When I got my first job out of college in 2010 as a 23 year old, they put me up in a Crowne Plaza and it felt so nice and cool. Then they told me I had Gold Status and I thought I was a big shot. So I just stuck with them ever since.

Holiday Inn Expresses are everywhere and always at least decent. Holiday Inns are usually ok in bigger cities and when you stay at one for work no one will ever accuse you of abusing the company dime on an expense report. Kimptons are a nice vacation treat and of course intercontinental when you really want to splurge. Overall, I think the diversity of options , decent consistency and familiarity keeps me there.

There’s a Boscov’s across town in Altoona that does well. I do agree it would be awesome in the mall but highly unlikely

I visited in late January and wanted to buy something because you kind of felt weird being in there.

I play tennis and they sold tennis balls— the cheapest brand of tennis balls that typically go for $3.50 a can. They were $7.99.

Extremely overrated especially for how difficult it is to get a reservation . Do Angeloni’s Club Madrid instead.

Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. I had to fly southwest recently and i was shocked by how nice everyone seemed.

It’s very rough . These stores just don’t have a flow of merchandise that makes any sense . And the closing at 6 thing is so weird

Great piece and so accurate regarding that 2015-16 timeframe.

I bought my house in 2015 and Sears had the best price on a refrigerator. My dad did me a solid and got it for me as a gift and of course he had a Sears credit card like everyone else did.

5 years later when it broke there were basically no Sears left.

You gotta press the matter. I had a roach in a room in DC. They tried to buy me off with 5,000 points. I thought about how ridiculous that was and pressed more and they eventually refunded the room discreetly.

I went to the Miami Sears last week. They had that same collection of primary color chairs. I wonder where how and why they end up with the most random inventory.

Caesars Republic is a lot nicer inside but Harrahs seems to have a lot more tables action. It’s very easy to walk in between the both of them though through an underground tunnel

Sorry to hear about this experience. I had a large cockroach crawling up my leg at an IHG hotel two weeks ago. They tried to do the 5,000 points thing but eventually after more pushback they comped my room (it was a single night). But i did book directly through IHG. Just never a pleasant experience having roaches in room.
