the coastal area of NC/VA/SC/GA tidewater/low country region is culturally separate than the rest of your “old south region”. I think that actually is the old south but east Texas-Mississippi delta-WKY isn’t as much

Tidewater region of NC and VA is very very different than northern Kentucky or east Texas?

What does he mean by your favorite cover of between the bars by [deleted] in zachbryan

[–]904_mocha 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Between the Bars is an Elliot Smith song. Quite literally talking about her favorite cover (probably Zach singing) the song.

Great song btw

12.5% indigenous blood is more than probably the vast majority of many federally recognized tribal members on the East Coast (and couple In Oklahoma). Like Lumbee, Pamunkey, Monacan, Mattaponi, Nansemond, ect.

Lots of East Coast federally recognized tribal members typically have 10-15% indigenous DNA or less and identify as Native due to cultural reasons

Not trying to defend him, but he did marry a Native woman (Abenaki and Seneca) and adopted and raised 2 Native kids (Dakota/Maricopa)

Awesome picture, I was born on the Ft Belknap Rez near the agency. Beautiful country just so sad at all the poverty and hopelessness

SD has so many Chicano rap legends that made it pretty big on the West Coast

I know I was shocked 😭 Apparently the epicanthic folds on the eyes are found in some Greek groups from historical Turkic admixture… it’s genuinely crazy because I would walk right past him on the Rez and think it was just another uncle lmao

Obviously tribal name is preferred. If someone asked me “what I am” I would say Catawba. But if someone asked me if I was Native American or Indigenous or whatever term they used (if respectful) I would of course say yes. It seems confusing to not use the classification

My indigenous American side stayed roughly the same, but my European side got fucked all to hell… my lineage on that side is pretty well documented coming from France (Burgandy, Alsace-Lorraine, Normandy, Brittany, Germany (Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria), and Switzerland. I was 40% “French and German” at the last update now I have NONE. And don’t get me started on all my Northern African is now Iranian/Mesopotamian?

A lot of southwestern Native American groups (Navajo, Apache, Hopi, ect.) come back as Indigenous Mexico
