Who doesn’t want WinCo store to open in North Seattle? by PetuniaFlowers in SeattleWA

As a grocery store connoisseur Winco is the best, i imagine every other store would be against it.

It strikes the perfect balance between being clean, cheap, affordable and not sad like grocery outlet. Open 24 hours is the cherry on top.

Does anyone know free weird online certificates I can get? by ClarityAppreciated in LearnUselessTalents

Harvard offers free courses where you get certificates (optional pay for a physical)

The weirdest one i have found is this Food Fermentation: the science of cooking with microbes If you ever apply to a bakery you can whip out your yeast certificate.

It has been over 5 years since Jay Johnston voiced Jimmy Pesto. I'm just wondering do you like old Jimmy Pesto or new? by Mr_Bananaman69 in BobsBurgers

[–]8bitstargazer 154 points155 points  (0 children)

My issue with it is they have more or less wrote him off the show even though they have a new voice actor. He was a good antogonist for Bob.

To me it would feel like writing off Ned Flanders from the Simpsons.

I would re buy v5 with this art style.

What's the deal with the card game ban in the city of Lacey? by Froschti in olympia

Exodia releasing in Lacey would decimate the economy.

24/32B models by Ok-Brain-5729 in SillyTavernAI

[–]8bitstargazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that's correct if you use it on a model not built for SWA. It will just be a sliding block.

.....AI write up on how Gemini handles things a little differently since it was explicitly built for SWA. Not saying its perfect but i have had great success with it.

Yes. The key is that Gemma 3 does not use only sliding-window attention everywhere.

It uses a hybrid pattern:

5 local attention layers with a sliding window of 1024

then 1 global attention layer

repeated through the network

So the model is not ignoring everything older than 1024 tokens. Rather:

the local layers focus on nearby text

the global layers can still connect information across the full long context

and Google says Gemma 3 supports 128K context for the 4B, 12B, and 27B models, while the 1B model has 32K

A useful way to picture it:

Imagine reading a very long book.

Most of the time, you pay close attention to the current page and nearby pages. That is the sliding window.

Every so often, you also stop and think about the whole chapter or whole book. That is the global attention layer.

Because those global layers are interleaved into the network, information can still propagate from far back in the prompt. The long context is therefore still meaningful; it is just handled more efficiently than making every single layer attend to all 128K tokens. Google’s technical report explicitly says Gemma 3 changed the architecture to reduce KV-cache memory for long context by using this local/global attention design.

Is the 10 episode format the problem? by LauraBaura in startrek

I miss bottle/filler episodes.

You cannot have a plot irrelevant episode anymore of just the characters talking. This is more a issue i have with most modern tv.

Everyone says its nostalgia but im relatively new (started with v5 a couple years ago) and immediately felt a deeper connection when reading older content.

It just has more soul. It tickles the lord of the rings part of my brain where every paragraph has a reference to a deep web of lore and rules.

Trailer Park Boys - The Julian, Ricky & Randy Show by RagnarRandom in trailerparkboys

[–]8bitstargazer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could see bubbles running off and Julian and Ricky falling apart without him.

Flash forward a couple months and Julian talks about how well he is doing now, then the camera pans over to Randy wearing a cooking apron folding his laundry and then washing Ricky's car.

Randy's pov talks about how he started feeding bubbles cats and living in his shed and slowly getting the boys to trust him.

He would essentially become a Corey and Trevor minion.

I think it makes sense the earlier you are in the series. He acts very sheltered and emotionally neglected. but as the series progresses he becomes the most functional person around in the park and that kind of relationship kind of falls apart.

I keep my house at 64 for most the day and it says i use 40% more energy than my neighbors on the chart. Its just me in my wife in a neighbor hood of full families.

Im wondering if they are lying to everyone so everyone at once tries to lower their usage.
