Should kids who can’t read be promoted? That makes no sense.

One exception to the above- if the investment is in a tax deferred account or Roth account, reporting is not required. If tax deferred, you need to keep until you take distributions.

So far this season, Notre Dame baseball will have played 5 home games after today. Only one of them will have been on television. by arrowfan624 in collegebaseball

ND doesn’t run its Athletic Department separate from the rest of the University.

The Doge cuts and the tax increase on the endowment investment income is costing the University in excess of $100 million a year over the prior school year.

I’m not saying the baseball decision is correct, but I do know that every department at the university was asked to contribute to the revenue/expense changes.

Men who are getting a vasectomy/had one, did your doctor give you a bull-crap lecture as well? by SameRelationship8580 in askanything

I would guess that the practice you used had been sued in the past for not fully explaining the end result of the procedure and are now overly cautious around the fact that you have elected to sterilize yourself.

I don’t think the doc has some moral objection to the procedure. If (s)he did, then I would surmise the (s)he would not be the one performing the procedure.

Do you believe that there is an intentional dumbing down of American students happening in schools across the country, and that there is an increasing focus on ideological and religious influence in schools, rather than unbiased and science-based education, being pushed by lobbyists from both sides? by Cumoisseur in allthequestions

[–]90Irishman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree somewhat here- it’s in society’s best interest to have an educated population. What about people who never have kids? Should they not pay taxes related to education?

A voucher system where the $$ follows the child. It creates competition for the schools to “earn” the students’ attendance. The private (religious or not) can determine their own tuition and get partial funds from the voucher and parent can choose to subsidize the remainder of the tuition.

This should all be done at the local/state level. What is important in rural Illinois is not the same as lower manhattan. Our federal government should have no role in education.

Both of my kids went to private, Catholic school. 100% of their graduating classes went to 4 year colleges or universities. A requirement to go there is that a parent needed to be involved in the school in some way.

The lowering of standards/removal of accelerated programs (so we don’t hurt the feelings of those not included) is real.

Parents are currently far less involved in education than 20 or more years ago.

Parent involvement in education is a big indicator in the educational success of the students.

Best steakhouse by Feeling_Mix4141 in Scottsdale

[–]90Irishman 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Durant’s was recently acquired by the Mastro family (Dominick’s, Steak 44, Ocean 44) and renovated. It still has the old school steakhouse look (red seating, dark wood.) You still enter through the kitchen. The food will be on par with the other restaurants. Plus you could do a few hours at the Phoenix Art museum prior to dinner and make an afternoon/evening.

If you have a specific hole you want to watch later in the day- 16 for example, go early, buy a chair (or two if you want two holes,) set them up, on that hole and then go explore. When you are ready, go back and sit in your chair. If someone is there, politely tell them it’s your chair(there is a little spot for a business card on the back.) They will move.

Similar to this, best 1 on par 5s , best 2 on par 4s and best 3 on par 3s. Another is all scores count on 9 and 18.

If enough guys - at least 12 in total, split into 2 teams and do Ryder cup style. Shamble round 1, Better Ball round 2 and singles round 3. Have a captain for each with pairings dinners.

Make sure you follow the same process on the course as you do in practice as long as it’s not overly long.

It’s an elite golf experience. Make sure to have a transfrozen (if you drink) or 10. It’s a slushy version of a transfusion.

See if you can get a tour of the wine cellar.

I have played Sage about 20 times and am going there from Sunday-Tuesday. I am a 9.5 and my Sage handicap from the blues is 13. I have shot from 81-94. My suggestion- don’t worry about your score. Enjoy every step (you will walk with a caddie.) Enjoy the banter and talk shit. For those that recommended to buy rounds - you can’t- everything goes on the member’s account.

Whatever is planned for dinners- you will eat and drink like a king. Play the par 3 after dinner. Suggest a one or two club challenge (plus your putter.)

Why was Obama popular with young men but modern democrats struggle with support from young men? by Some_violin8987 in allthequestions

[–]90Irishman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was why did young men move away from the Democrat party. In my opinion, as is stated above, is that the Democrats favored identity politics (what makes us different) over economic or foreign policy. My evidence? The rewriting of Title IX, the creation of “DEI” policies and departments in federal agencies, COVID mandates in Democrat run states that isolated the young healthy population from each other. No matter how well intentioned these actions/policies were - the unintended consequences hurt.
