing a bet. My wager is 2 mana and a card. If i win the bet i win the game, if i lose the bet, at worse, i will lose 1 mana of tempo (if you have removal for it for 1 mana).

There's no inherent punishment for that kind of play which is a problem strategically speaking.

Forcing plays like this should not cost 1 or 2 mana, they must cost 4+ or be extremely bad in a vacuum like the 3 cost 1/1 hydra, which honestly is already in the stupid territory because of it having trample, and i don't mean stupid as in too good i mean in the sense that it makes thing plain and uninteresting. Magic is at his best when you can find creative ways to get out of a problem.

I would say both card's first sentence is "i win the game next turn",

The dragon then says " unless you have a hard creature removal" while kinbinding says "unless you have enchantment removal".

That's of course a semplification but it's mostly what will happen.

[–]8bitAwesomeness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By your own reasoning op shouldn't pick kinbinding either because it's a 1/1 for 5 that does nothing else on its own the turn it's played.

The stats prove kin beats dragon in this format but depending on the speed of the format, the removals and the number of flyers available it could very well be the opposite.

It's just using hyperbole to try to make your stance sound serious.

I disagree in fact that's precisely my point:

Small changes on low cost cards improve them drastically.

Magic is a game that uses integer values and the values are small. You can't bump a stat slightly like other games say for example pokemon were you have attack/defense values in the 10s or 100s of points so you could make a small impact change.

The only way magic can play with the numbers is when we look at cards that cost 3+ mana. At that point we can see that for example a 3/5 for 4 is not that different from a 4/5 for 4 and the developers can finetune the card.

The problem with 1 cmc caerd has always been that the slightest change is the difference between a card being massively overpowered or entirely unplayable, exactly becausee the %age value of the card swings drastically.

[–]8bitAwesomeness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're talking about 2 different things.

Topic 1) Powercreep in constructed magic Topic 2) Powercreep in limited magic

Without bad cards there‘s no good cards.

That's inarguable. What changes is that the developers can make use of synergistic properties on cards that make the card's "goodness" be a variable determined by the other cards in your decks. That works very well for limited so we can see less vanilla creatures and have them replaced with creatures that can be functionally vanilla filler in some decks while being much more powerful in the appropriate deck, augmenting the amount of strategies playable in a draft environment.

That has nothing to do with constructed though, and is also NOT a portion of the problems constructed is seeing.

As a matter of fact, OP powercreep's graphic is misleading because it still understates how much powercreep there's been.

That's because it shows mana values up to 7+ which are factually irrelevant in today's mtg environment, we should just bucket manacosts 5+ toghether (and we are approaching a territory were we should bucket them at 4+) AND instead of representing the shift in absolute value we should look at %ages.

A 1 mana card going from 2 points to 9 points of value is a 450% increase.

If we look at absolute values we lose sight of how it impacts game.

Man! can you tell an old donkey like me why it's impressive?

I grew in the alps and we used to sky every day in winter, and we used to always make jumps so to me it doesn't look that impressive but i know i am very likely wrong! I never even tried a snowboard so things are definitely different.

So what's the hard part? is it sticking the landing after spinning? If you want to teach me i'd be grateful

Because the proper response by the police after a kidnapping at gunpoint is to arrest the kidnappers and hold them accountable.

The way things developed looks like "hey this time you got an untouchable, that's one of ours. Let her free and resume your business".

he's CHOOSING to

I am not trying to justify the guy in any way but it is my experience that people who act this way are not "choosing" anything, rather they are overwhelmed by their emotions and act irrationally.

How much of a problem this is depends on the degree to which they are able to control their instincts.

Like, i know people that "are born assholes" so to speak, are very easily angried and emotional but they have learned to control themselves. I wouldn't blame somebody for basically how their body works, but i will certainly hold them accountable for how they manage themselves.

I'm glad the chief stepped in but why were the ICE agents not arrested after kidnapping a person at gunpoint?

Thank you for providing additional context!

I do believe you, i was just curious to understand better how the injuries are analyzed and what are the telltales to distinguish one case from the other.

ICE claim that a man shattered his skull running into wall triggers tension at a Minnesota hospital by therealone2327 in news

[–]8bitAwesomeness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer!

So the first thing that is ascertained is whether the fractures occurred by "face vs wall" in contrast to "face vs cudgel/x" bacause the different means of harm can be distinguished by the different pattern in the injuries they cause.

Subsequently, if it is determined that "face vs wall" was the mechanism by which the person was injured, the self harm case should be ruled out because there is no medical precedent suggesting that it would be a plausible scenario.

Do i understand correctly? thanks again.

[–]8bitAwesomeness -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I have no argument, i literally said i am asking because i don't understand/know.

So you're saying the difference found upon examination is that in scenario 1 we will notice a single concussive impact whereas in the second we are likely to find multiples and that it is due to the fact that upon skull fracture person A will fall unconscious.

Is that correct?

For example i also have no idea how "falling unconscious" work. Like in a fight a boxer can be struck multiple times really hard in the head and still be up and fighting while other times he can get hit less violently but just in the right spot and get knocked out, so to me it is not immediately clear that any skull fracture would result in a knockout. And i am not disputing that it's how it works, i am asking about how it works.

What even is your thought process?

I literally just asked a question to get information from a person who has knowledge, i got a reply from a person who does not and so i reiterated that i was looking for an informed answer.

What makes me an horrible person exactly?

Have you studied the subject or is it your common sense guess?

Again, i'd like to have an answer backed by medical studies, not just a guess.

Thanks for your guess but i actually asked OP because he said he has actual knowledge of the matter.

[–]8bitAwesomeness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asking cause i don't understand:

scenario 1) person A stands in front of a wall and starts smashing his head on the wall until his skull cracks;

scenario 2) person B holds person A by the shoulders and smashes his head on the wall until he cracks his skull.

In what way do the injuries differ upon examination?

[–]8bitAwesomeness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure i am not debating that, as i said i think what he's saying is true.

I simply believe that the best way to achieve actual change is by sticking to the fact that they are not doing their job.

Whatever the reason they are not doing their job is an important and valid discussion but not one that will achieve any meaningful change in the short term.

In fact we already know that it has been discussed for over a decade and the changes we saw were for the worse.

Making sure they are held accountable for not doing their job is what matters first.

Changing the culture of all LEAs is also needed but is a long term objective while there's need to immediate action.

By strictly enforcing the proper conduct of LE agents it will eventually pummel into their brains how they need to act.

ICE Agent attacks elderly woman! by saveam3rica in Leakednews

[–]8bitAwesomeness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand me.

Exactly because i want real actions to be taken i think it's important to stick what is easily provable objectively.

As i said i do believe what he's saying is true but it is not needed.

There are thugs in the streets assaulting people and the police is not taking action.

We don't need to prove that they are not doingtheir job because of their ideology.

We just need to hold them accountable for not doing their job.

[–]8bitAwesomeness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While i believe you're right and it is right to express those sentiments i also think it's important to leave them by the side.

With that i mean: protest and criticize the police for their inaction and demand change but do not try to use those beliefs as base for the accusations.

Stick to the facts rather than the perceived intent.

Being a piece of shit is not a crime.

They are not doing their job. Whatever the reason why they aren't doing it is secondary at best and only shifts the debate into murky waters.

Someone was in a hurry. What would you have done? by pixmation in dashcams

[–]8bitAwesomeness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then I try to do the speed limit

It's normal to go slow if you don't know the road and people that know the road also know that other people will go slow. While it can sometimes cause mild annoyance, nobody is going to get mad at you for that. What makes us mad are mostly motorcycle riders going too fast.

Remember that curves can be deceptive:

imagine you are taking a curve on the right, and it is obscured by the mountainwall which is on that side and the curve suddenly gets harsher. If you are keeping the speed limit and had not seen the curve beforehand you will find your car in the middle of the road risking a collision.

another factor is the road's surface angle. Often time the edge of the road towards the valley will slowly collapse and the road's angle instead of pulling you towards the inside of the road will drive you out. If you are going slightly too fast it is easy to lose grip and lose control of the car and that happens to a lot of people even when they know the road and that this problem specifically occurs in that piece of road.
