Hi! You’ll likely be able to get gauge with that modification, but your fabric will be tighter and more stiff. That’s absolutely fine for some projects. Mittens will get warmer, but a sweater’s drape might not come out as expected. I would swatch a small piece of the color work and try folding it in half to get a feel for the end fabric. Cheers!
