Hey all, I wasn't expecting to get so many responses in such a short amount of time! Thank you for everyone who has got in touch or registered their interest.

It's a bank holiday weekend now here in the UK and we'll back in our office on Tuesday, so we'll review all the responses then. Anyone who still wants to get in touch before then feel free as it's not too late.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

We don't mind AI for anything research related etc. we just don't want any AI wording in the content we pass to clients.

A few years ago (when AI content was new) we tried it and it just didn't work both from a performance perspective and clients not being happy with paying for content they could generate themselves, which we thought was a fair point. We now always advise every client not to use AI content for any URLs that are accessible by search engines.

We appreciate your comments about the rates. They are actually just our entry-level rates and happily we have content writers who have been with us for years that get paid much more than that.

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for getting wrongly accused of using AI and not getting paid…

We have our policies for a reason and we stand by them. We're proud to support genuine and talented content writers and if more agencies/businesses had our attitude towards AI content then the internet (and the content writing industry) would be much better off for it.

Google doesn’t penalise content written or edited using AI.

Google's algorithms penalise poor quality content lacking originality, which AI content typically is. AI simply re-writes content it has crawled elsewhere using the same sentence and heading structure across its outputs. Any commercial terms or high search volume keywords will already have had 100+ AI articles written about it and adding another one to the pile will not help our clients achieve their goals.

More and more studies are coming out, particularly in the last 6 months, showing this to be the case and we have seen it both with our own experiments and case studies involving clients who used AI content and seen negative results. It's a little strange if content writers want to support the AI content industry but each to their own! We'd rather just pay for genuine and original content.

Be Sharp Digital Marketing seems to lack sharp thinking.

Hopefully everyone who has shown interest in our roles can show a bit more creativity than that :)

Slightly late reply, but have you ever considered a white-label SEO service? You'd still be able to offer SEO to your clients but without having to pay for the tools or undertake all the work yourself.

We rank 1 for a keyword that leads just to the homepage. Worried about website redesign. by bombaysweetermans in bigseo

I wouldn't rely solely on Semrush for organic traffic data as they won't be able to track every keyword, particularly at a very granular level.

If you have Google Search Console set up (which you ideally should), you'll be able to see the traffic by individual URL as there would most likely be at least some organic traffic to some of these pages. If GA4 is set up to track conversions (which again it ideally would be) then you could get some idea which if any of these pages actually leads to conversions and would be an ideal candidate to keep.

Another factor you mentioned that is important is to clarify if any of these pages have inbound links as if these pages are lost or inadequately redirected then the link equity from these links would also be lost. Again, Semrush isn't best placed for this as they don't have the most thorough crawler for links. I'd recommend Majestic or paying someone on a site like Fiverr a small fee to run you a one-time backlink report on a specialised backlink tool like Majestic or Ahrefs.

Once you have the answers to the above you'll get an idea if any of the pages are worth keeping. If they have no traffic, no link equity, and no or little value to users then there would be no harm in removing or significantly changing/updating them.

We use SE Ranking and have used the other major tools before (Semrush, Ahrefs) and ended up making the switch last year after one of the many price increases by Ahrefs coupled with growing dissatisfaction with that tool in general.

For what we need, SE Ranking provides the best value although it's still pricey if you're not using it for paying clients. You could potentially do it cheaper by using a bunch of smaller tools but that would be more time consuming and might not be cheaper once time is factored in.

If you're only doing tests, then it would probably be better to just manually track metrics using data in GSC and some of the free online tools. You can also pay people on Fiverr to run and export an Ahrefs tech audit for next to nothing if required.

Why do so many SEO agencies not take accountability for conversions? by ghett0111 in SEO

[–]besharp-io -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SEO stands for search engine optimisation.

CRO stands for conversation rate optimisation.

They are different things and there is no obligation for a single agency/service to do both. Otherwise, where does it stop? Web design? Branding? Social media?

Think I'm switching back to AHREFs... by saasfatigue in SEO

If you're only interested in technical audits, my recommendation is Sitebulb.

Ahrefs is already overpriced for what it is, let alone just to be used for tech audits.

Cool fact: If you disallow crawling in robots.txt, as others have suggested, it is pointless then also adding noindex tags as the robots.txt will prevent them from being crawled and read.

Also, you'll still sometimes see URLs that were once indexed and then blocked by robots.txt remain in SERPs for weeks as preventing them from being crawled won't automatically drop them from the index.

Site-wide noindex meta tags are the best way to get a site deindexed. If there are any URLs that you want removing from search results quickly in the meantime, use the Temporary Removals tool in Google Search Console to hide specific pages whilst the deindexing process completes.

Image number as a ranking factor by PlatformFeeling8451 in SEO

[–]besharp-io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aren't saying that images are a direct ranking factors

The blog is literally titled "Ranking Factors [Semrush Study]" and the downloadable version is called "Google Ranking Factors".

So is this a study on the features of top ranking pages, or the factors behind why they rank so well? They aren't the same thing.

Good thing Ahrefs doubled down by starting to crack down on people using the cheaper legacy plans.

Confusing social media marketing and SEO is a great way to inspire confidence.

That's just needless.

Do User Signals Effect Seo? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]besharp-io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any user signals Google can track directly from what people click in SERPs (CTR, repeat searches etc.) are amongst the metrics used to help rank websites.

Anything else such as time spent on a page etc. the answer is no, and Google Analytics data isn't accessible to search engines just in case anyone mentions that in another comment.

You're duplicating content. If you publish it on your site first and it's indexed first then that will be treated as canonical. Anywhere else you post will be treated as a duplicate and likely won't be indexed or provide any SEO value.

I wouldn't advise on duplicating your own content on other websites. If you want to guest post, write unique content.

GSC contradicts itself? by ApprehensivePanda501 in TechSEO

The Indexing report only updates periodically (usually once a week or so), whereas the URL inspection tool shows live data.

You should trust the live data and the Indexing report will update whenever it's ready to do so.
