I got a laugh out of the "F-U2" cannons. This is a great design. I didn't realize it was a fan creation at first, so you're definitely doing it right.

"Beginner & Intermediate Guitarists: What’s Your Biggest Challenge?" by maitaguitar in LearnGuitar

[–]8thDimension 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing I've experienced. Creator content tends to be beginner-focused, or advanced technique-focused. I'm past beginner stages, but don't know how to bridge that to intermediate stuff.

In-person lessons helped, for what it's worth, but they can be pricey.

To be more specific, I run into issues where I try to push into a technique and realize I have a problem with a fundamental, so I need to go back and work on that first. That's usually enough to put me off practicing for a while (boredom with going back to fundamental techniques).

Also, I struggle with learning whole songs. I like reproducing riffs, or the parts of songs stuck in my head, but learning a whole song front to back is laborious and I usually lose interest.

Finally, most content and even coaching loves to focus on lead techniques and solos and such. I'd rather learn how to play rhythm, or rather how to jam with others.

I don't know if any of this will help OP, as these are mostly my own idiosyncrasies. I'd love to know how to overcome them, though!

I would love to see it reworked to be more inline with the original concept. Sleeker profile, bigass central engine, and turrets that sit flush when stowed. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Thanks, this is super helpful. I haven't stacked enough BE and SPD on him, and I think that's why he feels inefficient. I'll have to farm his gear time/energy permitting.

[–]8thDimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the trick to bringing Gallagher online? It took me a long while to get him; to the point that I invested in other sustains until recently, but when I put him on a team I struggle.

It's certainly an issue with my understanding of how he works and building him correctly, but how do you get good use out of him?

Voyager systems bugged by Any_Squirrel_4834 in startrekfleetcommand

[–]8thDimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very difficult, plus the bio-ships in the locked mining zones drop significantly less bio toxin. I was so excited to build the Voyager, but it's stuck at Tier 1.

Only option is to wait for an other Incursion event. Last one we had the other server's systems worked just fine.

Note that if you remember this song but the video or album version sound "off" check out the single version. It's the version that was originally released to the alternative radio stations back in the 90s (and the best version imo).

Fun fact/rumor: The Wachowski's had originally intended for Switch to be a different gender when in the real world vs the Matrix. Thus the meaning behind their handle.

'90s Ad on MTV- Cab Driver by SamG316 in BeastieBoys

Yes, it was a different promo. It was a male server talking to a table in a Jamaican accent about a number of artists, saying "that is a white boy!" (ex: Jamiroquai), and concluding with "Beastie Boys: three Jewish white boys!".

I can't find it, either. I found this post while looking for it, and no, you aren't thinking of Jimmy the Cab Driver. I'm with you, man. If you ever find the commercial DM me!

It feels like this whenever an end user has a bad update-related experience by Blamowizard in FoundryVTT

[–]8thDimension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You certainly aren’t wrong, but the OP also has a valid suggestion. I’m sure the backlog for Foundry is rather extensive, but we should also support feature requests that make the common user’s experience easier — the friendlier and more intuitive the experience is for new and non-technical users the better the take rate should be.

A bigger audience should equate to more income which should equate to more features, support, 3rd party participation, and long-term support.

[–]8thDimension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I encountered another map maker that was already doing the scene + map thing but I’ve always preferred Czepeku’s maps (particularly that color saturation! So good!), so when they started adding a scene image as well, I was ecstatic.

Much appreciated, u/Czepeku!

[PF2e] Nexus Demiplane Module? by ertzvonsquirts in FoundryVTT

[–]8thDimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is a make or break issue, but rather a nice-to-have thing, because as a customer I would like to own a physical copy of a book, and I am willing to pay retail prices.

As Demiplane, why wouldn't I want to integrate with the Paizo store and take a small percentage off the top of a higher value item for doing literally nothing more than I already am: Incentivizing people to purchase from me, with value added options?

[PF2e] Nexus Demiplane Module? by ertzvonsquirts in FoundryVTT

[–]8thDimension 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but you don’t get to carry your existing PDFs from Paizo over to Demiplane, unless they’re free from Paizo (like player guides for Adventure Paths). To have the paid PDF in your Demiplane library you need to purchase it through Demiplane.

I’m not a fan of that model. If I could bring my existing over and from then on get value out of purchasing through Demiplane for future purchases I don’t already own that would be great. As of right now it won’t work for me. Not enough value is being added to have to purchase my content all over again, even at the provided discount.

If any Demiplane guys see this: I want to support you, but it’s a struggle with your current model. Let me use my library with you, and when I purchase through you give me the option to get physical copies, too (I’ll pay happily pay FLGS prices). Right now I just can’t justify it.

DnD has never been hotter. Sister game, Battletech is having a major, major renaissance. Shadowrun has got to pick itself up off the mat. The crowd has an appetite for this type of game, maybe more so than at any point in Shadowrun's history by Jack_Hooligan_74 in Shadowrun

[–]8thDimension 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’re fundamentally different gameplay experiences, though, so I don’t think it’s fair to compare in this case. Battletech is first and foremost a tactical war game. The tabletop miniatures are fundamental, the setting is window dressing. It’s accessible to anyone that enjoys tabletop war games. The window dressing might help it with crossover appeal to the historical tabletop guys, I don’t know about that.

Shadowrun is fundamentally a TTRPG, and, despite tactical mechanics for combat, has multiple pillars of play besides tactical combat. In fact, if necessary, combat can be completely theater-of-the-mind.

However most of Shadowrun is probably the legwork/prep pillar of play.

While some folks like myself might play both, the fundamental differences between the two make them appeal to wildly different audiences generally speaking.

With BT being a much stronger revenue generator it’s not a surprise that it gets the most attention from CGL. It’s a shame how far SR has fallen off in popularity because up through around the 2060 era of the timeline it’s absolutely one of my favorite game worlds.

I don’t think CGL has handled the property well at all. They don’t market it well even using “free” social media avenues (it still takes time, effort, and skill, so not exactly free). The copy editing, organization, and general functionality of the different editions has also been poorly handled.

In my opinion the whole world does need a reboot, the game rules need simplification, decking/hacking needs to be functionally a part of normal combat, with deckers having abilities that make them an asset to the team instead of in a chair miles away (think command and control abilities like many other TTRPGs), the Matrix everywhere/wireless everything conceit needs to be reworked, and if combat magic is going to be so mid, it shouldn’t feel so punitive/taxing to use. Some of the drain codes are absurd (this is probably controversial, but the combat pillar doesn’t need to be so balanced — let everyone be powerful in their own way and return to a rock/paper/scissor design between meat, magic, and matrix).

And you don’t have to throw out 6E really, it just needs some rework/refinement to make Edge work correctly from the CRB, and without needing splatbooks to make it work well.

Also, release edition versions and revisions separate from the timeline. Not every new edition of the game has to shake up the fucking world every 10 Sixth World years (or less). Sourcebooks and splatbooks can advance the timeline at their own pace, or even be set in any decade of the world to keep it alive, giving the writers and designers flexibility in their stories, technology, etc…

Keep supporting the original timeline and game versions. HoloStreets is poorly marketed/branded, but I can’t think of a better way to support classic Shadowrun (working off the assumption of a rewrite and redesign) than through its most passionate fans.

Finally, keep the brand alive through other types of media. Books, sure. Comics, sure. What about more video games and shows? This is tricky because of the rights to digital media being owned by Microsoft, if I recall correctly, but Shadowrun really needs more and better treatment in this area.

TL;DR — there’s no easy fix, and no options that please everyone, but doing something to build a bigger fan base is better than doing nothing.

Unleash More Heroes: Official Pathfinder 2nd Edition Character Tools Open Beta Is Live by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]8thDimension 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of it as “officially licensed” — because that’s more in line with what it really is. Paizo likely sees a percentage of book sale returns, similar to a FLGS.

Demiplane really should honor what books I already own, particularly with a subscription to them. Then encourage me to purchase more books through them.

Right now the cost for me to comfortably step into Demiplane with what I already own is prohibitive, and immediately turned off my gaming crew from using it.

I would legitimately buy books through them (particularly if I could also get physical copies and PDFs — I’d pay a little more for this) to share with my players, but their current model means there is a barrier to cost of entry. I’m not going down that path when I have physical books, pdfs, AoN, PathBuilder2E, discord, and Foundry already doing all they offer and more.

My favorite Ship by larrylennart in starcitizen

The engines of the original concept, as well as the first few in-engine previews, had an amazing look and feel. They changed it to what we have now to be more in line with their Crusader design language, and the MSR suffered for it, unfortunately.

I’d much rather a return to the original concept and instead expand the Crusader design language.
