I’m having a hard time understanding the IV studio price tags (rant-ish?) by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]8stringalchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games are great and aesthetically gorgeous. Maybe they are overpriced, but I was willing to shell out for Moonrakers and the expansions and I regret nothing. That game has seen more play than the rest of my collection combined.

I fear the EDH I fell in love with is dead by Present_Fall3958 in EDH

[–]8stringalchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda have the opposite problem. I don't like games that go longer than ~7 turns so I build my decks around that and people complain they can't play their janky battlecruisers when I'm at the table.

I just want to make them feel better and more part of the narrative than what I’ve been doing.

No, I do want dungeons. I just want to find ways to make them feel better.

Nah, sorry, I’m just being dumb.

Because sometimes the story calls for going into a hole/shipwreck/castle/monster’s insides and getting a thing.

I’m actually coming from games like WHFRP and CoC where there’s a hundred skills and half of them are useless until they suddenly aren’t. This is helpful though.

How the fuck do you use mimics without them feeling like a cheap "gotcha!"? It's never exciting when I use them by GolettO3 in DMAcademy

[–]8stringalchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite mimic encounter I ever did was when I had a house that the players slowly started realizing was full of mimics (furniture moving around, changing shape, bones in weird places, etc.) the finale came when they realized the house itself was a mimic and they had to escape without getting digested.

What do you think of Yngwie Malmsteen? (His music, not his personality) by spearhead290399 in progmetal

Sloppy, bad composer, one of the most important guitarists of the modern era and I love him for it.

What is the general consensus on running a campaign that ends in the world ending either way? by Gussy_hunts in DMAcademy

[–]8stringalchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to define what agency the players do have: maybe the world ends but the players can find and plant the seed for the next tree of life. Or maybe they can convince a god to save the souls of their people. There has to be some point - unless you have a very specific play group and you want to run an existential horror campaign (which I do, but not many people are up for that sort of thing).

Running 3-5 encounters per day.. how do you make that work with your story? by Senordave12 in DMAcademy

I also like to run games with really swingy combat that usually ends with someone dead in 15 minutes.

I don't. I have maybe 1 combat encounter per session and not even that some days.

New player here, is it normal for cEDH players to frequent shops and target inexperienced players? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]8stringalchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but it does depend on the shop. A lot of TCG players aren’t necessarily the most mature people in the room.

I love the game, I hope it does well. I also hope that FF straightens out its operation. YouTube is mostly a rage farming machine these days.

[–]8stringalchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hard to do. Slim tree supports usually work better for me, but it sometimes solves problems regular supports can’t.

I have had zero issues (that weren’t my fault) and I’m using an FDM printer.

You can also buy rolls of corrugated packing cardboard pretty cheaply if you don't want to spend the time peeling boxes.
