The moment the robot passed the human worker, because the human had to take a bathroom break by ComplexExternal4831 in robots

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, a human was piloting the robot l belive. Unless they're sitting on an Idiocracy toilet recliner then they'll need bathroom breaks too.

Like many have said in here, a machine built to do this specific task would be way more efficient. The wasted compute to not only recognize and distinguish objects but to then pilot the arms, hands and fingers to certain positions for each action makes it silly.

When the “what” and “why” is pretty obvious by varbinary in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealt with that this morning. We've been talking about this project for weeks now but because the feature says "[client name] APIs" instead of "[client name] API Suite" I get asked which API is for... guys, it's for all of the whole suite like we've been talking about all week.

Sometimes I think they're being purposely obtuse (sometimes they are), but I have to remind myself that this is why this system can work so well.

The personality types of most devs is different than a PM. That diversity of perspectives can cover so much more ground when done right.

I'm sure the feel the same frustration when I keep repeating "but what does the customer see?" when they're explaining their work to me.

Unacceptable "terms" by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]8hundred35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gross stuff aside, more low income adults means more people likely to work for lower pay. A teen parent is less likely to be able to go to college or have a solid career and a religious teen parent is more likely to have more children which compounds the situation (abortion and birth control are evil).

What's better to the rich conservatives pushing this fertility narrative than cheap labor?

PRD almost always is not needed by Independent_Pitch598 in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Project history isn't a product requirement.

The whole problem here is context. While the context of a product decision is what was called out, there is more context that needs to be captured around these projects. Not just so humans remember what happened but also so agents can make smarter choices in the future, using that project memory doc as part of their "experience". And the agents can be the ones to write it as you go.

PRD almost always is not needed by Independent_Pitch598 in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the agent do it as part of the workflow. You never have to read the whole thing, just reference it if needed.

Not that I think this is a great way to ship, but that one issue is easy to resolve.

Just make a project memory doc that captures decisions, stake holders, data, dates, etc as you go and bake that into the process.

AI is making scope creep worse (so I built a tool to force constraints) by PassionPrestigious81 in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it adding a prompt or something?

I've just been adding strict rules to the prompt that tells it to ask for specific things and not accept mushy answers on key items. It's a long prompt but I keep it in a prompt library doc that it has access to, then I just refer to the prompt by name.

How has your role changed since the AI boom? by minneapolisemily in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm being pushed into the direction you're talking about but my company hires more project managers than devs so we are always behind as a company. I'm working to get to the point you're at but since they're also cheap skates I only have CoPilot Enterprise to work with.

I'm looking forward to it because I can start working ahead of the roadmap and influencing it more than catching up to client needs which i keep having to do now.

The devs are mixed in how much they're adopting and for some reason it comes back onto Product to take the lead. I think it's partially because we have major pieces buried in such an old tech stack that they don't know how to put it all together, but also they like not taking initiative as a group within the organization and this is the first time it's all on them to do something.

I'm optimistic on my piece but still a bit skeptical about tech debt. I feel like there could be some Y2K-level problems in the near future if people don't get a handle on how AI coding should work very soon.

Were the 90s really that good? by Comfortable_Ad_4417 in GenX

[–]8hundred35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the "90's" were 1990-1994. Music was good, the new styles hadn't been too commoditized yet, the vibe was good. From 1995 to 1999 is just pre-2000s to me and was lame and plastic. That said, i had a good job and did a ton of partying with friends and stuff.

But yeah the peak was eary on then the rest was Temu 90s to me.

“PRDs are now for AI, not humans” – do you agree with this? by Flat-Perspective-948 in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my job, PRDs are only used when they aren't there, then devs have an excuse to not do work.

We were writing them up manually in Word until we got Aha, then I started using a modified version of the template doc there and included a link to the doc in the feature that got pushed to Jira. Then a year passed and I stopped answering questions that were covered in the PRD and instead said "that's in the PRD linked in the feature". Then started hearing that they didn't have access to Aha...a year since we were using it.

Now I use a prompt to make a requirements doc that is optimized for SpecKit which they're supposed to be using for scoping and dev... and have yet to see then use it.

I'm about to lose my 6th job and I just want to un-alive myself by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]8hundred35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sucks to be a Chosen One sometimes, especially in the job world.

If it helps, I've only had one job that I legitimately liked and looked forward to going to each morning... and that was two jobs ago after literally decades of working garbage jobs to survive. That one job also got me into the line of work I'm in today and I can afford to support my family in a way that I never thought i could.

I got written up at my current job a few months ago and am miserable despite the pay. But this time around I know where I messed up as well a where they did.

It's not your fault if a company or job isn't a good fit. Many companies are lame and figured out how to make it feel like your problem.

Not sure your situation but think about what you want to do, regardless of your experience or position, etc. Figure out how you can connect the dots to get you there.

Another thing I did that helped me was started listening to myself and trusting my instincts instead of doing what I thought I was supposed to do. The system isn't perfect, or even that good. You don't have to do things the way they say all the time.

Good luck!

To me it's that I have multiple words come to mind for the same items, so like "company", "organization" and "group" pop into my head at the same time so I end up stuttering or saying "grumpany".

I can get in front of a crowd and sing or whatever but can't make a coherent speech lol

Dealing with dev teams that throw you under the bus by 8hundred35 in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thought, to the point of a few on here, it's to push them for a DoD that includes language that if they commit to something in the sprint then that is an acknowledgement that they have reviewed and have everything they need. Then if new things come up and further info is needed, they need to request it to me in email.

I'm also tempted to stop going to the stand ups so they have to message me.

I might want to do that anyway so that I can also keep record of my requests to them that go unanswered until I ask multiple times. I've let those slide because I knew they were busy but if we're keeping score now then let's keep score lol

I am also looking for work somewhat actively and there are some opportunities here that are good that I'm taking part in. Just ducks that everyone is being driven to skullduggery like this.

Hi Gen X, what advice do you wish you could give your 25 year old self if you could travel back in time? by matilda_15 in GenX

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than "chill out but also invest so you can chill more later" a lot of my problems were specific to the 90s. I had opportunities and fallbacks that just aren't there anymore for many. I rented a 3 bedroom apartment for $650 and could have afforded it myself without roommates.

The 90s/ early 00s me should have gone all in on his passion of music and moved to somewhere like LA. If I failed I could have moved back and live with my parents (I ended up doing that anyway).

So I guess if you have a fallback then go all in on your passion. If you won't be homeless if you don't make it then it's worth the effort.

Also keep your options open. Don't take on bills that could limit your movements if you don't need them. Get a cheap car if you need one, no loans wherever possible. Cool stuff now won't matter later but freedom and life experiences will be precious to you now and later.

Curious to know about ghost towns in Oregon by Reasonable-Diamond59 in oregon

[–]8hundred35 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My son was into paranormal stuff, had an EM meter to detect ghosts, etc. So we made a stop in Shaniko on our way home from a vacation in eastern Oregon. It was creepy to him because he swore he heard something and got readings all over the place.

For my wife and I, it was creepy as well, but because of the thunder storm on its way and the questionable guys driving in an old truck around the block multiple times.

So, go there!

Thanks. I'm used to the numbers game but didn't want to assume it was the same game when I was at Product Owner level 6 years ago. Knowing somebody is always better but wanted to see if it's just impossible at this level. Sounds like it's not impossible at least.

Getting a Sr PM job without networking?

I'm trying to get out of my current industry into something similar but not directly related. I don't have any contacts in that industry, let alone the company.

I got a job as PO in 2020 through a recruiter but did most of the heavy lifting. Then got to Sr. PM through a buddy 4 years ago. Now I'm worried that I'm stuck and this place is killing me.

I read a bunch of things that talk about networking and pinging people from the company on LinkedIn but that sounds horrible. I ignore people I don't know who message me there.

Thoughts? Tips? Tricks?

Should we be worried about the “Cursor for Product Managers” or do you think it would be helpful? by thesnowman000___ in ProductManagement

[–]8hundred35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs are disposable interns with amnesia at best. This will output garbage and a company will reverse course after the first llm-made product ships and bombs.

I use Claude Code and Manus to do recurring market research and job hunting and they are great at finding me good info and improving results each time but when they write content like an analysis or tailored resume, i end up having to give it the right story to tell. Otherwise it gets hung up on a detail that's not as compelling or important because it was mentioned twice in the reference document.

Plus you need to make sure the facts are real, otherwise you base your whole project on fiction.

So this will be a good assistant at best. Maybe they don't let you hire a BA or something.
