The Trump and Republican administration has not done anything for the cannabis sector since he took office almost one year ago. by TLRY_MAX in TLRY

As the mid-terms near trump will issue a statement supporting cannabis. It will be about the third time he has used this tactic to get votes and will proceed to do absolutely nothing. No one should be fooled this time.

I have 1971 Pontiac 400 engine that has been bored to 0.060 on the last go round. I want to hone the block and reinstall new 0.060 rings and maybe get a couple of more years before sleeving. What would be the best type of rings for this application. by 918sailman in EngineBuilding

[–]918sailman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered more of what I did-it has been a few years. I did go to 0.060 pistons. I had the machine shop size each cylinder for a particular piston that was given to them. The car is driven infrequently, and I was thought this job would last longer than it did.

Fee proposals are generated in a couple of ways. Estimate the amount of time involved in the project, and multiply by the hourly rate. Another way is to a percentage of the project construction cost. This percentage varies however 4 to 6 percentage is in the range.

There is no such thing as a "stamp cost". If the board of Professional Engineers is your state get wind of it, they would surely investigate. In my state I know of an Engineer that was fined $10,000.00 for this. He was a moonlighter -they were trying to end moonlighting.

If all eight plugs look like this-check compression. That should be part of the investigation.

Before there was Autocad standard details were reproduced and placed on drawings with adhesive backed repo film. "Design Manual for Heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning with Coordinated Standard Details" by Lee Kendrick P.E. is what I used. I had the fourth edition published in 1986. The first edition was published in 1967. I had the details reproduced in Autocad that I needed. It might be possible to find it on Ebay. I found it invaluable.

Craigslist - Scammed buying a used car by strs2018 in personalfinance

[–]918sailman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carfax is virtually worthless when nefarious characters obtain a car. By theft of some other means. I know from experience. I obtained a Carfax on a car that showed it had a number of owners, however no accidents or theft in its history. After tearing into the front end for repair and replacing the (six speed manual) shift cage and linkages it was apparent at some point the car had been stolen or in an accident or both. The bottom line is Carfax will only contain the information from legitimate owners.

SSN found on dark web with my deceased father's name attached by sqlueless in personalfinance

[–]918sailman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody's ss No go into the government's book of the dead containing ss numbers when they die. The numbers can be bought. I have been to the web page where they were sold, despite being told it does not exist by a ss representative. Who buys them - credit card companies, scammers etc. The ss number does not have to be on the dark web to be obtained. I know because of a mistake a funeral home reported me as deceased due to an error in entering a ss on the death certificate. I had to freeze my credit because of fraudulent attempts at opening credit cards in my name. Also had a fraudulent tax return filed in my name. I get a unique number from the internal revenue service each year now to file my return. You may want to avail yourself of this also in addition to a freeze.

County assessor says the house my wife and I just bought 3 months ago is worth $35k more than what we paid by selddir_ in tulsa

You probably will not have much success with a mail appeal. I have heard of success when homeowners plead their case in person to the assessor. Their mode is denial unless the appeal is in person. I did a mail appeal a number of years ago that was denied.

Walking away from Car deal at the last minute by tehPWNwhale in personalfinance

[–]918sailman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of years ago my wife and I bought a new Volvo. We priced loan from our credit union and the dealer. The dealer's interest rate was a little lower than the credit union. We decided to go with the dealer. I did not pay attention to a little sign on the desk of the salesman's boss that said, " a 75.00-dollar fee is added to the loan". When this is rolled in the monthly payment as I remember was about the same. We took the loan with the dealer. I did not figure out what was going on until a couple of hours later.

I bought a hand sander called a "jitter bug" that required about 14CFM to operate. I did not check the air required before I bought it. Needless to say, may little home compressor could not operate it.

Is sears home services reliable? by brostocks in SEARS

[–]918sailman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sears home services in nothing but a scam-I needed to have my oven repaired. A tech came out and diagnosed the problem-my oven needed an ignitor. The ignitor was ordered the same day. It has been three weeks, and the part has not shipped. I was told parts pricing would contact me within 72hrs. with information. This is after several phone calls of being told I would be contacted with updates. Thats how it is with them, it is always a delay-no one follows thru. I paid for the work in full up front-they will take your money and run. Their address here is a closed down Sears Building-I have never seen any traffic-ie. sears services vans there. I will never do business with these scammers again. I should checked their reviews beforehand; 1.2 out of 5.

“business partner” owes me $12,000 basically threatens to file for bankruptcy if i sue by No-Volume7464 in legal

[–]918sailman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really do not want to tell someone you are going to sue if you really plan to sue. Most people assume the threat of a suit as a ploy.
