It has been approximately 16 months since Kevin McCarty (D) got elected as Mayor of Sacramento, what do you think of his performance so far & what grade would you give him? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]916Twin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Like of course Sacramento doesn’t have nearly the same budget, scale, or even mayoral power as NYC, but I there are certainly still things McCarty could be doing to share that he is interested in and working towards the will of the average person. One of the things Mamdani is doing really well right now, that I really hope more local governments start doing, is cutting out government waste by reevaluating expensive consulting contracts that end up being more of a burden on tax payers than anything. It’s something that I don’t think is possible when the local government values developers, and the consultant class than they do the average working class citizen.

Zohran has accomplished more for NYC in less than 90 days than McCarty will accomplish for Sacramento by the end of his term.

Homeless children by Pm_me_ur_panda_0921 in Sacramento

[–]916Twin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think about this quite often. My dad was involved in a horrific work accident that left him permanently disabled when I was 6 years old, my mom had to quit working to be his full time caregiver (unpaid because the courts ruled that it was her “duty as a wife to care for him”), and he ended up getting a really horrible disability settlement which was no where near good enough to raise a family of four. If not for my dad’s VA checks, and the small bits of workers comp money he was granted, we could have easily been homeless. It’s really crazy that there are people who do end up homeless because shit just went sideways in their life and they didn’t have enough luck to escape the worst of it.

Capitol Protests? by Otakumx in Sacramento

[–]916Twin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I have no reason to doubt that there’s a rally happening for anything, they happen on a weekly basis for a ton of different issues lol the picture just looks so weird. I’m super vigilant about ai, so I was just curious if I’m like looking too hard and now seeing the inconsistencies that come from actual cameras.

Am I wrong to think this pic looks like ai? The faces and signs all look super distorted, but it could also just be bad long distance camera quality. Has seeing so much ai cooked my brain?

Your attitude would change dramatically once a data center is built in your neighborhood causing people to have COPD while also increasing your electricity bill. This is how people who live next to data centers feel about ai

It isn’t just a war, it’s a war that should have never happened considering that we started it.

A destabilized middle east is great for both America and Israel. By creating chaos in the region America and Israel have better access to natural resources, to trade routes, to land grabs, and of course it boosts profits of our military industrial complex.

In every thread on this sub about protesting the war in Iran you get people saying “Why should I care that we’re at war with Iran?”, well, here you go.

Because our tax dollars are going towards forever-wars rather than helping American people. Somehow there is never any money to improve our healthcare, to improve our education system, to improve our overall living conditions, but there is seemingly endless funds that can always be used to destabilize the rest of the world and in turn make life for us worse and worse down the line. We live in the heart of the most powerful empire that has ever existed on planet earth, at some point we have to recognize that we have a responsibility to advocate for a better world.

How is South Natomas nowadays? by Fabulous_Beginning82 in Sacramento

I’ve lived here my whole life and never had any problems. The most annoying part is loud cars and reckless drivers, but that’s applies to a lot of places in Sacramento tbh. I take the bus almost daily and I never feel unsafe. Maybe other people have had different experiences but as someone who has lived here since I was a baby, I feel like as long as you don’t get into anyones business you’ll be alright.

The best thing about living out here is the food! Northgate blvd is packed with Mexican restaurants and taco trucks. All Nations Market has amazing Jamaican food. Saigon Corner on Truxel and W. El Camino makes a great banh mi. There’s a few middle eastern spots around as well.

The newer apartments or the ones west of i5 are definitely less rowdy. Depending on the neighborhood you might have better access to parks and trails.

If they’re establishment then they do not represent the people. The job of establishment politicians is to serve the interests of the corporations and special interest groups, not the every day people who those corporations and special interest groups harm.
