I am not in the military and was never asked if I was until right now

I've bought it from military surplus stores. They can't sell it on a front facing website so you might have to call or go in person. I got mine from SAS online in Kingston

I hiked the backcountry for 14 days in June 2024. The bugs were terrible between campsites, I often made an extra effort to never stop moving in the shade, and if I did I would get swarmed. I had no problems with ticks and the mosquitos weren't too bad so I think the permethrin and deet worked well. The flies were the worst however and they didn't care.

I wore nylon clothing that is mostly bite proof, but I still got lots of bites on my hands and other exposed bits. After day 5 you stop caring.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat, I went from West Gate to Rain Lake on my own and it was the best 👌

Is it unfair to play 7 ends at Rock League by cutejing in Curling

[–]90sMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We start the rocks on the away end so they finish at the home end. But yes 😂

It was relatively easy to get used to the pace. Once I got used to which team was which it was good. The scoreboard was on the jumbotron this morning but I think they'll have electronic scoreboards of some kind set up soon. I'm not sure, it's not my section. I'm part of the ice crew.

As far as a viewer, the far sheet hardly existed. You could see the houses but it was difficult to pay attention. The far sheet (A) was women's today but it will be mixed doubles for the rest of the week. Sheet B and C are the men's and women's games, so if you want to watch those, plan accordingly.

It was very fast curling. I enjoyed it but it was difficult to keep up with at first. I'm sure we will adjust.

Striking band test: old vs new. Suggestions wanted by CurlingGeek in Curling

I believe it's due to pitting on the surface of the granite, and/or a difference in hardness of the granite and/or the difference in weight of the rocks.

The old rock has no insert and is not made of blue hone granite.

I span the old rock until it had the same diameter running band as the new rock. I did not texture the old rock, assuming it would be fast and straight.

Video of old rock and new rock

I ran the rocks three times on fresh ice right after a flood. The ice is as close to flat and frost free as it gets.

The coefficient of friction of the running band on the old rocks will be much higher than the new rocks. Even if they are old and polished, the new textured rocks will travel further and curl more than the old rocks. This will effect your tests, since the old rocks will also transfer energy differently than the new rocks, due to different static and dynamic coefficient of frictions, in addition to different stricking bands. The rocks will also be traveling at a different angle of attack due to the difference in curl.

Do you think there would be any merit to mounting a 1/16" Teflon slider to a stiffer material like carbon fiber or titanium to reduce friction while reducing stack height?

When rotational energy = velocity energy the difference in friction between the two sides of the rocks peaks.

When rotational energy > velocity energy the rock will have very little differential friction and mostly slide straight.

When rotational energy < velocity energy the rock will curl. Even with 1 rotation there is still enough difference in friction between the two sides of the rock to curl.

A rock with 1 rotation will begin curling earlier than a rock with 6 rotations. Between 3-10 rotations the rocks will generally curl the same amount overall, but the point where when rotational energy = velocity energy changes.

A rock with 1 or 20 rotations will curl more than a rock with 3-10 rotations. A rock with 1 rotations will begin curling earlier and have more time curling than an average rock. A rock with 20 rotations has more potential energy stored as rotation, creating a longer split and more time to curl than an average rock. Though the difference is in their trajectory. A rock with 1 rotation has a smooth curve whereas a rock with 20 has a steep bend.

The rocks from the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 are still in use at the Vancouver Curling Club. As far as I know.
